      It's a habit that alot of older firefighters have , they don't wear hoods so the can feel the heat on their ears so when their ears start to burn its time to get out of the building.

      This is BFD making a (great) training video. There is a 55 gallon drum burning with class A material in it. The smoke is made from a machine, Its not hot, nor is it toxic. In this context you don't need a hood. As much fire as BFD sees they know when to wear a hood.

    Damn, look at those helmets. They've seen some fucken use!

    • @NguageTrains
      @NguageTrains 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They certainly have, but now they are cracking down on helmets being that worn out just because if something hits you in the head it’s already beat to shit and has no strength. They’ll either give you a new one, if your helmet can be fixed they’ll let you send it to the many leather helmet repair business throughout the country or you can find a older leather in good shape either on eBay or at a firematic flea market

    Holy Crap. this is all confusing. i always wondered why BFD has a 5 month academy. i can see why

    • @kvpc11
      @kvpc11 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Kevin Mendes We have a 5 month academy because the last month and a half or so is EMT certification. It is 16 weeks of training for firefighter I and II certs and also BFD specific stuff.

    Hoods???

  • @tewksburydriver8624
    @tewksburydriver8624 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I can't get past the fact that nobody is wearing a nomex hood. This might be good quality training, but step one is gearing up properly, and BFD failed to do that. Sorry brothers, just calling it like it is. I understand tradition and old habits, but hoods are nothing new, and are a critical part of our gear.
