Hopefully i can add some features in the future! The reason for the sliding and getting stuck is that the game is programed that at 24.5 degrees, the player begins to slide due to the list (It was reported that as the bridge went under, people could no longer traverse the decks). I would also keep a eye out for the bridge doors as they do open up during the sinking! Also if anyone is curious on the fine details of this animation, make sure to read the companion document. Includes a detailed explanation of each lifeboat, the ships trim and heel, the second explosion and the wreck. Also i dont remember programming VR into it (tired it a few times but could never get anything presentable working), so it might be interesting to see if it works. Oh and yes this is in real-time from the initial impact with the torpedo.

Problem is if they launched a lifeboat, the lifeboat would flip over since the ship was still moving.

when lusitania sank (dont quote me on this) only 5 lifeboats were sucsesfully launched by crew members. scary thoughts but understandable since it sank in 18 minutes.
I think 6 were successfully launched, and one of them was swamped and capsized when they were in the water.

Some of the lifeboats were floated off and some fell into the sea when they were overloaded during launch. So there were some other lifeboats floating around but they were not launched properly.

The Lusitania had GORGEOUS interiors, maybe one day someone will recreate them in video game form like Honor and Glory have with Titanic
In a way I find this more terrifying than the titanic. People were taken by surprise, and had no time to think, or acknowledge what was happening, The passengers passed from a nice, calming luncheon to the cold atlantic waters in less than 20 minutes, testifying not only the death of a great liner, but also the death of 1198 inocent people

Here's a little Lusitania fact: I recently read in a book that although it seemed quite real that the second explosion was caused by the ammunition, there is another explanation. A undersea explorer, Robert Ballard, dove to the wreck of the Lusitania in 1993, he came up with the theory that empty coal bunkers let coal dust to mix with the air, creating a explosive aerosol mixture. When the fire from the torpedo explosion reached the coal bunkers, it set off the second explosion. If your interested in the book, it's called Disasters At Sea: A Visual History Of Infamous Shipwrecks by Liz Mechem and is an excellent book (featuring many of the most well known shipwrecks across the world). It's an amazing book, I ordered it off Amazon and I have learned a lot of maritime history from it, I would consider checking it out if you have time! Once again, great video, Spammals! She was basically a American ship but owned by Cunard line. The Lusitania sank just in 18 minutes, she had a very big list Which was a very big problem, her port side lifeboats crushed the waiting passengers on the port side and her starboard lifeboats swung out 8 feet from the railing so the people on board were doom. # my favourite room onboard is the 3 class dinning room cause it was even luxurious than Titanic's. Fantastic video man. As a child Titanic got me hooked then I started looking into all the other liner disasters and Lusitania is probably the second most well known of them. Her story is every bit as fascinating as Titanic’s IMO. And she DID go down that fast. Anywhere between 15-18 minutes from the first explosion to the last tip of her masts going under. This video is most interesting to me from the vantage point of being able to see it as it happened after reading about it all these years. What the video is obviously missing is the sheer mass of panicking people that must have clogged her upper decks. A particularly disturbing story is of the full lifeboat from towards port side aft that swung inward due to the list and broke away from the davit sliding all the way forward down the boat deck crushing innumerable people before hitting the port bridge wing and breaking apart killing everyone on board. Or the people stuck inside the elevators that were trapped and drowned when the power went out. It’s so different from Titanic because at least those people had time to react.

The aft tower if you will, was for Second class, then separated by the mast, the main one with the bridge was for First class, and Third class did not get any open deck space, they only got a little but of the lower promenade deck. the poopy deck was for the Second class as well.

Nice to see you do a video on a subject that you’ve never done before! It is sad that ships such as the Lusitania and Britannic don’t get enough attention like Titanic does. These were real people who lived real lives.
Commenting on this video again, I actually have a connection to the Lusitania, my great great great uncle on my mother's side was commander of U-20 at the time and he gave the order to fire at the ship. I actually have no idea about pretty much most the details, I was originally led to believe he was a grandfather by my sister, but years late I was told by someone who knows more than my sister (my mother) that he was an uncle, I wish I could get more details but the person who could tell passed away in 2017.

I can decide if I like the stern of the Lusitania or not. It’s as you say extremely compact, but that in my opinion gives it some character in a way. I definitely share your view on White Star ships.
Things just dont seem logical to me. I think thats 2nd class we can see from the 1st class veranda cafe. 1st class have no aft view, but have 2nd class looking into them. There's so much clutter, so many vents, motors. Its a mess! It sure isnt an Olympic Class Liner :P
@@Spammals Cunard seemed to have learned their lesson and took some cues from the Olympic class when it came time to design the Aquitania. One of the most beautiful liners ever built, IMO.

Watching a grand liner like the Lusitania get murdered is never easy. It's so fascinating how a ship as large as that sank so fast. Maybe my memory deceives me, but I thought the ship rolled over more than what this experience depicted. I also thought the bow struck bottom before the stern submerged beneath the surface similar to what happened with Britannic. That solemn piano music sure gets me right in the feels. This sounded like the same music you had in your video of the Titanic distress messages. As I watched that video, and now hearing the music again, it gets me thinking about if only Lusitania had been in the area (even being as far away as Carpathia). Since she was a Blue Riband holder she could have been there pretty quick. I guess it's pointless to think about such things, but I do. lol

Many boats flipped over and scraped the hull on the port side due to the list. On the starboard side, many boats were launched (relatively speaking) and some flipped over due to how fast the ship was sinking, frantic crew members, and overcrowding on the boats themselves. It was really a sad day in history.

it was 5 months of work for me to build this model on a very weak computer, so weak that I can not even play this game. But even with all the errors, I'm still very proud of the result. itstilltinking is someone with a lot of talent and effort! I hope other great works come to the fore!

It has been comfirmed that she was carrying munitions, but it is unknown of what kind. What is known and listed in the manifest is 3 million rounds of 303s, which is in cubes where the crates rotted around them. Thank you for uploading this, the Lusitania story has always touched my heart
The Lusitania was confirmed to have explosives aboard on the Shipwreck they found explosive casings
However no munition could sink a ship that fast. Also the smoke coming out of the vents could only have been from the boilers. It's more likely the boilers exploded on contact with the water.

I do know that some time in the 40s, the Royal Navy dropped depth charges on her as part of a "training exercise", because in the 30 years after her sinking, public interest was becoming super high. I personally do believe she was carrying munitions, or in the least that the Germans thought she did because other British ocean liners had been sunken for carrying munitions.
She was carrying munitions. The current owner of the wreck has recovered .303 British ammunition and is currently searching to see if there is any other types of munitions.

My great great grandfather John Wigham Richardson of Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson based in wallsend, Tyne & Wear, England was part of the design committee who helped with the design of the Lusitania and his company alongside Swan Hunter was the lead build team of the RMS Mauritania just a small but honoured piece of my family history in two very famous ships. Thank you for doing these videos I always watch them I didn’t even know this was about it’s very humbling seeing this thank you

As an Irishman the Lusitania is a tragedy in our past, especially with the people who live in the coastal areas that were so close to her, the sinking played a huge part in getting more Irish men to join to fight for a monarch they hated against an enemy they hated more, it had the same effect on the Americans as many onboard were from America. My screensaver on the phone I'm watching this on is actually a WW1 recruitment poster that's captioned, "Irishmen, avenge the Lusitania, join an Irish regiment today" with an artist's painting of the ship sinking. It just shows the horror these sinkings of these great ships caused.

Good call taking lifeboat number 1, it was cut away from ship by two crewmen.
Only 6 (7 if you count boat number 14 which was swamp because like Titanic’s boat number 7 the drain plug wasn’t in, and unlike Titanic they didn’t plug the hole.) of the 46 life boats were successfully launched. Most of the collapsibles floated off and almost all the port side boats they tried to launch swung in.
Ok, so i read a book on the Lusitania called ROBERT BALLARD’S LUSITANIA and they talk about the second explosion extensively. So apparently, the Lusitania was carrying 4,200 cases of .303 caliber rifle ammunition bought from the Remington company. However, they were legal cargo. Interestingly enough, officials had conducted tests before the war, subjecting boxes of ammunition to open fires and the like, all without serious consequences. The torpedo hit at about the bridge, close to where the britannic would be hit with a mine some time later. The torpedo hits one of lusitania’s coal bunkers, the one adjacent to her magazine. After the voyage to New York, the Lusitania is running low on coal, and her bunkers are filled with more coal dust than actual bituminous coal, a highly combustable type of coal, the kind the Lusitania carried. At this point the torpedo slams into the side of the ship and explodes, shaking the whole ship, force feeding the coal dust with oxygen, and at some point a spark ignites this mixture, causing the massive second explosion the doomed the ship. It is no wonder that loads of coal are strewn about the wreck site, and this would support that theory. (Information paraphrased from ROBERT BALLARD’S LUSITANIA)

The Lusitania was confirmed to have military supplies on it, which made it a viable Target for the German U-Boat Fleet. It was torpedoed and sank off the coast of Ireland but was not headed to Ireland. It was sailing from New York to Liverpool England
Wasn't lusitania used for target practice for the navy? That's why theres a cover up controversy about the munitions theory. And hence why there's literally nothing left of it?

I don't believe it was ever confirmed whether or not Lucy was carrying munitions, but the torpedo struck way aft of the cargo holds. Probable second explosion cause was related to the boilers or the steam pipes.

Iirc only 6 boats made it off the Lusitania intact and upright. The reason was the list and the fact that most of the actual lifeboat crew were trapped below, so the deckhands who had no clue what they were doing had to do it,
That scary noise was the Lusitania yelling at you to get on a lifeboat because the Lusitania wants you to get on one

According to the ship's own manifest, she was carrying rifle ammunition and artillery fuses. The British government systematically denies she was carrying any explosives, but has warned divers to be careful "should any be found."
The wreck was also heavily depth-charged during WWII, which, combined with the current, likely contributed to the poor condition of the wreck today.
(This is of course used as "evidence" of a cover-up, trying to bury or destroy any evidence of munitions)
When the ship listed over and sank Captain Turner was washed off the bridge wing.
I believe he was pulled from the water by a lifeboat and survived? Not 100% sure.
He survived the war and was given command of SS Ivernia 1916 and that ship too was sunk by torpedos a year later.

I thought the LUSITANIA stern was rising up into the sky and turning on its side before sliding into the ocean surface as the ship was disappearing. This will forever be a sad history for the LUSITANIA of WORLD WAR 1 and the people of Ireland will always remember the ship that sunk on their southern coastline!
It shouldn't be to hard to make a real time Lusitania sinking, considering that she was lost in only 18 minutes. As for books about Lusitania, I *STRONGLY* suggest looking up "Dead Wake" by Erik Larson - covering her final voyage and the surrounding events - and "Lusitania: An Illustrated Biogrophy" by J. Kent Layton, co-other of On A Sea Of Glass about Titanic, and Into the Danger Zone, about WWI Atlantic crossings.

I have a theory that says the lifeboats was launched 5 minutes before its sinking its about 13 minutes after the torpedo hits. Because the captain delayed the launched of lifeboat. But it just my theory.

I also heard that the propellers we're still turning, which drove her forward and down also.
She went very quickly.. power went out and trapped people in the elevators... Can you imagine that.. like a rat drowned in a cage .
