    I worked in F1 for Anthony Marsh from 1976 - 1982. Great times, I was just 16 years old when I started.

    It always puts a big smile on my face, if a previously unknown piece of F1 live TV coverage from the 1970's or even earlier appeares on youtube. Many thanks for sharing it!

      Thanks. An email address please. Last night (Sunday 8pm local) BBC ran a tribute to Stirling Moss, who drove everything. Hamilton is good but commerical and Clark was equal to Moss.

    Beautiful interview at the end, a reminder that, contrary to many views, Jochen was a gentleman when treated with respect.

      Rindt had a bunch of bad press early in his career, mostly from the staid British F1 community (Think: Dennis Jenkinson) who made a point of disparaging his fearless antics. That he came to master the sport in his short career tells you all you need to know about this remarkable figure from F1 history. Managing to throw the Lotus 49 through a full 4 wheel power drift in every single corner of the Monaco circuit for the last 30 some laps of the race should also tell you something.........

    Great interview with a cheerful Jochen after the race. Never seen this before. Thanks so much for the upload! Also very sad and shocking if you think that his tragic death in practice at Monza is only 4 months away.

      Sad to say I was also at Monza on that Saturday having driven his new Elan from Hethel. malcolm@ginsberg.co.uk

    Even with the relatively dark/contrasty footage here, the artistry of Rindt at full 10/10ths is on full display. Fantastic stuff, and thanks for posting this!

    Beautiful. I love the air takes along the unmatched seaboard part of the track. Anything else seems presumptious from a screenstander :). Many thanks. If I only could get over that Beltoise disgust.

    0:45 look at the mechanics just standing in the middle of the track waving their arms as the field goes by

    The starting field of this race is a stark reminder of what racing was like back then. 3 of the starters would die behind the wheel of a racing car within the next 6 months (Rindt, McLaren, Courage) and 2 more (Siffert, Rodriguez) would be gone in racing accidents by the end of 1971

    was there ever a better drive than this? I cannot think of one

      It was a masterpiece by Jochen Rindt. He took 11.5 seconds off in 10 rounds. He was more flying than driving. Victory well deserved.

    I love that they put the teams colors in the championship order even though the footage was black and white

    Wonderful piece, now if only someone would take the time and re-edit an XXL version in slightly better quality :-)

    Think there's only one thing missing from the end of this race; & that's Murray Walker commentating..

    Absolutely panicked Brabham off the road. That was a shocking error. One of the funniest mistakes in F1 history.

    Look how safe F1 was back then, people standing on the track, drivers having their car attended to on the straight, I mean what could go wrong?

    • @RJSRdg
      @RJSRdg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Drivers having their cars attended to on the straight was a contributory factor in the 1955 Le Mans crash, in which 89 spectators and Pierre Levegh were killed.

    Interesting that there's colour footage of the 1955 race, but 1970 is black & white....

    • @EricIrl
      @EricIrl 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The colour footage from 1955 would be shot on colour film. This is a recording of the live TV feed and would have been recorded directly on to video tape. Ironically , Monaco TV actually broadcast this race in colour but not every broadcaster retransmitted it in colour.
      This is the BBC’s recording of the race and it looks like they didn’t keep a colour version.

    Before they ruined it by including the swimming pool section and the Nouvelle Chicane...

    I'm sure Brabham threw the brakes on thinking he would side impact Hulme

    Fantastic to see this. I was there. I had been in Milano at the San Siro to watch the European Cup Final between Glasgow Celtic & Feynoord a few days before & on a whim got on the train to Monaco. An interesting back story to my adventuring. I stopped in Genoa for the connection to Monaco and whilst there I got talking to a very very attractive girl, if I remember correctly she was doing more of the ‘chatting up’. Ended up staying at hers for a couple of days & nights, turned out she was one of Italy’s infamous porn stars. So Italy not only produces some great race cars & drivers but sensational Girls as well. 😂
