I'm wondering if the owl flew into a window pane. It's a common and often fatal event for birds if they hit the glass at speed. They see the reflection of trees and sky in the glass, and think they're flying into open space.
Even when they do rip up their prey, they don't get anywhere near that bloody. Add to that how hunched, fluffy, and just generally awful looking that owl is, and you've got a bird on death's door. 😢
Crows do not have as much trouble with owls, they respect each other. On the other hand if this was a hawk, Kestrel or kite it would be very different out come, the crows would drive bomb it make the call and all corvids will protect there area and nests. If it was a big threat Magpies. Rook's, & Ravens will also help the cause. I've studied Crows for many years now and have wild pet crows i see daily i see them in there community. This was a polite warning to the owl to not to try anything as it is trespassing on Crows territory and if there was a fight there is 30 crows to one owl its a non contest (Hence the numbers of crows) and the owl showing no aggression at all.
Willing to confirm with anecdotal observation. There is an Owl that seems to nest near my house, in a major suburb of Seattle. The local crows pay no mind at all to his (or her) hoots. However, comma, I was out doing yardwork one day, and heard the shriek of a Hawk...

@@JenniferPChung Its quite easy to be honest, its the same with most animals humans must offer food and time really. One of mine likes to sit on my shoulder and perch on the park bench with me. This is very rare for a wild Crow to act like this as i have put the time in with her since she was kicked out her nest and grounded. My shoulder gets all muddy from her feet so i don't let her sit there for long or make a habit of it as she will do her toilet on me at some point, peck my ear and will just flying up on my shoulder from behind, and it really makes me jump if I don't see her coming. They are without a doubt the most amazing birds & friends, extremely clever and very autistic in nature, they do have mood swings but 85% of the time adorable and gentle. My little friend tries to speak, I've been repeating Hello Hello for about 2 years and she makes a strange noise back its very funny, but she is trying. I would say about 1in5 Crows may be a bit more brave/curious than the others. They remember people faces and posture, kindness also (Monkey nuts Crows love). Crows that nest in woods or Forrest are much harder to get near. If you went to a park or similar the crows are more used to humans and noise etc and a local park would have resident Crows, so the chances of reseing the same Crow again would greatly increase, unless you was walking with a dog. Make sure you get the Crows attention and throw one monkey nut on the ground below them and walk away. Crows are shy and very cautious birds until they feel safe. Keep looking back to wear the nut was thrown, after about 15-20 metres the Crow if a curious one should fly down just to be nosey as there survival skills are unrivalled. Repeat this method on a Crow that has taken the nut and before you know it that crow after time will remember you and fly down right next to you after a few months. Their family will also begin to turn up, Mum, Dad, Brother Sister, cousins etc as they will want in on the free nuts too. then they except you and will call you to get your attention for a monkey nut, try to be repetitive where you put the nuts and the call you use for the crows attention is important. I use a generic cat call like a ticking sound, you could whistle or use a little bell, just something different for a sound for the crow to associate the sound with you and a free tasty snack. My crows know my car and fly along side it when i turn into the road they are on. They can recognise me from just my walk and posture from over 150 metres away, I've tried disguise before, hat different coat etc they are far to clever lol. They are extremely entertaining birds and very misunderstood.

Agreed! A lot of the comments thought the owl was sick and/or hurt, but I actually think it was just relaxed and chillin' amongst the crows. And I think the crows were "testing" the owl to see if it could be scared (that might have triggered the crows to attack the owl), but I think the crows realized the owl was just comfortable being amongst them, and that's why they didn't peck at it in the least, because they were accepting of its presence.

Um, not at all. Quite the contrary. The owl sought out the crow's morning meeting spot for a reason. It is using the crows for protection against other predators. It doesn't look well. Either very old, or sick. But I understand how you could easily think that.

He had a spot of blood on his face like he ran into something like maybe a window or car. Birds do get poisoned as described but don't think that is the case here.

Even if he just cleaned up from a feast that is one weird spot to miss. If it was poisoning he wouldn't have felt well enough to just clean himself up. Long story short, there was an injured squirrel on the ground in my backyard. He wasn't long to be in this world. The crows soon noticed and they gathered around and had a big long squawk. It seemed like they were sending him off and he didn't die alone.
Crows are omnivores. They can survive off of plants, insects, and meat. Owls are carnivores only as are all birds of pretty, and sadly only 1% of birds of prey survive beyond the 1st year. Most fail to successfully hunt enough prey to survive and end up landing and never being able to take flight again and die a very slow agonizing death by starvation or being picked off by another predator. For this owl to be sitting out like this in the open so far outside of its normal hunting hours (dusk and dawn) means its desperate for food. It’s actually very sad.
This is very true. There is one exception. It could be a youngster (since i can see some feather development). Youngsters will explore around and out of the nest before they can fly (fledgling). Parents continue to keep an eye out on the bird to feed them from time to time as they learn.

The owl moved to a location with no room for other birds to roost. At about 1:47 it gets dive bombed without contact. It did get separation for a bit of time.
Back in the 80s i kept a great horned owl specifically for crow hunting. Judas was crow death. Unfortunately the local warden was closing in, so i set it free.
I'm not sure the crows are angry. They are very intelligent. Intelligent enough to know that the owl is interest in much bigger prey than themselves. They may be gathering around it for protection from bigger birds.
Barn owl is injured u can tell from its bloody face, crows know this and are waiting for a chance to attack and eat it. They do this with baby lambs and other animals as well. Ive even seen a crow eating an injured pigeon whilst it was still alive flapping around on the floor.
The owl will eat young crows if they are small enough. Crows don't like predatory birds and will gang up on them like this. Obviously they aren't going to pick a fight though. They just want it gone.

Also the eyeballs are locked. Humans can look quickley left and right for depth perception, Birds of Prey need to move heads to do the same trick.

From other videos I've seen Owls during the day. When they're attacked by other birds of prey they usually stay on ground level.

Been around birds too long. Some thing is off about this poor owl just by the way it is holding itself. Poor thing.
Crows are so social
Quite the hecklers crows are.
Barn owl is injured u can tell from its bloody face, crows know this and are waiting for a chance to attack and eat it. They do this with baby lambs and other animals as well. Ive even seen a crow eating an injured pigeon whilst it was still alive flapping around on the floor.

The owl will eat young crows if they are small enough. Crows don't like predatory birds and will gang up on them like this. Obviously they aren't going to pick a fight though. They just want it gone.
Actually, the owl sought out the crows for protection from other predators, as it is obviously not well, and no animal seeks out a potential predator when it is sick or injured.

No. Crows and owls are natural enemies. These crows are just there to bother the owl and they probably noticed that the owl doesn't look well

its a barn owl. not an eagle owl. one barn owl can't take on a whole mob of crows. plus it looks very lethargic for some reason
I suspect that the owl as been poisoned by eating poisoned mice ect😢😢

Despite the owl potentially injured, the crows want em out of their territory. The crows aren’t actively attacking, they’re trying to escort the owl out of the area. If they could speak human, they might as well be saying: Leave or FAFO.
That peaceful owl was just trying to rest, cause in the middle of the night it will retaliate, crows are no match for an owl, owls are intelligent, crows are a loquacious
