I have a 2018 2.0t q3 its been about 3 yrs since i bought it and no major problems yet and at 87k miles rn also running a couple of mods aswell pretty reliable
What mods you get?
what a joke… I am driving my Q3 Premium Plus (2nd generation, Quattro, AWD, fully packed) for almost 4 years and still in love with it! Perfect car for a single mom who likes to spent the weekend w/ kido at the mountains, moderate driving (sometimes aggressive) on the roads in San Francisco. No major issues occurred with the car so far, given almost 40K miles driven and regular maintenance. Folks, who posted negative comments here, are you sure u driving Q3???
Glad to hear its going well! They are great cars, these are just some of the more common issues we see.
40K miles it is still under warranty. I wouldn’t be expecting any problems.
Had to gey the single mum in there lmao no1 cares were just here to hear about the car and will not be taking the advice of a single mum because you have already made bad life choices 😂
i drive a q3 and have had it for a little over a year and its a piece of shit. idk if its because it was used but theres so many issues with it. speed wouldnt go over 20mph, got it fixed month later break pads are fucked up and need those fixed, just had an oil change and need ANOTHER one. today had to stop on the highway because it said to turn the engine off because oil was low even tho it said it had 1400 miles left until i needed a change and inspection
hello, does it have air suspension?
I am in the market for this vehicle and this was the perfect video. Thank you so much for your professionalism! God bless you.
Petrol or diesel?
Check the rear lower wishbones as they do tend to rust. Usually it's only surface rust, but if left, it could develop into something more serious.
I bought a used 2011 A3 from an Audi dealer and got recalled due to the emissions debacle. My EGR got clogged up. The dealer changed it free of charge. A few years later it got clogged up again. It's such a pain that none of my local garages or the Audi garage wanted do it (the egr is towards the firewall). Part ex'ed it for much less than it's book worth because of the warning light.
I think you should add the common water ingress issue into the footwells from the the panoramic sunroof drainage system. My advice is stear clear of purchasing any Audi with a Panoramic sunroof.
If it's got the same system as a Tiguan, then that car is plagued with it too. It's an easy-ish fix. If the Audi has spider traps in the drainage hoses from the sunroof, they can be removed from the exits of the drainage hoses. 4 sides. I removed mine in the Tiguan and 3 of them were easy to get to, and the fuel tank one was a bugger, but long nose 11" pliers did the job. The drain hoses fill up with water over time, and the orange spider valve caps are too rigid to let gravity take the water away, so it fills up and spills into the head lining. Massively common issue in the Tiguan, but so easy to fix yourself.
My MB E type suffered from blocked drains from tge sunroof wells around the glass roof down the C pillars on each side of tge windscreen.Even MB did nit clear it when told ! So got someI small plastic covered wire and inserted it at the roof drain down the C pillars on each side and out rushed the trapped water!
It had flooded the foot wells front and back in a heavy rain shower !
For those looking at buying a Q3, beware that there is currently a class action lawsuit being settled that affects 2012-2017 Q3 equipped with the 2.0t. There is a piston ring defect that can cause either excessive oil consumption or the engine to destroy itself(dealer replacement for that engine is around $10,000). My wife bought a 2012 Q3 after we moved but before I joined my family again so I was unfortunately unable to inspect the car or really research the model prior to her purchase. For reference her car consumes roughly 1 liter of oil per 300 km.
Beware!
I have a 2012 my13 cpsa had oil issue .
Previous owner used incorrect oil .
Run B12 chem through pistons and rotated crank to clean oil rings and then flush oil . Put new recommend oil you will need 5w-40 oil .
Oil burning stoped on mine also make sure your pvc dosent have an air leak .
Otherwise its a good daily no issues for 4 years give or take 50k.
You can find all this info on youtube .
What about the 1.4 tsi 150 ps from 2017 stronic 6 speed
Can we trust the new models? Is it the same engine. I have the same car too, i mistakenly overfilled my engine oil because it was indicating low engine oil level, it is burning engine oil too.
The 2018 Q3 is my new car:) I was searching for in-depth explanations of all the features and potential issues, but finished the video solely because I enjoyed his accent.
Thank you for the insight🩷
Driven 110,000+ miles from new in 2013 - almost faultless. Boot release catches a little now, but easily resolved with some WD40 and cleaning (when I get round to it).
The only repairs I carried out in that time are replacement of two rear suspension coils when one snapped, a wiring fault in 2021 and recently an ABS wheel sensor. The front suspension bearings may be getting a bit worn but it's done 110,000 miles and most cars would have required new suspension struts and springs in that time. All other work undertaken was routine maintenance e.g. brake pads and discs, Haldex Oil, DSG transmission oil and timing belt/water pump at around 70,000 miles per Audi guidance. It's still using the original exhaust with no issues.
One gripe - the ride is not as smooth and 'magic-carpet' as I would like, but I am comparing it with E-Class Mercedes or Volvo estates which is not a like for like comparison in cost or wheelbase length.
It's been a great ownership experience apart from cheeky dealership prices for service and repairs
I have an Audi q3 s Line 2.0 diesel Quattro with every option (back up camera, automatic boot, ecc) and it’s really good it doesn’t consume much fuel as well it’s pretty reliable
I have a 2012 Q3 Quattro great car just changed the glow plugs but it’s done 93000 plus miles so not too bad , only issue I found is the rear lights and that is the earth wire melting in the plug and and earth pin in the bulb holder has broken away but manage to modify the wiring on the earth connector saving me £45.09 per each bulb holder and that’s off eBay
Reliability wasn’t stellar in the one I owned. Bought new in 2015 it was a 1.4 TFSI manual. I purchased an extended warranty for it after three years and glad I did. One day it suddenly lost power as though it had gone into limp mode but no warning lights appeared on the dash. On investigation at the dealership it was reporting a low fuel pressure fault. They changed the pump in the fuel tank and that fixed it for a day or two. Then they changed the high pressure fuel pump on the engine…again just a short lived fix. They then got Audi tech services involved and engine management software was updated…still no better. TBH I don’t know what fixed it in the end only that it took weeks of repeated visits to the dealer and by then I’d lost confidence in it and moved it on. My wife had an Audi A1 with the same engine and that was no trouble at all over seven years of use so the Q3 was not I guess representative of a typical owner experience but the fault certainly caused some head scratching at the dealer workshop.
What is the maximum size of the rear compartment you can possibly get on these? I am looking to buy one of these and haven't yet gotten around to go to look at one, which I will do as soon as I know if it would actually meet the specs I need. Do the rear seats fold down to make more space and how much would it be in addition to the around 530 liter boot? Measurements in either metric or imperial will do, I am not good with gallons but interwebs will guide me if needed.
Excellent review! Have you done a video on the Q5 on a 2019/2020 year? While I imagine it would be a similar score, I'd be interested to know how the Petrol Hybrid model fairs... Thanks!
Smart review - thank you. Do you have a review of used Q5's as well?
Stretched and broken timing chains and excessive oil consumption are common faults.
I bought my Audi Q3 in 2018, it's a 2013 model, I've had the vibration for a few years and I've taken it back and forth to Audi, they've always said they can't find a fault but if it's common like you mention, then how can I get them to rectify it?
Should I buy an extended warranty on 2020 Audi Q3? No issues so far. Thanks!
Had a Q3 for 10 years and never had any of these issues.
Which Audi Q3 model and Trim is the best....
I'll never will buy a Audi Q3 again! - too expensive to maintain my Audi Q3 Premium Plus (2nd generation, Quattro, AWD, fully packed) - 1 headlight cost $1,800 USD, replace the Gas Cap (which cause engine light to come on ) $500USD! to replace it's oil cost $500USD, I was told the steering colum needs replacement because of vibration at 70mps - cost $10,000 USD - Audi (wants to be ferrari) is a rip-off !!
Where’s your extra info in the description?
I'm looking to purchase a 2021 Q3. Are there any specific issues I should be aware of for this year?
I'm in the same boat, what I heard it has some issues in the long term so maybe preventive maintenance would be great, such us pcv valve, thermostat, water pump (this one is so common not matter if you got an audi or VW 2.0), and then maintenance must be properly done ito avoid major problems, tramission fluid, filters , ...
Hello Scottish Car Clan! I've been an avid follower of your channel and truly value the insights you provide. I'm considering an Audi Q3 2013 Premium Plus Diesel model in India from Audi Approved plus team. However, there are a few concerns: it has a steering box issue, lapsed insurance, and the tyre condition is around 50-60%. I'm particularly interested in understanding the implications of the steering box issue. Could you also provide an estimate or insight into the cost of a new steering box assembly for this model? Your expertise would be invaluable in helping me gauge the fair market valuation and potential repair costs

Just purchased. Will take notes. Some concerns about squeals when reversing in the a.m. still has warranty. Tire pressure is important...splashy ride until nitrogen added. Help! Radio is intermittent...few seconds on, a second pause, then back on. Service writer had no answer...fuse? I think this car was repossessed from last owner. Put it on the expressway, no weird noises. I prefer driving in sport on city streets. Does this car really need premium gas all the time?
Hi I’ve just bought a 2015 2ltr q3 the hatch makes a clicking noise when going up and down sounds like it’s going to snap something when using.
Is this a future problem.?
Thanks
Is it smart to buy this in 2023 with 60,000 miles for $19,000? is it reliable?
I’d try to get lower miles, but it’s only 19k for a reason. I’m looking at a 2018 q3 too with 20k miles for 28k….

I'm looking at '17 Q3 Premium Plus w 54k for 19G🙄
@@TseMh not bad, I would snag that if I were you
That’s a great price be diligent with maintenance and you’ll be ok. I have a q3 and a6 both have been fairly cheap to maintain both cars at 90k
What irritates me about European car brands is they frequently deny other countries a stick shift option. The Q3 is NOT available with a stick in North America.
You should give Audi a stick for nor offering a stick lol
What’s common reasons for check engine light on and blinking ?
It could be so many things, it really needs someone who has a diagnostic computer to plug it in and determine what it is.
Hi
My wife's Audi Q3 judders when pulling off especially when warm
We have been told this could be the clutch
Details : Audi Q3 2.0 litre 138 BHP year 2017
Fantastic video! Thanks so much
Thank you for the information!
Please can you give us some more advice about the steering shake.. I’m due to pick up my Q3 2011 in a few days but the steering shakes after 80mph. The garage said they will check the shockers to see if that’s the cause. Any advice - please help.
Hey Mariya, there can be quite a few reasons unfortunately. Some very simple, some a bit mroe complex. I'd advise getting them to correct it before you accept delivery just to make sure you don't end up out of pocket. Another simple thing worth checking is if the wheels are correctly balanced. Good luck and keep in touch!
@@ScottishCarClan Thank you for the swift reply! I definitely will ask them to rectify this issue before I collect the vehicle. They said they will run it through the garage and a MOT but obviously I’m aware this doesn’t eliminate my issue. I’ll test drive it to ensure the issue isn’t there before I complete my purchase. Thank you.

@@MariyaaKhaan Balancing the wheels is a common issue but sick / free fix from the very ;)
I just picked one up, same issue vibration at 75mph+ did yours get sorted?
Great little buyers guide as always.
Bro this is and old Audi q3…. The newer one has way more technology…..
It’s for any MY18 and older. The refresh was MY19.
Hey bro
Get a nice reliable Lexus those cars are mad reliable Audi is garbage 🤣
How about Audi 2013 , Q3, diesel?
I think it's good if there is less electronics and all sorts of fashionable things?!
Great video👍
Thank you!
Should I buy this or a B9 A4? Can someone advise :)
Quite different cars! Watch this : th-cam.com/video/3ADuXjT-tOE/w-d-xo.html
Great information. Nice one!
Got a 2020 Q3 absolutely crap. Littered with faults including software faults, stop starts intermittently working, electrical tailgate motor failed and jammed, now washer pumps gone needs new one I've been told, luckily goes back in 8 wks
Most of those cars are owned by hairdressers or beauticians and car service history may have been neglected with cheap Chinese tyres
Wanna drive a good car? Buy Toyota, Honda or even Subaru...😂
Utter rubbish, a quality product based on a proven platform. Cheap available parts and well sorted, I have a 200k tdi quattro 177 2012 which I tow with, compared to an Evoke these are quality.
Please don't listen to Internet experts, an economical quality VAG car. The vibration is always engine mounts worn or lack of maintenance, clueless review.
What a T E R R I B L E accent.
AUDI NO NEVER!
Had the A4 2008 tdi s line ,one A5 tdi s line 2010,one Q3 tdi s line 2012 ,recently got a Q3 2017 s li e + Quattro,and never had any issues with Audi .I bet you’re just an Audi haters driving a ford fiesta pal🤦🏽
