Love that Suede have no intention of stopping. Like Bowie, Macca, or the Stones - they're one of the eternal greats.

I discovered this band just blindly ordering head music from a mailing catalog back in the late 90's while in high school. One of the best decisions I made and it's sad they never got big in the States. They've stayed true to their art and continue to put out fantastic albums. Autofiction is an awesome rock and britpop record; Suede is and always will be stellar! If you're already watching this video then go listen to the new album. Give them a shot just like I did over 20 years ago.

I recently discovered them or at least in more depth than I did at the height of their 1990s success when I did not understand what the fuss was about. That said, I thought Trash was one of the best tracks of the nineties by any band. They are seriously talented and creative. I read both of Brett Anderson's books, both interesting and recommended. Glad you are enjoying the music. Not the same genre but I had a similar experience when I bought Rovers Return the John Waite album from a bargain bin in Woolworths ( UK) in 1987, which turned out to be one of my favourite all time albums and introduced me to the rest of his music and led to me following his career to this day.

It’s not a Brit pop album- Brit pop ended in 1997. That was a movement in British music from 1993-1997 and while not all records released during that time are britpop, all britpop was released during this time.
You’re right about Autofiction though- it’s a phenomenal record.

If the goal was for Autofiction to feel like a Suede show they absolutely nailed it. There's nothing quite like a Suede show, but listening to this new album is as close as you can get.

Great interview ..... I've always been a Suede fan and I greatly appreciate how they pushed into other musical landscapes.
For me... Night Thoughts, The Blue Hour and now Autofiction is some of their best work, if not their best work.
They're one of one really - not many bands have ever been able to create relevant, good, fresh music like this .... later into their career.
And Autofiction is their best yet ...... in my opinion, it's brilliant. Even the B-side tracks are very very good. Cheers !

I think Autofiction is their third best record after the first two. It’s that good.

I think Blue Hour is the perfect mature record for the band that made Dog Man Star, and Autofiction the perfect record for the band that made the debut and the classic era singles. I'm not sure they have the interest to make something as poppy as a mature Coming Up though.

IMHO the first two albums are such a milestone in setting unique style and work that just for their origin, aesthetic and form at the time deserve eternal recognition. Plus they are piercingly beautiful. And the same applies to the B-sides. But I love every piece of art they have released, even the disowned ones.

Even though I was working my way up the corporate ladder in the 90’s, all my spare time was spent watching MTV. I loved the new sound of the 90’s, & the chick-fronted bands were producing astronomical songs. I fell in love with Justine the first time I saw Connection. It just got better from there. Even though Elastica was short-lived, the memories will always be there - I don’t think we’ll ever see another era like the 90’s, but who knows?

Really cool they released a live album of the whole album, now it's like it's superseded the studio album and *this* is the album proper, fully gets at their intention they describe in this video.

I so wish for them to wrestle some more with their perception of "Suedeworld". I don't think it's nearly as narrow as they seam to think. And yes, "Positivity" was like a big slap in the face for me and I didn't bother with "A New Morning" but there's more to it than Suede being "too happy" all of a sudden. Stop thinking so hard. Continue to follow your hearts, communicate within the band first and foremost, have fun, let each other shine and surprise us with un-Suede-ly things!

As a Suede fan from day 1, I'd like to see Suede keep to the mature, softer side like on The Blue Hour. It was fitting music (and lyrical content) for a mature artist moreso than the rockier side like on Autofiction. So I'm pleased the next album will swing to the experimental side again.
