In Drishti IAS Current News Bulletin, Atifa Qazi brings to you a summary of news events that happened last week. Recently the Supreme Court gave a historic verdict on 'same-sex marriage'. A five-judge constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud refused to recognize same-sex marriage. On the one hand, India ranked 111th in the recently released Global Hunger Index. India's score in the index is 28.7 on a 100-point scale. A total of 125 countries have been included in this list. Another hand in 'Global Remote Work Index' 2023 India got the 64th position whereas Denmark got the 1st place in this index. The country of Angola is at the last position in the report.
In other section, Amid Israel and Hamas war international war rules have become the centre of discussion. The rules applicable to war are set out in the International Criminal Court and the United Nations Charter. In 1949, after the Second World War, international humanitarian laws were created under the Geneva Convention for battlefield conduct. Along with that, recently preliminary studies of samples from asteroid Bennu have found high carbon content and evidence of water. Due to the evidence of water found in the samples obtained, it is believed that important facts related to the formation of life on Earth may be revealed. According to scientists, this asteroid is about 4.5 billion years old.
