Lou, you must have some awesome catalog or cars and enthusiasts where can pluck classics like this out of the air! One can see Scott really adores his VW and you really showcased the car nicely. Thanks for bringing another classic forward Lou.
With its flat bottom it was fun both on and off road a bit to drive back in the day. You do not have to be going fast to feel like you are. Who doesn't like a old Bug!
For carefree & fun cruising, you just can't beat the Beetle! Scott's '65 really looks great, too with its two-tone paint. Even the bison approve! Thanks, Lou!
That two-toned paint job is what the doctor ordered. I had two Beetles. One was a standard and the second was a 1974 Super Beetle. The standard one was the sportier edition and the Super Beetle the more comfortable concept. Both were great and had plenty of charachter, almost as if they had a soul. If you had spare points, condenser and a fanbelt stored in the trunk, you could practically travel anywhere on vacation, without a worry, unlike modern vehicles whose electronics and other complexities sooner or later could fail and leave you completely stranded. Beetles were both cool in Summer, because of the engine being rear-mounted, and supposedly in Winter (many claim that they were also cool in Winter). My front-mounted engined vehicles would always emit heat through the firewall. Therefore, making them hotter in Summer. The only thing of which I could complain about was that the seats could not fold flat, in order to create a bed for overnighting or camping in. But then again, this wasn't the original concept behind the Beetle

He said "Want to buy it?" $125.00 later and I was on my way. A couple months later I came across a '67 for $50.00 and bought it. You know what guys? I think I over-paid for that one... Thanks for the trip down memory lane Lou and G Clark!

Beautiful Beetle. My fascination and love for VW's started at an early age. My uncle had 2 Beetles and a 21 or 23 window Bus all at the same time in the early 70's. The sound of the engine and smell of the Beetle og interior lingers in my fond memories 😊
Good to see. We had a '63 with a rag sunroof. If you've never driven one they are fun to drive. We were too large to get in the way back. Although I managed it. I learned to drive on it. Let me say, very easy to learn on this car. Can we talk about the heat? Very hot in front. Freezing in back. If it was really cold, forget it. It wasn't my car. My car was a '69 Meadowlark Yellow Mustang convertible. Not easy to learn to drive a stick here. Almost took down a mailbox at a country Inn. Backing out. Then rocketing forward. My father just held onto his head as I blasted out on a country road. Need power? Not a Beetle. Try to drive or buy one if you can. Really really fun.

Yep! I did that plenty of times in our blue 67 Beetle, and possibly the black 60 before it. Furthermore, I don't remember ever riding in a baby/toddler car seat. I do remember, probably at 2 and 3, standing in the front and back seat of our red 1966 Galaxie we briefly had, and probably the white 67 Ford Custom 500 that replaced it. A toddler standing in the seat! That wouldn't fly today!

Love the shirt and Love the car!!! I was born in 1965 and legend has it, I was almost born in one of these, man that would've been a great story if I had been, Lol. This is such a sweet fun loving car, I mean, who doesnt Love a VW Beetle??? Punch Buggy!!!
Loved hot wheels and Johnny Lightening cars as well. Had many and still do. Reminds me of Herbie the Lovebug. My step father made dune buggies out of a lot of VWs and Corvairs.
Hi Debbie, Happy to read you have fun small scale cars, and glad this one reminds you of Herbie :-) Sounds like your Step Father knows how to have some fun with a good Dune Buggy ride :-) Lou
I owned a white '65 with red interior in the late 70's, bought it in an estate sale with a little over 30K miles. Loved that car, loaned it to my sister and she totalled it in an ice storm. Simplicity, quality--nothing American matched these.

This one reminds me of a beetle of the same era I saw at a show that was called "the creamsicle because it was a white orange tu tone... A very cool and gorgeous color!!
Hi, Lou! My parents got a used 1960 Beetle when they were first married, then had a 1966 Beetle, which they bought new. As Scott says, there's nothing quite like it, and I would have to agree that nothing sounds quite like it either. I've read one observer say it sounds like a lawn mower. Yeah, I'd say it does! LOL! Thanks to both of you for this leisurely ride through the park. P.S. I have to wonder where the bison came from. I don't suppose they are native to the area.
I have this exact same car...a stock 1965 Beetle Fontana Grau L595 etc. I've kept it original...not two tone etc. I've owned it for 47 years and driven it as my daily driver almost all that time. I bought it for $200 (all I could afford at the time) and am still driving it. Not a bad investment......My friends used to laugh at me, telling me that I was the only person they knew who was still relying of the technology of the Third Reich to get to work every day ! I just smiled.....

Neat Beetle. I bet this will be Scott's last. He can't top this one! I remember riding in the back seat of my friend's parents. I'll never forget how loud it was. I considered getting a newer beetle, knowing that it was the swan song for them. Couldn't get a dark green one that came with the baby moons. So then a 2018 V6 Passat was the next one I was interested in. It Sold before I could get it, and that was the end of V6's for Passat production. So ended up with a 2019 V6 Impala. Scott needs a Gumby too. a tiny piece of Velcro on windshield to attach Gumby.
This also reminds me of a Johnny Lightning VW Beetle set I picked up at a show a few weeks ago that shows a 60s Beetle and a modern day Beetle.. it also has a cool billboard you can change between the vintage and modern Beetle!
What's really funny is that original spare tire says "Continental" on it even though this ain't no Continental nor Lincoln Related vehicle we're looking at

I owned a 1965 VW Beetle from new. Color SeaBlue. 1200cc engine. Back in the day when you went to the gas station an attendant would pump the gas. While on vacation with a suitcase in the frunk I stopped for gas. The attendant would often pump gas with the intention of making an even dollar sale. This meant overfilling. After leaving the station and well down the road I smelled gas. I stopped and looked in the trunk. Suitcase reeked of gas. That’s why the attendant made an even $2.00 sale. Another beetle quirk was that in really cold weather you needed an ice scraper for the windshield. The inside of the windshield. The air cooled engine could barely keep itself warm in sub zero temperature. I think in Europe a gas powered heater was available. P.S. Back in the day I don’t ever recall seeing a Beetle with a roof rack.

When we got to where we going I happened to look at my car and realize I was the idiot that lost the wheel 🤣 the placement of the engine and the weight distribution allowed me to drive for like 10 miles 🤔 with three wheels

He said "Want to buy it?" $125.00 later and I was on my way. A couple months later I came across a '67 for $50.00 and bought it. You know what guys? I think I over-paid for that one... Thanks for the trip down memory lane Lou and G Clark!
Hi Lou, nice german car , this Beatle !
Greetings from Germany
Hi MyOldi from Germany, Happy to read you enjoy this Beetle :-) Lou
If there's anything I like more than my MoPars, it's the early VDubs (Beetles, Ghias, Type 2s, Buses, & Things). I have yet to own one, though 1 day I hope to - even if I have to build it from scratch. This is just the video to start your quest for another 100K subs, Lou! Thanks to Scott for sharing not only his Beetle, but the cool T-shirt as well.
Hi chemxfan, Happy to read you enjoy this Beetle :-) I receive your Prophetic message on to another 100K Subs. Glad to read you enjoy the shirt too :-) Lou
Thank you chemxfan! I get a lot of laughs wearing that t-shirt at car shows!

I love his shirt. I had a 1970 bug one time, wish I still had it. The old VWs were great. Good video Lou!
Hi Gary, Happy to read you had a Bug too :-) Fun shirt :-) Glad you enjoy this video, Lou
Great Bug ! I've owned a few over the years... I have that Johnny Lightning Bug on the desk in my office... :)
Hi Rudy, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your cars. Glad to read you have this Johnny Lightning too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful Beetle. My fascination and love for VW's started at an early age. My uncle had 2 Beetles and a 21 or 23 window Bus all at the same time in the early 70's. The sound of the engine and smell of the Beetle og interior lingers in my fond memories 😊
Hi David, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your fascination for this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

9:07 I remember being a little kid in the mid 60's and riding in that space behind the rear seat and over the engine in my folk's Beetle. Mum thought it was safer than the backseat (no seat belts of course!). As always Lou, thanks for the great memories!
Hi Roy, Probably the most dangerous place to sit, and yet, we LOVED IT :-) Lou
My childhood hero is VW beetle.

Great review as always - thanks!
Hi Jeff, Happy to read you enjoy this "Icon" :-) You're right, "Frunk & Treats". You're welcome, Lou
Hi Jaime, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Thank you for the kind words on this video, Lou
Love the shirt and Love the car!!! I was born in 1965 and legend has it, I was almost born in one of these, man that would've been a great story if I had been, Lol. This is such a sweet fun loving car, I mean, who doesnt Love a VW Beetle???
Punch Buggy!!!
Hi Hobiemarty, Win on the shirt, and win on the car too :-) Interesting that you were almost born in one like this :-) Lou
Parking lamps on top of fender came in the 12 volt upgrade in late 66 and 67. Loved my 74 SunBug my first Beetle was a 65

Happy to read you think this car is "very cool" :-)
Hi iswc27, Happy to read this one brings back memories of your Parents Beetles. Where did the Bison come from? Buffalo Grove? :-) Lou

Hi Cal Bob 750, you are a true VW guy! You need three hands to drive a Beetle in the winter. One to steer, one to shift, and one to scrape the inside of the windshield! Scott

Once upon a Time these things were as common as bugs on at a picnic. Who would have thought they would become rare and collectible? I had a 1963 beetle my friend and I were riding down the road one time and we saw a wheel roll past us my friend was like "look at some idiot just lost his wheel". When we got to where we going I happened to look at my car and realize I was the idiot that lost the wheel 🤣 the placement of the engine and the weight distribution allowed me to drive for like 10 miles 🤔 with three wheels

DYK Chevy actually built a big rig called Bison in the 70s?
I'm not sure?
So how did the two tone paint come about?
Hi Old Town, Former Owner painted it that way, Lou
Almost all VW dealerships will have a Beetle on the showroom floor. The cult continues
When I see one on the highway or TV “I’ll say to my wife look a Beetle!”
Nice :-)
The last VW beetle’s produced in Mexico are bringing up to $50,000 in the United States. Volkswagen should continue to follow up of the cult classic and have production continue in another country such as Mexico and reap the rewards of this phenomenon
