Operating in Afghanland we were equipped with infra-red detection systems and decoy flares. Whenever we had an incoming, firstly a very nice, gentle-sounding lady's voice would be heard in the headset, 'missile, missile'.. the flare system would rapidly dispense half a dozen sometimes more flares, each sounding like a shotgun blast immediately behind my seat.. amazing how quickly we get used to it and simply get on with flying the aircraft..
As an old bloke I am amazed at the power of computer software now.... getting difficult to tell real from fake especially at a glance.

Does the Stinger have the capability to ignore flares?
@@AgentSmith911 as far as i know, the stinger also seeks in uv em radiation, not only in infrared, which aids at avoiding the countermeasures. But im sure that they will probably delevop a countermeasure that emits uv and will mix them up with the normal, infrared emitting ones making the uv + infrared seeker of the stinger less useful.
@@dragonfire2371 Cool, I hope Ukraine has the latest version that can take out jets and helicopters that have flares as their main countermeasure.

In the Army, we who used the stinger missile system said “if it flies, it dies.”
until you need a medevac flight out of an enemy zone after getting hitting with artillery or a road side bomb, etc. , then you'll love the thing that flies. Same team here buddy. Or you break your leg and need hoisted out of a canyon down 250 feet, watch any extreme rescue or I shouldn't be alive, a good 75% of those end up with someone being rescued by the things that fly.

I've seen several of these videos with Ukraine stinger missiles and helicopters. The 1 video the 1 helicopter took 5 hits before it finally came crashing down. Looks like their missiles are duds 😂
