    A lot of airboats don't want to move across dry ground until you like floor it and work the rudders back and forth. That loosens up the contact with the ground so that it can start moving.

    How cool was that, Skippy lives.....!!! Now that the engine is "kind of" in, you should stick it back into the pool to look at the sitting weight distribution, empty vs passenger/driver loaded & before you mount the gas tank Ect... Also before you weld up the engine mount's permanently you might want to make them adjustable! Make the rear engine mounts pivotal/hinged and the front mount's adjustable height wise on blocks with multiple hole "settings" that way you can change the prop to transom angle easily to help get the boat into a neutral trim under load while testing it. The overall mounting height of the engine to the bottom of the hull is key as well. Ask you're airboat guys as there's a rule of thumb on how deep the tips of the blade's should be past the top of the transom. Can't wait to see Skippy's 1st voyage!

    Kyle,
    It looks as though the main engine/seat rail is parallel to the main plaining hull part while the actual engine has down thrust when it needs about 2 degrees of up thrust. Ask your AirBoat Boiz up your way for some clarification. I am the original Florida Man, been here my whole life. Boats, Buggys and Mud was my thing in the 80's!

      @@Danger-Dave When you compare different builds it is amazing to see how much of an impact small adjustments can make. With the same engine, prop and hull you can still have completely different acceleration and top speeds based on the engine/prop mounting height and angle. Reaching out to some of these airboat pros would be very beneficial.

    You should add a pitch control flap so you can raise or lower the nose as it moves forwards..you dont want it nose diving into the water. You could also add ski's or runners to reduce friction on land raising the belly up off an inch.

  • @calvinh.8882

    Just a bit of advice. I wouldn't ever stand on either side of the cage while it's running. If a prop comes apart the pieces go straight out either side of the cage, or out the top or the bottom of the boat. I've seen props come apart and it is quick and violent, and the pieces go through whatever they hit. The last one I saw come apart sent the largest piece straight through the boat hull cutting about a foot and a-half long hole through it about 3 inches wide, which sank the boat in about 8ft of water. And other smaller pieces from it went through the cage. They can be very dangerous.

    Definitely, if you could make the old twin turbo setup work it would be gnarly! plus you can balance the boat so you're not riding low in the water. You could probably do the same with the jet boat! You really need to get that jet boat leveled out and riding a little lower in the rear so you aren't fighting drag. Drag squares with speed so reduce drag!

      You can hand prop start airboats just like planes. It takes a few rotations to get to speed even if it catches, so you are fine. The worst that can happen is detonation spinning the prop backwards and it hits the back of your hand, hurts like hell! Airboats are actually safer than most planes as you can't get your clothing sucked in, because you're on the other side starting it.

    It's not moving because of the engine's pitch angle. It's just digging the nose under power. You need to lift the rear of the engine up so that it has between 3 to 6 degrees of upthrust. You can keep throwing power at it and it will dig the nose harder and not move. In the water, it will dig or tail wobble without proper upthrust. I'm pretty sure Kyle even mentioned it in the video.

    I'm no airboat expert, but I do fly RC airplanes...It looks like it has a problem that can effect planes that have the motor mounted above the wing, that of pushing the nose down. Since you don't have the motor mounts done yet, making ones that can adjust the pitch of the prop a few degrees fore/aft might be well worth the time needed to do it. You don't want it to slam the nose into the water when you go full throttle...not only will that waste energy, it might even cause it to take on water.

    I use those angle finders in the wood shop, you have to calibrate the tool to the waterline of the boat to get an accurate reading. Because you need a 12° pitch on the props based on where the water level is. So your 12° pitch that you put on there will change when it goes into water. Maybe im wrong?

    • @charleshenshaw9099
      @charleshenshaw9099 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The water line won't change the pitch of the props.

      @@charleshenshaw9099 how it sits in the water will though

    • @brandonbennett127
      @brandonbennett127 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Charles Henshaw so the pitch is not relative to the water?

    • @garyhowe88
      @garyhowe88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @trey menchaca you guys are confusing blade pitch and the angle of the prop in relation to the Hull, the blade pitch won't change.

    • @yeeeeyee
      @yeeeeyee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garyhowe88 Yeah you are right. The angle of whole prop unit seems slightly off because it keeps nose diving

    Dont you still need a radiator and all to cool the thing even though theres a giant fan pulling air across the motor..? Figured unless its a purpose built air cooled motor like some vw’s were back in the day then theyd need a watering system tl keep internals cool….

    • @ericbest9562
      @ericbest9562 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you still have to run a radiator on a liquid cooled engine on a airboat, they just haven't made it that far yet

  • @tristanoliva

    I agree with the engine being so loaded all the time you should run the 35/82!!

    I seriously can't wait, with a bit of angle from engine and weight off the fuel tank I think it will move n/a, just needs a bit of balancing the last engine probably weight 4 k series
