Beautiful reconstruction graphics. I realize all ancient ports and cities were small by industrial age standards, but some web reconstructions have made Carthage seem particularly minuscule. Yours is impressive.
Well Carthage reached around 200-250.000 inhabitants at its peak at the time of the Punic Wars (around the same population as Rome had at the time), and after being rebuilt decades later by the Romans flourished again and became the second largest city of the Empire together with Alexandria, at around 500.000. Rome reached a maximum of around 1.000.000 - 1.300.000 during the Empire. By 1800 only London, Paris and Constantinople (Istanbul) had more than 500.000 population in Europe. So it's only after the second half of the XIX century that that size started not being big or huge anymore. Still today it's that of a relevant medium city, especially as there was no "metropolitan area" counting in the population. So it's more a matter of how they draw them, very simplified
