I was teaching at the time. I was livid. The district mandated that we show the students. I was living in Louisiana at the time. We had a liberal New York transplant on staff at the time(gay woman) that was being ridiculous. She knew that very few of us had voted for him. I couldn’t understand why we had to show this to third graders.

I have another one who was hired over the summer, freaky rainbow person Adderall addict with aggressive tendencies who never stops talking. One day when the TV in our break room was showing something about the attempts on his life, she blurted out "another one? They get him? They need to hurry up and get him, they keep missing." It's frustrating how clueless hiring managers have the ability to make my life hell.

JFK, Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela, etc. Analyzing speeches is a great way to identify rhetorical devices, among other things. Also, what if this was a debate or speech class, which are within the English department? Perfectly relevant lesson.
I was thinking the same thing. As a former teacher myself, I was sickened by the advice columnist's undermining of the child's teacher. If a teacher has to walk on eggshells the students are not going to get a good education. The teacher could have been using this assignment to teach the kids to analyze speeches in all sorts of ways, or as a topic for them to write an argumentative piece, etc. Kids are in school to learn, and I feel that has become secondary to political activism at the behest of the parents to the point of great detriment to their education.

The students are perfectly within their rights to refuse to do the assignment. Likewise, the teacher is perfectly within her rights to give them a failing grade for the assignment.
I was working long hours, which included international travel & was trying to juggle elderly parents with cancer. I was getting ill, a lot, chronic pain, lethargy, repeated infections, etc. I was told I had bipolar & was prescribed some crazy drugs. When I sought a second opinion, it turns out I've had lupus. My experience is extremely common here in Ireland 🇮🇪
Times have changed. I am so glad I was raised in the 70s and 80s. I'm soon to be 52, and "school life was great." I remember having a "mock" election in elementary school. It was between Carter and Reagan. I fondly remember it being a great learning experience. There was no judgment or prejudice. It was a great time, and the school just wanted us to learn and experience the American voting process.
My son is in 2nd grade. They did a mock election. The candidates were Oreo or Chips Ahoy. His school is very patriotic. I love where we live so much. 🇺🇸
It is a speach - it does belong in English class. She might also bring in an acceptance speech from an author. They could certainly do a planned essay on the topic.

I took current issues in rhetoric during thr fall of Pres Nixon. Evaluating his speeches after Watergate. WHAT an education! Its lasted me 50 years!

I'm really messed up mentally. About ten years ago the dish soap went missing and I ended up finding it next day in the fridge. I'm the only one living here. I also don't believe in left and right socks. They fit both feet, I'm simply not going to budge on this mental issue though. I feel better getting all this out.
I have an X. Why? Because I am a Christian and a Trump supporter. After I got over the shock of being served divorce papers for that reason, I can now say good riddance!

And these are the people who decide the election in Canada.

She should not be giving mental health advice to anyone, and the paper should reconsider her role. Just because someone has experienced a single event in their life does not automatically qualify them to help others. In my experience, I’ve encountered many psychologists with significant personal issues, which raises the question: how can they effectively advise others when they struggle to follow their own guidance?
The students are perfectly within their rights to refuse to do the assignment. Likewise, the teacher is perfectly within her rights to give them a failing grade for the assignment.
We have reached a new level of insanity in this country.

Good Lord! What a pair of train wrecks! It's really difficult for me to comprehend the level of lunacy that exists in this country.
I was working long hours, which included international travel & was trying to juggle elderly parents with cancer.
I was getting ill, a lot, chronic pain, lethargy, repeated infections, etc.
I was told I had bipolar & was prescribed some crazy drugs. When I sought a second opinion, it turns out I've had lupus.
My experience is extremely common here in Ireland 🇮🇪

Times have changed. I am so glad I was raised in the 70s and 80s. I'm soon to be 52, and "school life was great." I remember having a "mock" election in elementary school. It was between Carter and Reagan. I fondly remember it being a great learning experience. There was no judgment or prejudice. It was a great time, and the school just wanted us to learn and experience the American voting process.

My son is in 2nd grade. They did a mock election. The candidates were Oreo or Chips Ahoy. His school is very patriotic. I love where we live so much. 🇺🇸
