I love this. I love how powerful Coperajah is. It's always been held back by its awful Speed. But here, its Life Orb Sheer Force boosted expansive movepool can demolish teams. It's been set free.
I actually looked at the Smogon thread and there's many other NU or lower tiered Pokemon that shine greatly due to not having to worry about their abysmal speedtier. Crabominable (partially a consequence that Glastrier was so stupidly broken it got banned, but also its signature move literally lowers Speed so it was bound to have utility in a format like this), Dragalge, Golurk, Vikavolt, hell there's even use cases for things like Gumshoos, Sudowoodo, or Greedent apparently. Stuff like Kingambit or Garganacl that were really good in spite of poor speed in standard play seemingly don't shift in viability much.
Curse in this format is just physical quiver dance but with wide distribution and quiver dance is special curse with almost none. It is kind of interesting how this format breaks the “power-speed-bulk” spread. Many powerful mons are balanced around being either slow or frail. Or fast bulky things lack power. But now mons that are not fast can have all 3. And there is no “counter balance to slow and bulky, because usually their main counter is being outspeed and losing the action advantage. Like Snorlax could be amazing since it switches into any special move and then out speeds with belly drum or curse set up.
@@Blastosie_Offical nah, you don't need fast pokemon, having at least 60 base speed and a 31 IV and a neutral nature would be enough to outspeed the majority of the things here. Still since everything is so bulky it's a lot harder to get a trick room sweep off so it wouldn't be that effective
@Magikarpador the format doesn't have Trick Room permanently active, it just reverses how the speed order works in and out of TR. Room Service works exactly the same as normal for now (there is talk of making it automatically proc when TR isn't active).
Try out Trapinch in this format. Base 10 speed, Arena Trap, 100 base attack. STAB First Impression and EQ, rocks, and your choice of tech move for the last slot. I think it’s theoretically pretty good.
arena trap is banned here just like all other metagames, but trapinch can also use sheer force. Also first impression is bug type and trapinch is pure ground type, so it doesn't get STAB. There's also not much reason to use it on trapinch in this format, since trapinch will underspeed almost everything except for speed lowering mons, and mons that have lowered their speed probably did so with curse which also buffs their defense.
@@aidancurry218 It's still rated "Good" in the metagame thread, and sheer force looks interesting (shame its special stat isn't usable though). I'd still try it out if you're keen on playing it in something other than LC.
A format where Rampardos can FINALLY be good! WHAT A SHAME HE'S NOT IN GEN 9. Edit: NVM, looked up his speed compared to the other meta staples. For the first time in his life, Rampardos is actually too fast. What a funny turn of events.
You could try it, but it would be very bad. Trick room in normal mons is barely viable, and that's when it's buffing pokemon that have their BSTs minmaxed out of their speed stat. Mons with a high speed stat are typically going to have low defenses, and they're only going to be useful for 4 turns. You could try trick room + ubers maybe, though. Water Spout + Thunder Kyogre might go pretty hard in trick room, looking at these teams.
except I just checked the metagame thread and Kyogre is banned, so I guess not. Nothing on the allowed ubers list looks particularly enticing at first glance.
@@ILikeCrunchyWaterblood moon feels like the only mon that is worth it and it's not really that great. Since blood moon can still work without the gimmick, it's just not as slow as everyone else.
just use a bunch of legendarys with trick room and like teleport and healing wish and deo attack because for some reason they allow you to use those mons lol
it reverses the speed back to normal, it's even worse than usual though since the only reason to use trick room (in singles) is to take advantage of the extra bulk and damage you get with slower mons, in this format you'd be sacrificing a ton of resources just to be able to use bad pokemon lol
i thought everyone was being dumb by not running iron ball but nope they've banned it since the tier came out, i'm not really a fan of that decision since it makes the speed tiers a lot more rigid. a lot of pokemon would rather run boots, leftovers, flame orb or a choice item than iron ball, and that allowed you to underspeed them with a mid speed mon using iron ball (anything in the 60-80 base speed range could be used like metagross), but now the vast majority of the dex is unviable. iron ball spam wasn't even broken, it gets destroyed by hazard stacking
@@june9914 what's wrong with that though? if your opponent spams iron ball you can just use your own iron ball mons to match them which completely cancels it out, there's nothing inherently broken about it when both players have access to it. and like i said there's a ton of great mons who really don't want to use it, the guts mons were all perfectly viable before iron ball got banned, regen pivots like slowking would rather have boots, and bulky curse users like dozo and garg want leftovers. banning iron ball just removes a unique aspect of the tier, and it disproportionately nerfed faster mons who were already at a big disadvantage
@@aldrichunfaithful3589“there is not anything broken if both players have access to it“ yeah that’s also the reason i advocate for unbanning mega rayquaza since both players have access to it /s
@@aldrichunfaithful3589i didn't consider it broken, it was just kinda boring. Everyone can run 6 iron balls, and that means you might as well take items out of the game. Item clause would make iron ball interesting to play with, but without item clause, it just removes decision making. I saw iron ball spam with slow fat mons and it was basically better than mid speed mons with iron ball.
@@louc.6735 i see the point but don't really agree, for example the team i built on day 1 was tornadus-t, ursaluna, garg, dozo, amoongus and torkoal, and only amoongus had an iron ball (torn was a boots pivot, ursa had flame orb, garg and dozo had lefties and torkoal was specs). i could justify running iron ball on all of them but i judged that a different item was better and it functioned just fine
