Absolutely fantastic! Thank you for sharing the music and your talent! Felt like I should have been riding on a big old Carousel! Outstanding job! 👏🎹🎼🎵🎶
+umajunkcollector Hi Don, You are so welcome! Of the approx. 4,500 American Fotoplayers built between 1911 and 1926 only about 51 survive today with only about 12 that play world wide.
It's because these mechanical machines had such complicated systems. They're very expensive to repair, IF you can even find a technician who knows how to fix them. Luckily, you can download the patent documents, with their technical diagrams. But you still need the parts and some mechanical skills, to do the repairs yourself. Even regular pianos are ending up in the dump, because electronic keyboards are smaller, lighter, and don't require tuning or other maintenance.
I never tire hearing a step back into the past. I grew up near Niles..the original Hollywood. Even had an English teacher whose Great Aunt was Faye Wray. Thanks again.
You mean Niles in Niles Illinois that would be so weird. I believe Niles is near Sullivan Illinois which is near Decatur. If I'm in the right place I did Summer stocking at Sullivan for many years. You may have seen me on stage God help you. I probably won't get an answer because this is so long ago and far away
Steph means Niles as in Niles Canyon in California near where I live. Great place. I hope to go there when they start having screenings of silent films again with live music.
That was wonderful and amazing! I found that the Livingston County Library in Chillicothe, MO has the sheet music to that song from 1888 and I wanted to hear what it sounded like. (I work in the archives at the Library.) I love your Fotoplayer!
I just knew about the existence of American photoplayers (and your yt channel) because of a viral tweet and I’m certainly amazed by the quality of sound and technique developed right here
@@TheAutisticKeybladeWielder Actually, the unused track "Coin-Op Bop" is made to sound as if it were played on a Fotoplayer. Only just realized that yesterday! (To top it all off, the track even becomes ever-so slightly faster at the end, simulating the tendency that piano rolls had to speed up!)
you should have not ruined it by trying different instrument. It should just be the piano because it is a piano piece. you wasted a good piece by playing with different instrument. that's a piece i remember my Mom with and it was ruined. it made me so sad,
It never ceases to amaze me, all the stupid remarks in the comments section. Joe did not ruin anything, notice that it is a roll made by a professional music co. If anybody ruined any thing, I would suspect them of doing it.
So many people have the same feeling as I do if you don't like it there's an off button on almost everything if there isn't enough button just take a hammer to whatever you listen to it on I had to write something anyway what a waste thank you guys

It's a shame that many fine instruments ended up SCRAPPED, so few are rescued. Thanks Joe, Don

Why?
Thank you very much putting me into a funk to. I can't play the piano but I certainly would never want to see a single one of them on the trash Heap
It's been nearly 100 years since that roll was first played (at least from what I can tell from the video) on Oct. 24th, 1925. That's nuts.

I used to live in Niles! Got stuck in the neighborhood waiting for the freight trains to pass through the canyon.

Great to see the old Fotoplayer with it's unique sounds. Love the piece too!

It's a circus band all in one big cabinet! AMAZING!
Analog midi player. I love it
Actually this would be classified as digital.
have to admit it is a pretty mind blowing piece of instrumental equipment for the time, quite impressive!

Why?
@@staspastukh2005 when was the video released? -- that's the last time it was played.
There's a video from 2020 on another channel - th-cam.com/video/Lqyi8EPuXUQ/w-d-xo.html
In reference to the roll. ❤
Excellent.👍
I have the actual record of this from the early 1900s

How do you know which switches to flip, cords to pull or buttons to press and when? Is it indicated on the scroll,
Beautiful some may agree. Creepy and scary as fuck, EVERYONE DOES. I LOVE IT!!!!!!
I let's be scared together I think it's great I would give anything to have one of these machines I'd sell my house and move into it
No Ferdy.. not EVERYONE finds this scary af! I rather enjoy it!
Joe Rinaudo do you have the soundtrack that was used for #onesimehorloger1912?
Oh good
I would love to see MIT try and make this .

An odd note. The dates on the roll looked like rubber stamps. Did they have adjustable stamps back then so you could set it to any date you wanted?
Linda blaire would be proud.
Oh my God most of these comments are years ago I'm a little too late to this argument it's now 2022
I kinda unironically like 1:42 's part
Is the piano deliberately detuned?
Tune your piano up!
HEHEHEHE.... bro...
organ
Thats a FotoPlayer
He means the piano in the Fotoplayer.
I think it sounds nicer this way
This music should be used in the Disney cartoons from 1925 to 1927.
Now I'm a guitarist and know very little about pianos but it sounded a little out of tune
robyn051 i know. I'm kinda late but he's either rebuilding it or just did because it was 40 years since the last rebuild
Ever heard something demon-related that sounds 100% perfect? 😛
@@adamrosenhamer3762 I’m even later but I think
I was being sarcastic lol
A bit quick to start - interesting arrangement too bad it is designed for the piano only - belongs in the circus??
Cuphead music😻
(nice reference,) but not even close
Why not even close?
