Couldn't watch this quick enough!! So thrilled to see Neil Finn. Have liked him since 1983.

Nick's comment...starting at about 1:48...about "commons" disappearing, is a truth of the state of the world these days. We need to get back to having things on some common ground so we can continue to move forward as a people and world community. Hopefully things will find their way back to the "commons"...before it's too late. Thanks Nick for the insight! Dig, DmGrk

At first I liked this comment from Nick but considering it further, this statement could be taken in different ways, so its kind of a false unity they are referring to. Those coming from a leftist, woke viewpoint could see the anti-vaxxers, climate change deniers, and those they consider far-right as the ones who are losing all common-sense and common values while from the other side, it may seem the leftist, woke crowd are the ones who've lost all common-sense. Neil is holding a mask under the table and Mitchell Froom has spoken out before about what he sees as the idiot anti-vaxxers so its pretty clear to see which side the Crowded House camp lean towards, which is the side most artists in these times lean towards or else they most likely wouldn't have a career any longer. Most clips from recent festivals I've seen feature lots of rainbow flags, Ukraine flags, etc but if someone showed up at a festival with an anti-vax, anti-mask, or climate change denial flag would there be this wonderful sense of unity, with people putting differences aside, as the interviewer claims? If Nick truly means humanity in general is losing the "commons" then I agree but I don't think we're ever going to find common ground on the levels being referred to because we have too much choice now, we're in times of the freedom to choose. The common ground we once had is being seen to be an illusion. When all we had was a handful of tv channels, newspapers and radio and all information was coming through those same sources its inevitable there was common ground cos your neighbour was seeing/hearing the same as you. For better or worse, we all have many more sources these days to build our sense of reality from, the mainstream has been exposed as full of hypocrisy and lies, so people will look elsewhere for some kind of Truth, hence all the disagreement.

@@davidwilliammusic David you make several valid points. There will never be a society where EVERY POINT OF VIEW or OPINION will be acceptable. I may be wrong, but i think Nick might have been inferring that so many have gone so far left and others so far right...that we're more divided than ever. I personally try to accept all points of view, albeit, I can't always fully agree with them. These days, there seems to be more of the "as long as you agree with me with your opinions, we're good" . I think this can be very short sighted in the long run. On the other hand, some of my best friends are people who have different political, social and religious opinions. The level of respect we have for each other keeps the relationship strong, and we do take the time to discuss things, and we almost always find it's OK to disagree. Some might say, "You should stop being friends because of the differences"....maybe, but I find for me personally, that having friends with these different opinions, keeps my life interesting and perhaps being exposed to these other opinions, encourages me to take a different look at my personal opinions, which might sometimes change. But I really, really agree with your line, " For better or worse, we all have many more sources these days to build our sense of reality from, the mainstream has been exposed as full of hypocrisy and lies, so people will look elsewhere for some kind of Truth, hence all the disagreement." Very well said. I also think this will continue to keep people apart and finding that "common" ground between them, and this will definitely have an effect in the future, one way or another. Paul Hester died in 2005. He and Nick Seymor (who was in this video with Neil Finn) are Australian.

Nick thinks Liam and Elroy are pretty good and is relieved neither plays bass.
