There's a wonderful relationship between the guardsmen, soldiers and horses. I think the only thing that troubles the guards is when tourists who don't know much about horses attempt to get too close or pet them too much, in case it spooks them.
They stand watch a lot in their lives, endure all the tourists and heat noise! It’s amazing how well they do behave on watch. They have figured this gig out!

Btw: My uncle is in the Grenadier Guards and I have the highest respect for the guards and feel they need PROTECTION from some idiots who act like pests. Not really. You’d have to carry a sponge as well as a trug full of water and It’s HEAVY and once you get there, you don’t want to get hairy, sweaty water into the drinking water so what do you do after the first wetting? Also they aren’t TRYING to get their uniforms soaked(the horses goals MAY differ here 😂)so sticking it in a pocket isn’t really a go even wrung out . Easier to just use their hands…..all that matters is that they get the water on there, not how it gets there so much, and that way the water stays clean to drink for the second horse.
Does anybody know why horses swish the water around before drinking? I’ve never owned horses but I have donkeys. Donkeys don’t swish the water around. They just go straight to drinking. They also stick their tongues out afterwards.
They’ve been at this a long time. If there was something wrong, they’d know. There’s nothing wrong with the horse. I’ve never heard of a bit breaking because it’s isteel and sits behind their teeth.

London is getting too hot and too buzzy for the confinement of these great horses to be standing on concrete for ages carrying 12 stone without the stress relief of movement. The soldier was as caring as he should be, but horses need constant access to drinking water/automatic watering bowls they drink about 16 gallons a day if allowed.
@@kathellison8084 1 hour is too long to stand still carrying all that weight in such an environment. Shock absorbing rubber stable matting could be put in the sentry boxes to ease the fetlock a bit , but 15mins or no static duty at all would be best. Also am shocked these horses don't have the standard 12 ft loose boxes so they can lie down or roll, instead they are tied in stalls that look 6 feet wide. Not acceptable for horses that do so much road work.
It warms my heart to see people being kind to animals. It was nice to see the horses were rubbed with the cool water as well.
And when they get back inside they have 'mash' full of electrolytes.

The " face pull" is called phleming and horses do ut to get aromas to its iflactiry organs which ar basicily behind the top lip and above tgd teeth .

They are actually just offering the horses water. The splash down is more of an affectionate thing. They get a proper rub down once indoors.

The rolling of the bit is a habit for many horses when they're bored.
