This week, we're checking off another Bucket List Destination! And we're doing it on Stacie's Birthday! Join us for a fantastic day exploring amazing, historic and very unique Mackinac Island, Michigan.
We'll take the Mighty Mac Shepler's ferry from Mackinaw City MI on the mainland, under the Mackinac Bridge (via 2 of the Great Lakes: Lake Michigan and Lake Huron) and we'll spend the entire day exploring Mackinac Island by foot and horse-drawn carriage.
Some of the places we'll explore on Mackinac Island include Main Street, the original Market Street, Mackinac Island State Park, Arch Rock, and the Grand Hotel.
In this video we also share Mackinac Island stories we learned, parking tips, island history, and how to save money when you visit Mackinac Island.

Your video came up as a recommended video on TH-cam. First, I am glad you got to come to Mackinac island. A small slice of beautiful northern Michigan.
When you went to the Grand Hotel, your carriage passed Sadie’s ice cream parlor. Sadie was a Scottish Terrier owned by the previous owner, Mr Dan Musser and his wife Amelia.
Sadie’s claim to fame was she won the 2010 westminister kennel club show. She has since passed but her legacy lives on with the ice cream shoppe.
That is a very cool story. We will have to stop in next time. Welcome to our channel! 😊
Stacie and Tom, you guys must come back early fall to see how beautiful the Mac Island really is. Every house, every window is decorated with colorful flowers. The Grand Hotel’s grounds are just amazing with so many Monarch butterflies flying around. And, of course you need to bike or walk around the island. We are hoping to take another trip in early September. Thanks for sharing.

I grew up in Michigan and have been there a few times. I now live in Houston Texas but this summer we’re taking our teenage son to Mackinac island for his 1st time. It will be great to get back there again. 👍🏽

Mackinac was worth going to once. Give me a choice between going to Big Bend and Mackinac, I'd pick Big Bend. I did really like the upper peninsula. Tahquamenon Falls was awesome. And no, I didn't spell Tahquamenon from memory, I cheated. Guess I'm showing that I've adopted Texas.

My wife and I took that ferry while we were on our honeymoon. We pedaled around island on a tandem bike! I can’t believe how developed the downtown is now. I’m so glad you got to see the arches. What fun! Happy Birthday!

You picked the right boat and your! I always use them. I love Mackinac Island, but I have never been there when it was nice and sunny. I always rains! But there is so much to do inside when it rains. I just moved to Texas in November and I started following you to learn more about Texas and now you are visiting my Home State learning about it! So cool🎉❤

You couldn't build the Grand Hotel today in 93 days. To do that in the 1880's would take many hundreds of workers. All the materials would be pre-ordered so there would no delays.

Thanks for the great video of Makinaw. We are going to be there in two weeks. We are traveling with a 37-foot class A and a Chevy Traverse that is pulling a pop-up camper. Do you think we would be able to park in the free parking area with our rig and without unhitching the pop-up?
No idea on that one. You might need to call them but it will probably depend on how busy they are and now it is in prime time.
Could you tell us what the actual date of visit was, for our own trip planning? It looks like it was pretty chilly - I am guess April or May.

I’m curious about what you do with your dog when you spend the day sightseeing? We are about to hit the road with our 13 year old dog (including the UP), but worry about how to leave our dog for hours and hours…tips? Thanks
Great question. We get her morning routine (potty break, breakfast, walk, repeat potty break) out of the way before heading out. We’re mindful of how long we are gone so she doesn’t get uncomfortable. Star & Astro hang out in the airconditioned RV at the campsite while we explore. If there are a lot of dogs/people in view of the windows, we lower the shades and leave dimmed lights on so they will relax. As soon as we get back, Star gets a potty break and they both get treats for “being oh so good”.
@@rvamericayall Wow (or actually Bow-wow), thanks for the fast reply. That is our plan for now, and we do have decent solar on our 5th wheel, more concerned about potty situation. Have you ever had to hire someone to come to rig for a walk/potty break? Work well?
