@Carlos Saraiva... I'm sorry but I don't see how it wasn't in tune with the rest of the show, the "happy ending" had a very clearly underlying bittersweet feeling, what with Hue dying and of course Nell still being dead.
But at the end of the day, it was about a family, one who where torn apart by something out of their control and didn't know how to find their way back to each other, that was something that needed to be resolved and they did it perfectly, without the sentimentality it simply wouldn't have been able to deliver on the emotions it was building up with the family, and it certainly would've been incredibly unsatisfying for it to be a bad ending where they don't find themselves free from the house.

Oh my God my heart completely goes out to the twins and Theo. Shirley and Steven as well but not as much. Just everything there's so much in this and I can't freaking say it because I don't want to spoil anything, but there are elements to the show that are truly heartbreaking. I also think that they picked child actors that looked very much like the adult actors that they were playing. They did a great job in casting.

The scene with Shirley and Theo with the banging on the wall is a scene from the book (the book is extremely different) but that scene scared me so much. I had chills reading it and so when this scene happened I got a little freaked out too because of flashbacks lol. And I love your reactions so much because y'all are some of the few who understand Shirley's anger towards Luke. Everyone is like "OMG what a bitch" when she paid thousands of dollars of her own money. Drug addiction is heartbreaking and it's stressful on the family too. She obviously doesn't really want her brother to die but she was pissed.

Shirley's anger is not the issue. The issue is that she has no right whatsoever to keep Luke from Nell's wedding. That's not her place; it's an objectively shitty thing to do, and is a total violation of Nell's desires and autonomy.

OMG! I never realized that Elizabeth Reaser, the actress playing Shirley, is Esme from the _Twilight_ series. I've only ever remembered her as Ava from _Grey's Anatomy._
    R.I.P. Baby Kittens.
I have better stories than this one, but it's too long, and I don't have time to write it right now.
Here's one, tho: After my father passed away, I was washing the dinner dishes (it's something my father often did as a family chore, leaving my mother & us for other stuff), and I felt a hand on my shoulder, and a presence behind me. At first, I cringed (normal response right?), but then I thought, if it was anyone, I choose for it to be my dad. So, I said out loud, "Hey Dad. It's okay, I got this. Love you." And the presence diminished, until I didn't feel him anymore. I started washing dishes again, and didn't realize until a few minutes later that I was crying.
Great reaction & review & editing, as always. 😊❤️

When my friend's mom was still pregnant with her, she would hear someone kicking her closed bedroom door at night. She would ask who was knocking but there would be no answer. She was too scared to open the door herself. They lived in a pretty quiet, private suburb, and this was the last thing they would have expected. After a few nights of this happening, she told her maid about what was happening, and the maid warned her never to open the door if she heard kicking again. The maid said she would spread flour outside the bedroom door to track whoever might have been kicking.
That night, right on schedule, my friend's mom heard the kicking again, more aggressive this time. She called out but there was still no answer. The kicking only got louder and louder, but eventually stopped. The next morning, after a terrible sleep, she approached the door and swung it open. On the floor, leading away from the patch of flour, were hoofprints.
Maybe not the scariest story, but friend told me this at night and I got insane chills from how bizarre it was. Also, satyr imagery/tikbalang imagery (if you're familiar with the Filipino mythological creature).

SCARY STORY. My mom's long time friend told me this story, as it was narrated to her by her father. It happened to him, when he was a younger man. When he finally told his daughter (mom's friend) this story, he was an old man. Any way, this happened back in the mid 1960s in India. He was living with his family, in his ancestral house, which was in a remote village. And back then electrical coverage was not wide enough for street lights in those kind of rural places.
Now, he had a respectable Govt job in the city, which was a long commute by bus. So he would leave his home before dawn every morning, and come back around dinner time. One day, as he was leaving his wife told him to come home early, for some religious stuff that was happening that day. Some prayers and rites. He said he'd try. Unfortunately, work ran late, and he got off the bus about 2 miles away from his home, only around midnight. He was not someone easily spooked, and being a highly educated guy, he prided himself on being very rational.
He had to walk 2 miles through some fields and wooded land, before reaching the main populated part of the village. And back then, the practice was that there would be these 'torches' made of dry leaves and wood, which would be kept in bunches around the area. So anyone walking home in the dark, could just pick one up, light it and use it to get home. They were sort of community property, I guess. So he picked one of those up, and started walking.
The thing with these torches though was that they were not lit till a full flame per se. What you did was you lit one end, and then you kinda stubbed it out on the ground, leaving just a smoldering fire on it. This way, on long walks, you didn't burn through a whole torch half way through, and they didn't require oil or fuel to burn. So you just swung these things in long arcs, and you could make out a few feet in front of you dimly. And in the dark, if you saw another swinging arc of a glow, you knew someone else was approaching.
So, in essence, he could barely make out a couple of feet in front of him at a time. And on this night, as luck would have it, the sky was dark. A new moon night.
As he passed the woods, he noticed how quiet it was that night. There were no winds or even any small animals or anything he could hear. He was tired though, and eager to get home, so just walked on, not paying much attention to anything.
The fields stretched on a for a bit. One person's field after the other's. These were rice fields or paddy fields, so the field itself would be wet and half flooded for the crop to grow. So you had to walk on these narrow mud embankments between the fields. They were usually in a grid format over the whole field area, so you used them like tiny roads. He passed a few fields, in the dark, and a few more lay ahead. It was as he was nearing the end of them , with just one or two field left before it was solid ground again... that he heard it. His name. There was a voice calling his name out from a little away. Faint, but he did make out it was his first name for sure.
But the thing was he couldn't see any of those torch's glowing arcs around him. It was pitch black, except for within the swinging distance of his make shift torch. He yelled out, asking who it was. There was no answer. So he paused for a bit, slightly weirded out, but decided to keep walking.
Then it happened a second time. This time the voice was much louder, and closer than before. He turned again and looked. No lights anywhere. Now he was beginning to feel this sudden creeping fear. Then before he could turn and keep walking, the voice came again. this time not more than 20 feet away from him. It was so loud, and so unexpected that he got startled and lost his footing. He slipped into the paddy field. He was now a little higher than ankle deep in the muddy water.
He was genuinely scared now. No lights, no person, just a loud voice. Then... the voice came again.
But this time... it was not normal. It came like the sound of rain, he described it later. Like a wave of water was rushing towards him, with a rumbling sound. And it was not one voice. It was as if many dozens of voices had called out his name at once and it washed over him with a chill.
He didn't care anymore, and he turned and began to run now. His mind didn't have much time to process it, before he heard the a lot of footsteps chasing him, each making a noise as the water splashed. He ran wildly towards the end of the fields and he made it somehow, having fallen and gotten mud all over him. His torch was now out. He knew the landscape though. So he ran again through the paths, and then the roaring wave of voices calling him came again.
He would later say, he almost felt fingers brush against him in the dark. He said it was a blur, how he got home. Turns out, that was a special new moon day. His wife reminded him, later. The annual new moon before harvest, when according to local beliefs, the spirits of the ancestors came seeking their offering. That was the rites they were supposed to do that day. It had completely slipped his mind. He did not tell anyone about that night, except his wife. He told his daughter only decades later, when he was in his seventies or eighties.
And she told us. And now I've told you. The only scary story I know.

Fun ghost story: When I emptied my parents’ house, I got a big wooden trunk which belonged to my great grandfather. He was an engineer and used to travel all around the world to build railroads - his family (including my mom’s dad) traveled with him. They had over 20 trunks like this one when they sailed to China. All had a very complex lock, like the ones you find on old safes, which a button you have to turn left or right. My grandfather was the only one who knew the combination by heart and he taught it to me when I was 9 or 10. When my grandfather passed, my parents lost the note on which they had written the combination and I forgot it - so they left the trunk open. A friend helped my to carry the trunk into my flat and before I could tell him not to close it, it was too late. Before going to bed that night, alone in front of the closed trunk, I said to my grandfather as if he was in the room: ‘please, please, please, help me open it’. I swear - my hand just moved left right right right left left like that. And the lock opened. Apart from that, I am a super rational person. I have to say, I was dumbfounded.

Since you asked...I didn't think this was scary. It was just strange.
I lived in a small apartment with my family. So small my sister and I shared a queen bed. It was a weekend night. I went to bed at like 230a/3a. Before I before actually fell in to a deep sleep, I heard the door open. I didn't move...because I was listening. I felt something touch the bottom of cover and it was like dragging a finger along the side where I slept. I felt something touch my leg and it traveled up to my shoulder. Now at this point...I was like what in the flaming hell. I peeked through my slightly opened eyelids and saw nothing, but I still felt someone touching me. I kept my eyelids partially open and still saw nothing. Then I felt a full hand on my shoulder, another hand smoothing my hair back, and I felt a kiss on my cheek. Now when that happened, I popped my ass up and looked around. My sister was in a deep sleep. She didn't even move when I tried to wake her.
And no....it wasn't my mother. Because she doesn't wake up and do that mess. That would be weird. lol My father worked nights so he wasn't home. It wasn't scary, but weird. lol

Last video you asked for experiences so here's mine. About ten years ago my best friend and his wife inherited an old house .You could walk in to the kitchen and everything would be normal, go back in ther a minute later and drawers and cabinets even the fridge would be opened. This happened always , they had three young kids and would explain it that way. I spent many days and nights there over four or five years and the cabinets just became normal. One night I was leaving the kitchen and saw a shadow in the corner of the room and watched it shrink to nothing. My visits began to be less and less and only during the day. The last tlme I visited there at night I entered the kitchen to get a drink and saw a full-bodied apparition dart directly in front of me. I've been robbed at gunpoint twice in my life and this was the most scared I've ever been. I told my friends and left the house never to go back. A couple months later my friend called me to say that in the middle of the night his middle kid, four years old, burnt the house down. How f'n creepy is that.

They called his wife and after a few minutes, ANOTHER drunk guy with injuries came in. Sooo one story I can tell you that was really weird. In my 20s, I was shopping at the local toys r us, and went in to use the bathroom. The door to enter was loud, and my footsteps echoed and the tile creaked. It was a small bathroom, and all the stalls were empty. While I was in the stall, I heard the faucet turn on. That's weird, I thought, because no one was in here … and I didn't hear anyone enter the bathroom. The water faucet turned off. I flushed, left the stall and ~ no one there. Though the hair on my neck stood up, I thought "whatever" and tried to put it out of my head.
Years and years later, my kids and I are watching some ghost adventure show, and they mention that toys r us, the one in Sunnyvale, and that it's been haunted for decades, ESPECIALLY THE WOMEN'S BATHROOM WHERE THE FAUCETS GO ON AND OFF. "Mom?" One of my kids asks. "You okay?"
Soooo, yeah, I def believe there's "something more, Horatio."

I had the opportunity to raise my late grey tuxedo cat since he was a newborn kitten. My mom told me a story of how my grandfather once slept outside to guard their harvested rice stalks until they were dry enough to bring to the mill for processsing. In the Philippines, it would take about a week of sleeping/guarding the rice. My mom told me that my grandfather woke up one night and saw a Spanish colonial priest holding an open bible in one hand and rosary beads in the other. There was also sightings of a ghostly white wild boar that lived under a bridge.

A work colleague was making a delivery of a bed to an address in London, rang the doorbell, no answer. Rang again and an old lady's voice called down from the upstairs front bedroom, said everyone was out but to leave the boxes on the front path.
As he was doing this a car pulled up and a family got out and asked what he was up to. He explained and they said that they were just getting back from the funeral of the dad's mum, who spent her last years in that front room.
Don't know if it's for real, but it gave me goosebumps when he told me.
Fantastic reactions, good luck Steve with the later episodes.

Such a great show and reactions. On a side not i love the way she says kittens....kit-tens. lol. As for scary story there's a park a town or two over called Boothe Memorial Park. The house there belonged to the Boothe Family "The Boothe House" , it's restored and everything but people have said they've seen and heard things. So one time i was at the park with the family, walked away and looked at the doors of the old house which were shut. Even had a sign saying visiting hours and such. I look up and one of the window curtains pulls aside a bit as i i watched as if someone was watching me but the place was empty and locked up. Yeah....i got out of there fast. lol

This show is good about different timelines making sense, usually I am so confused. Once I figured out each character's before vs. after actors it was easy to follow.
Back in 2001-2005 HBO had an awesome drama series on called "Six Feet Under" about a family of morticians and their funeral home. It showed what their lives/jobs were really like & how death affected them both personally & as a business. I learned a ton about the industry and the people in it from that show. Check it out someday if you can, it won a lot of awards.

You just get so attached to these characters. And its so creepy, and you guys should keep an eye out for ghosts just hanging out in the background of pretty much every scene. Its also just really emotional too, so I recommend having tissues handy from Episode 3 on.

Raised on a farm with many animals, as I, one could see many stages of life and decomposition, bugs and some birds, eat dead things. Geese are mean and will attack you, rabbits eat their pooh, llamas with their forward facing eyes and teeth freak me out!
A few acres from our farm was a hill where local farmers would dispose of any animal that had died on their property, a final resting place. It was more out of practicality than a ritual. Animal dies, drive to the Hill, unload the animal let nature do its work. Though birthing livestock is more special, and a special animal, usually a personal horse, would be buried on your land. Sometimes near the family plot, or cemetery. My horse rests near the lake we all celebrate life events. It is a good place.
My simple "ghost story". On a couple of new to the area seasoned quarter horses we rode the back way to the lake. As we got close to the "Hill" they could feel the "bad" place and began to ride rough until we turned back. We knew what the Hill was, they had never been there, but sure knew the way back! Very spooky, but natural at the same time.

The scares in this show are almost incidental to the story of family dysfunction, sadness, guilt and attempted reconciliation. What a great secret bonus surprise that you chose to react to this. There are only a few horror series out there, but IMO this is light years ahead of them all. Meticulous scripting, casting, acting, writing, photography and message. Can't wait for ep 4, 5 and 6. There is only one true jump scare in this series and it comes way late, but it serves a purpose. You'll know it when you see it. Thank you and enjoy the ride!

The show is a re imaging of a novel by Shirley Jackson (yep the character here is named after her) and there are many references to the novel as well as the 1963 film adaptation (particularly the wall banging scene which originally involved Nell and Theo)

When my family had my sisters wake, they did an amazing job on her. They'd requested a very recent picture of her so they could do her makeup in her usual way.
