i was in the marching band in the blue and white,i can remember this like it was yesterday, saw one of the drummers today for the first time in 45 years
Hello. I am so pleased I have found this' all my life I have been involved in with am carnival. My grandparents were a big part of the carnival comitee I think about this time and since so have I and my family. Thanks for sharing
I also filmed other Carnivals and the Pram Races. (I also filmed another Carnival, but that film currently resides in the East Anglian Film Archive in Suffolk) Glad you liked it. Alas, the Carnival has slipped of late, now the large decorated floats have dwindled in number. Last year, there were no Marching Bands, only twirlette troupes. Lets see what this year's even brings
That was great that bought back lovely memories, would love to see the silver jubilee 1977 carnival, I was withams carnival queen that year, like you say those were the days fabulous memories
Unfortunately, I didn't film every year, so I don't know whether I did '77. (I have one in the Anglian Film Archive, but no idea what year that was!) Glad you liked it anyway.
Yes, from a time when Carnival Day meant something, when stores decorated their frontage, people dressed up and happy, smiling people. Fast forward to 2018 ...
Glad you liked the film. At last, someone from Witham has seen themselves in the film. Glad you liked it. (Those were the days when Carnival was an event with lots of colourful floats - not like the sorry effort we had last year!)
Happy memories although Witham has almost doubled in size and there's so many more people live here the carnival then the streets where packed and buzzing nothing like today then it was on to the fair why was it then the price for a ride was fair now it's silly money today sad really. But a great time
Prices obviously have to go up for inflation, but I totally agree with comments. I mean, a "Smokey Joe" beefburger at £4:50 ??? A cup of tea at £1.50. Most of the Fun Fair rides averaged £3 a time. (Only fair one was Helter Skelter @two trips for a quid) I pity a Mum and Dad with a couple of kids. You could easily blow £50 ~£60 on the day !
Oh, wasn't there just! And what a poor show it was too when compared to the like of this film. Not just my opinion, but also chatting to a couple of people on bench outside McCalls

Yeah I know such a shame. I moved from the area for a few years but I am back and am helping out on Saturday. Will be interesting to see
Before Witham got swamped by commuters and housing fort those that can afford it!Takes me back to nice times. Thanks for sharing.
Yes ... happy days! Carnival now just doesn't compare
That's great, well done for keeping that, and all the others.

Chris Brown I was there with my friend riding my bike and I accidentally dropped my icecream. Maybe you saw me, i was riding a Black Russian
Have you got earlier carnivals? I know I was on a float in the 1974 Witham Carnival
Unfortunately not. The year 1974 would have been around the year I got my first camera, and I was "learning" how to use it at that time. Sorry
