An alternator is an electrical current generator. Or rather, an alternating current generator is called an 'alternator'. An alternator is a device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy and produces alternating current. By converting this alternating current to direct current, the battery of the vehicle is charged by it.Earlier, dynamos were used to charge batteries in vehicles, but for the dynamo to work, the engine needed to run at a higher rpm. The current the dynamos produced when the engine ran at low rpm was not enough to charge the battery.
The alternator consists of the following main parts: Rotor assembly, Stator assembly, Diodes, Electronic regulator.
