  • This video is one of five parts from a live performance at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Arts on 20 October 2019 in honour of the Centenary of the birth of The Báb., Prophet Herald of the Baha’i faith.
This video is a dramatic monologue from the character of Tahereh, an authentic historical figure here played by Maryam Toumrai.
Tahirih, "The Pure One," and "Solace/Consolation of the Eyes" are titles given to Fatimah Baraghani/Umm-i Salmih. She was an influential poet, women's rights advocate, and teacher of the Bábí faith in Iran. She was one of the "Letters of the Living", the title given to the first group of followers of the Báb. She was ultimately executed on official orders at age 35 for her refusal to cease calling for the education of girls and women. Her last words were, "You can kill me as soon as you like, but you cannot stop the emancipation of women".
    Monologue written by Jack Lenz.
Music composed by Jack Lenz. Music performed by Jack Lenz, Ernie Toller and Kevan McKenzie
