6:13 Madeline actually goes to the spa as an emergency... earlier there was a deleted scene where Madeline tells Rose she has to work that night, get a whole team ready to make Mad look good and threatens Ernest to not get too chummy with Helen at the bookparty. This scene was an extention after both are ready to leave for the morning when Ernest tries to sneak past Mad's bedroom after she opens the door and asks him where he is going and says "Ghoul!".... the next scene is her in bed with Dakota making love, when they have finished he goes out of bed to work out, looking at himself in a mirror while Madeline goes on about Helen and she notices a line in her cheek and then loses it, prompting her to contact Chagall's.
12:44 Before this scene Mad actually is still in the jumpsuit when the phone starts ringing. It's Dakota who starts to apologize for their earlier encounter. Mad tells him he actually will be too old for her soon, but then they slowly start to get flirty. Mad moves to the door which has opened, Ernest is standing there, fuming... Mad tells Dakota to get rid of the girl, not be boring and be undressed when she comes back over.... and throws the door shut into Ernest's face.
The movie was cut down when the ending was changed completely... resulting in many scenes cut (more than 30). Nancy Fish as Rose the maid role was cut down a lot (One hilarious scene where she finds Madeline completely frozen in the home freezer) and Tracey Ullman as Toni (a bar maid who ended up becoming Ernest's wife) was completely removed.

Oh really? That’s interesting! It would definitely be interesting to see the original/extended version to compare the two (now I’m wondering if the end result turned out more or less campy than the uncut version). Do you know what the original ending was before it got changed?

@@stutter_boxThe original movie definately had less campy, more moral moments but still funny. It was definitely over 2 hrs long. The ending was only reshot 3 weeks before release (one week before the premiere in NY).
The bar girl Toni was in an early scene in the film (after Madeline tears up the card from Chagall.) Ernest talks about having wasted his life and Toni offers sympathy. There is a drunk, almost comatose guy next to Ernest who does nothing but hang around the bar. Madeline's movie (that Helen was watching earlier) is on in the bar. "What are you doing here!!!" Almost making Ernest jump off his stool, but then he sees it's just the movie on the little tv. Toni wants to turn the tv off but Ernest tells her not to. When Mad finally has been murdered he smirks and tells Toni to turn it off. He talks about having to divorce Mad and Toni says he has every right to but he says he can't cause he made a promise and that he envies the guy next to him for having nothing in his life. He then toasts the drunk.
Then after Ernest has fallen through the glass of Lisle's pool he wakes up on the bottom of it and sees a light floating above him. It's the potion vial, still intact. He fishes it out the pool and tells Jim Morrisson they will all be done very soon! Showing them the potion. (You can even see Ernest holding it in his left hand when he walks away to the door)
Ernest goes to the bar, Toni is worried about him so Ernest tells her the cult is after him. She asks if Madeline is involved and tells her she is. So Toni believes every word, then Ernest shows her the potionn.
Madeline and Helen search for Ernest at the house but can't find him.
Ernest and Toni inspect the potion and the drunk comatose guy sees it too. Ernest says he has to disappear or stage his death. Then the comatose dude perks up to say something, but then he screams, falls dead on the counter hitting the blender and his toupet falls off. Ernest checks for a pulse and he confirms he is dead (This is in the original trailer). Toni wants to call the police but then... they decide to switch Ernest's clothes to fool Mad & Hel into thinking it's him.
Mad and Hel meet eachother in the foyer and are clueless... until they see the liquor cart... and they realise Ernest is at thr bar. They run for the door.
Outside the bar there's cops and they wheel out 'Ernest's' dead covered body. Toni confirms it's Ernest to the cop but then Mad & Hel arrive. Madeline want's to see Ernest's body (find the potion). Ernest is in the alley in the drunks clothes with the potion in his hands. Madeline slowly pulls the sheet away... Toni is desperate and then Ernest throws the potion to her in a comedic fashion. Toni distracts Mad and Hel (dropping the sheet) with the vial and Helen pulls it from Toni's unwilling hand. The cop asks Mad if she is done with the identification and she confirms it's Ernest. The cop shrugs, tells her she has to identify him officially at the morgue later anyway. She thinks back of her experience there earlier... and tells him she'll send someone. The ladies realise it's just the two of them and look at eachother with grimaces walking away from the scene. Ernest and Toni have met up at the bar's entrance and watch the women walk away. Ernest is bummed he can't expose the cult anymore but Toni tells him the women will get what they deserve as Ernest looks into the sky.
      27 years later
Mad & Hel still look stunning, sitting on a balcony of a beautiful hotel located in Switzerland (they actually filmed it there at Park Hotel Vitznau). They are talking about going to other places, but they seem extremely bored... as they look into the park they see an old couple. Madeline ridicules them, but Helen finds the couple endearing and looks at them with longing. The couple sits down on the grass with their food and are still very much in love. The old man covers the old ladies hand with his still young hand... It's Ernest and Toni. Hel & Mad look at them as we zoom in on their faces the movie slowly fades to black but for a slight second we see skulls superimposed flashing on the screen. The end.
Because a big chunk of the 3rd act and ending was cut they decided to make the movie more "quirky" and fast paced. The moral subplot was completely removed resulting in other big scenes being cut as well.
These are 2 big scenes that got removed before Mad is being spraypainted by Ernest on the pooltable:
After Ernest has picked up the formaldehyde Ernest drives to Helen's hotel, so Helen floors it and just makes it there in time before Ernest. She almost hits a Valet and crashes into a luggage cart. Inside she shoves the evidence of her Mad obsession into another room... Helen and Ernest try to come up with a plan B but Ernest is all confused and so is Helen resulting in hilarious insinuations. Ernest leaves Helen and we see she has again torn her hand open with a hankerchief. This scene is very good and connects to another scene in the morning where the maid is getting into the kitchen and finds a mess on the floor and then finds Madeline stuck in the freezer. She goes to Ernest (Morning Rose... is it up yet? Yes sirrrr... it's... in the fridge!!!) and Ernest panicks, comes up with Madeline just trying another desperate beauty treatment attempt...("She read about it in a magazine!")... Ernest drags Madeline from the freezer (this is also in the trailer), having her play along ("Put some avocado on your face or something!")... after Mad has finally made it to the stairs Ernest decides to fire Rose... when she is gone... Ernest pulls Mad up the stairs and promises her he will make her look beautiful again... his masterpiece!
A dead priest on a slab in the morgue slamming into Ernest's butt, a funny scene with Helen shopping for the hardware to bury Mad, Lisle telling Ernest her real age (600 years old) and that she killed Shakespeare and others for refusing the potion, her arriving at the spring party telling a cheap joke, Madeline not wanting to go to the bookparty because of Ernest (who cut himself shaving and wearing a boring suit) where all removed too.

Seems like people completely miss the point of the movie: it’s a critique of cosmetic surgery culture, about embracing change, aging, and growing up

Can definitely see that side as well! To me it read more as the patriarchal expectations women are under, and the behaviours and relationships that form in that context, but I can see other takeaways from it for sure

I really liked your reaction video. If you're looking for any movies along a similar campy vein, I'd recommend She-Devil (another Meryl Streep movie) Clue, or a real classic, The Women(1939) starring camp queens Rosalind Russell and Joan Crawford.
