    Type 4 tape is not always the best. It depends on the sound you are recording and the tapedeck you are using. Type 4 tape can be complicated to erase. For me good type 2 is the way to go. But for real “tape” sound go for good type 1 tape and a good vintage tape deck. Like Sony ES, Aiwa, Pioneer, Technics etc..
    The best sounding and recording tapedeck for me is the Sony TC K950ES but is very expensive and rare.
    Nakamichi Dragon is also very nice and pleasant to use, but it needs a lot of service to operate it’s a complicated machine, but in my ears the Sony TC-K950ES sounds better (I like direct drive and the sound of the laseramorphous head) and needs less service.

      Non Sono d'accordo io possiedo un Nakamichi Dragon, sarò fortunato io ma è una macchina straordinaria registra e suona in modo spettacolare, e non gli faccio nulla da tempo memore.

      Type 4 tapes can also lack bass, but do have very good treble :)

    The old type 1s were not good but became better and better over the years so did chromes. In the 70s both types had disavantages,that's why type 3 came arround but disappeared when ferro and chrome cassettes improved. Metal tapes are the best but were a bit expensive. In the 80s and 90s, 90% i bought were chromes. Only ferro tapes i bought in the 80s were Fuji Dr's that sounded good on my deck. Most tapes are SA,XL2,UX,UXS, sure other brands sounded good too.Have some SKC's QX and they sound good too. About these tapes....i wanted to buy 10 cassettes and ask the seller a box thinking it contained 10 cassettes but after returning to my home i discovered there were 12 cassette in the SKC box. strange the seller didn't tell me, must have been convinced there were 10 cassettes in the box too.

      Type III did NOT disappear because I and II improved, the III s improved as well.
      No, the real reason III disappeared was the advent of type IV, these were even better and more important even, much cheaper to manufacture. Moreover, having so many different types on the marked was too complicated, that is why III was dropped.

  • @baboo6153
    @baboo6153 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Very less recording devices support type IIII recording, and causing the sound will become very "thin sound" on the type IIII metal tape. So type II is the first choice.

    $80 to $90? Wow. I remember when these were THE medium used for nearly all consumer audio. They were always cheap and you could buy them anywhere. Sigh…I miss the 80’s. LOL!

    Chrome cassettes were my go to, TDK, FUJI, SONY. Dub a CD over on Dolby C sounded great. I had some metal ones but they were too expensive.

  • @halmiller1726

    Commercially recorded tapes really vary from cheap to very good.. Some are very good type II recorded in Dolby B but with Normal EQ of 120 microseconds instead of 70 microseconds to be played on any tape deck or player. The darker tapes are the better ones. I've been using mostly TDK SA C90 type II for years. You seem to have to buy used or new old stock now. They seem to be making only new type I normal tapes now, but the major brands like TDK are making the new superferrics type I tapes that are very good with "high output" advertised now. The TDK D series and Maxwell type I are really nice now. They're not the cheap type I tapes anymore like Radio Shack or made in Mexico tapes (some were know as type zero. they sucked).

    • @guerrillaradio9953
      @guerrillaradio9953 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where are you finding new TDK superferrics??? I'm willing to try some and see. I bought a few tapes from TapeLine in 2021 they advertised as being superferrics thinking it was bs, but lo and behold, they took +6db peaks and+3db solid no problem and sound fantastic. TapeLine claimed it was a new tape they had gotten hold of, but wouldn't tell me more, and stopped offering it (unfortunately, although the RTM tape is quite good, it's not to the level of whatever THAT is). I'm wondering if it's being manufactured again in China and possibly TDK has bought exclusive rights to buying it up?? Curious 🤨

      Towards the end of the days of cassettes, A&M released some Type II tapes that were biased for Tape I. One of the tapes was "Synchronicity" by The Police. It seemed like they were putting more effort into making a quality pre-recorded cassette.

  • @Solitaire001
    @Solitaire001 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I found that Type II tapes are the best in most situations. To me, the addition cost of Type IV tapes is not worth it.
    One unofficial type of tape to mention is Type 0. These are the extremely cheap tapes that you'd often find in a three-pack without cases in non-audio stores. Basically, they're low quality (I'd heard that some used video tape) and could potentially damage your deck/player. Once I found out about them I only used name-brand tapes.

    Cassettes mean A lot to me......A lot.
    A lot of my own History is connected to it. But I still stay on Vinyl....mostly because of the Coverartwork and the whole Ritual playing LPs.

Any Medium to High End Cassette Deck with Manual/Automatic Bias/Azimuth Calibration Features would make Excellent Recordings So Long As Peak Levels were Keep Just Slightly Above Zero (Red on Led Meter aka Distortion)....Almost No Rack System Sold In Dept Stores Of the 70s & 80s had Any Components worth 2 Nickles in Quality or Features....As For Blank Tapes ...Maxell, TDK, Sony, BASF, Fuji, Denon were probably most Popular and Widely Available in USA with Chrome Bias most Popular Choice.

    Dude I loved the Chrome and Metal tapes when making my mix tapes and reggae dubs. They were the best if you wanted crisper sounds. One thing I always learned is try not to touch tape strip with your fingers cause your prints can muffle the sound and you have to record it over again.

      And the fact that development stopped in the early 80s already. Had they been developed further they could have been amazing. Also, decks which have the proper switch to be able to record on type III are quite rare and older models.
