Can I say how refreshing this channel is you, tekking and morj are my Holy Trinity of reviews (and Artur and bestguyever) and outside of best guy ever who can be overly critical I think you are consistently the right level of critical. Also you've made me feel better about deciding hey I'm not going to do a review this week because I just don't feel like there's enough to talk about or that I want to talk about. Completely agree this is a stall Fest that's not to say one piece is bad or anything but clear consequence of being a Weekly Reader is pushing through this because with one piece the hole is often greater than the sum of its parts and I think that'll be no different with this situation. I forgot to mention this in my review but I also think that there is something to be said about the parallel of Frankie debuting hockey in this chapter and Emeth having the best haki feat this chapter by not only being able to damage but break Warcurys tusk a feat Luffy can't even do in gear 5

Maybe it’s because of it’s lenght, and that at this moment, I’m having other important issues with my life that I prefer to put my time into, so I appreciate your analysis, be it critical or not. So I was correct, Oda wanted to put boobs on Nika form Luffy thus the Nika'ish "totally free" future of Bonney. Because other than boobage she is just a copy paste of Luffy in that form, even the face. Not to mention, NO Franky did not use haki. Just as everyone and their grandmother's has pointed out; the only ones using haki are Sanji and Bonney which you can see with the blackened fist/foot. But Franky has no such thing, HOWEVER he did call his punch *impact* strong right so I think we can all assume that he built in an impact dial to add some oumph to this hits.
I think we already know the time travel element, yet to come. The key is JoyBoy's letter to the fisherman, saying he's sorry and will come back later… who says that? Not fighets going to a battle, not unless they already know they can't win… but if they can't win back then, why would 800 years later be any better? My theory is that the Strawhats will need to go back to get or find something. They meet JoyBoy (creating the letter as a consequence), and JoyBoy creates a plan (poneglyphs) to help. Too crazy?
The power that vega punk is searching for is JOY! That's what powers the giant when you see nika you get joyfull and thus 200 years ago the joy the fishmen expressed at being recognized awoke the giant that was on that junk yard in the red line and it got powered up.
In my opinion the main problem is that Oda once again can't stick the landing of an arc. He wrote a very good leadup to the climax of the arc and then - just like in most previous arcs - he drags it out and adds tons of unnecessary stuff for no reason whatsoever. The progress of the last 10 chapters could've been shown in only 2 or 3 chapters. It's not even an exaggeration - the only real progress in those 10 chapters was Vegapunk's announcement that the world is sinking. That's it. Outside of that the story is almost in the exact same place it was 10 chapters ago. Arcs like Dressrosa (50 chapters birdcage), WCI (30 chapters "weeeedddiiiiiing caaaakeeee" escape) and Wano (80 chapter raid) had the exact same pacing problem in their later stages.

He's been on record multiple times saying that the reason the story is so long is because he just has so much fun creating random stuff. Remember the manga was only supposed to be like 100 chapters long 😂 . He is quite literally creating his own pacing issues😂
great video as always! I did want to bring up 2 things - 1. Katakuri was able to replicate Luffy's elephant gun attack with infusing his mochi and haki, so I think its possible devil fruits can learn or copy other abilities to a certain degree. 2. The 5 elders, idk what the hell their deal is, but I think at some point they must have been human or mortal of some degree because they all have scars. Either they're organic based lifeforms that got power ups and eventually beecame something else, or if they're projections of Imu, could be representative of Imu's own appearance since we've only seen him as a shadow silhouette
A problem with the time-travelling to the past is that it takes away the freedom of choice. Since it already happened, Bonney and Luffy would be "forced" to travel to the past and activate the robot. On the other hand, if you leave them their freedom of choice, you get into a whole lot of logical problems. E. g. if they decide not to activate the robot in the past, it would change the whole past since that point in time.
I see hella people saying franky has haki which isn’t true. We see bonney has haki on her arm before she attacks but Franky clearly doesn’t in the panel. I think luffy meant sanji and bonney was using haki not franky. If oda revealed Franky learn haki offscreen with 0 hints prior, that’s bad writing if I compare his awakening to usopp obs haki during dressrosa.
I was rewatching beginning of Jaya, when Nami reads Noland's 400yo journal about Sky islands and Skyfish, Usopp remarks "It seems like Sky Islands were pretty much a normal thing for people back then" Makes me think even more that the Sky Islands are gonna be Lore Heavy with past events, not necessarily the void century, but even before that.
Time travel is one of those things I dont like being added to stories if its already established alot of stuff. Like with kingdom hearts, it was scattered lore with some confusing story, than time travel is introduced officially later on making me roll my eyes at it. People can like these stories, but I find it can ruin/take away from it too. Itd be like if all of a sudden multiverses come into play and an evil luffy shows up with evil crew. Sounds ok in theory but idk if everyone would jump in glee for it. The mirror of Black Beard Crew vs Luffy crew has a more creative approach to it ultimately.
I don't think Oda is planning to do a Boruto with One Piece. But what he wants is that on the Epilogue of the series, Luffy gives his hat to someone, just like Shanks gave the hat to him. And i think Oda is seriously considering Bonney to be the one that inherit the hat.
From what I've seen in the fandom. It seems to be people not liking the fact that it takes away from Luffy's character. Gear 5 was a power up that was supposed to be an incredibly unique ability ever written in a Shonen manga. It's literally a power up that gives you the ability of a cartoon. Giving that ability to someone like Bonney who is just a side character was a little too much. No one was saying that this didn't make sense. Oda had been hinting that since the beginning of the arc. If there were ppl saying that this didn't make sense then they are wrong. The majority of the fanbase were complaining that it was taking away from Luffy and diminishing what gear 5 represented. It doesn't matter if Bonney can't last long or whatever. It still takes away gear 5 uniqueness. And if Bonney can simply transfer that ability to whoever then yeah of course ppl are gonna have issues with it.
I Sawyer, always a better sunday when you give your insights! I don't think traveling to the past is a good idea and I think Oda is the same opinion (Toki and Bonney powers). Placing the giant into the past would create a time loop for him or a parallel universe and it would be easy to have a plot hole. I think the giant was sent 600 years to the future by Toki and quickly turned off because it didn't sense Joyboy.
That explains Why the Straw-hat is such an enigma, because someone with one made a ruckus out of Nowhere, Imu and the Five elders clearly are cautious of a time traveling devil fruit hence why they appear in a very hyper specific moments, they wouldn’t want to be in a time traveling pincer attack. I think that’s where the story is going
We also have Zoro and his ancestor in Wano. You gave me an idea what the D. stands for and how its related to this time travel. We know that the character and skills of a person are saved in their genes and can be replicated. In story also exists the theme of characters in the past beeing similiar to those today, like Joyboy, Roger and Luffy. What if the D. stands for Doppelgänger? All the D.s have some dominant genes, making them different versions of basically the same person, like different timeline versions. Those with similiar enough genes then can take the place or fuse with someone in the future/past with the help of Bonney. This can also work with Blackbeard. The leading theorie is, that he is multible people in 1 body. His Doppelgänger Xebec could have tried to travel into the future with the help of his treasure that got stolen by the WG and fused with Teach.
200 Years ago, Emeth awakened, climbed the redline and attacked Mary Geoise. I can think of a few situatios: 1- Assuming there have been multiple users of the Nika fruit, there could have been one 200 years ago that succeeded in helping the fishmen and did Awaken the fruit in their last moments but the elders were oblivious to it (Could've also been an actual Fishman that ate the fruit, making it harder for the government to know as well). P.S If there were multiple users, maybe each had their own goal to achieve throughout the centuries until the time came for Luffy to put an end to it all. 2- Your very own video right now about a time travelling help 3- Emeth awakened upon hearing the fishmen celebrate after they gained their rights (I read this on a comment) Also where was Emeth 200 years ago before it climbed the wall? If Emeth was to climb the redline 800 years ago but ran out of energy , then he remained underwater until he heard the drums again and proceeded to continue doing his mission. We know that emeth can't hear the drums from everywhere, otherwise he would've awakened when G5 was introduced, so Nika and the drums had to be THERE. (Time traveling could be it, as you said)

Exactly. We're at a point in time for the story to really start crushing fan agendas one by one. One Piece is so long people have developed strong biases on how they THINK the story will play out, but when Oda doesn't play along they'll get upset. I've learned to never set a hard expectation for anything in One Piece. 9 times out of 10 Oda does something way better than anything I could've conceived

I love this idea but am still trying to "think like Oda", and fit this into the overall narrative, and how them going in the past in this way would push the current story forward. It would be like a post-arc, first time sailing on the sunny after whooping ass again moment - where maybe Luffy & Bonney have that moment together. After Egghead Luffy 100000% has to transform to Nika, in-jest, for the giant-bros, so they can see their god again, like friends asking another to do a cool trick, showing off and just having a dope time. Maybe that triggers something w/ Bonney unintentionally, she gets flooded w memories again and the post-fight dopamine-drop, and something happens between them. The fate of Emeth as it stands now also will have a huge role to play - especially with this last 1121 chapter - Love the idea but only ~time will tell. Love your work, Nakama!
This Bonnie moment, I believe, was the literal point of the character. Her power depends on imagination and Luffy is the god of imation, this moment with Bonnie was to lead to the crew's understanding that laughing is contagious, and enhances imagination, and that's Nika's true power: to create a literal army of Nikas. And… don't call me nuts… but I still the Kaido and Big Mom "death" extremely suspicious. I find their story arc lacking, maybe that's the problem… but Luffy can uniquely satisfy both the "old yonkos" dream. I think Yamato will find them, and maybe it was Pluton that save them, and then they protected Pluton…?! Anyway, they're pretty much the best fighters, thus best teachers "our" side could have.
I remember a long time ago, I left a comment on (I think this channel) that I thought it'd be funny if Luffy got time travel abilities with his awakening/gear5. Making the timeline "rubbery" and malleable (to change). Him being the igniting factor to other stuff and things seems like it may be kinda real. Sus stuff for sure.
It sounds great, but... the natural question would be what other past events can Luffy and Bonney influence? And that can quickly slip into plot hole issues. It's a great thing to consider though - what enabled Emmet 200 years ago? I think the time travel theory needs more fine-tuning to avoid these plot hole issues.
I wonder if the One Piece or Laugh Tale is the actual story of Joyboy. Like a book by him or his followers and when the actual story of One Piece ends, Oda will start a spin off of the story of Joyboy. So the physical One Piece is actually something we’ll be able to read.

It would be criminal not to have Franky use armament haki on his little baby hand in his palm. Can you imagine how silly that would look if the strong right became a shoving attack and came with a tiny little armament infused fist I always kind of figured post time-skip that the wapolmetal Franky used gives him roughly the same durability as standard armament haki (think blueno or vice admiral level). He obviously has a lot of will, so I don't think he _can't_ , I think he just doesn't really see a need for it. If I had a Shogun and laser beams and light generating nipples I wouldn't really bother too much with unlocking haki. Most people/situations/problems can be solved using the weapons Franky has built.
I see what you're saying lol. I mean we're past that point in this story. If Oda wants his characters to have armament, they will obtain it. He'll likely find a creative way of justifying it, but he also may not. It seems there's more important things to him at this moment.
I still think the Gorosei are the ones who are originally from the One Piece world and the ‘Gods’ came from somewhere else and messed it up. The Gods made the df which is why sea water is against them because they are not naturally from this world. Similar to how many fruits today are man-made.

Bonney has no connection to the fishmen, why would she go back in time to help them. I can see why she wouldn't go back in time to save her mom or Kuma, because of Flask Point, But also, Oda said that time travel to the past is not possible, don't see him going back on that. I most likely see him coming up with another explanation to explain why the Iron Giant was awaken 200 years ago like he always does.

So I was correct, Oda wanted to put boobs on Nika form Luffy thus the Nika'ish "totally free" future of Bonney.
Because other than boobage she is just a copy paste of Luffy in that form, even the face.
Not to mention, NO Franky did not use haki. Just as everyone and their grandmother's has pointed out; the only ones using haki are Sanji and Bonney which you can see with the blackened fist/foot. But Franky has no such thing, HOWEVER he did call his punch *impact* strong right so I think we can all assume that he built in an impact dial to add some oumph to this hits.

I think we already know the time travel element, yet to come. The key is JoyBoy's letter to the fisherman, saying he's sorry and will come back later… who says that? Not fighets going to a battle, not unless they already know they can't win… but if they can't win back then, why would 800 years later be any better?
My theory is that the Strawhats will need to go back to get or find something. They meet JoyBoy (creating the letter as a consequence), and JoyBoy creates a plan (poneglyphs) to help.

The power that vega punk is searching for is JOY! That's what powers the giant when you see nika you get joyfull and thus 200 years ago the joy the fishmen expressed at being recognized awoke the giant that was on that junk yard in the red line and it got powered up.
In my opinion the main problem is that Oda once again can't stick the landing of an arc.
He wrote a very good leadup to the climax of the arc and then - just like in most previous arcs - he drags it out and adds tons of unnecessary stuff for no reason whatsoever.
The progress of the last 10 chapters could've been shown in only 2 or 3 chapters.
It's not even an exaggeration - the only real progress in those 10 chapters was Vegapunk's announcement that the world is sinking.
That's it. Outside of that the story is almost in the exact same place it was 10 chapters ago.
Arcs like Dressrosa (50 chapters birdcage), WCI (30 chapters "weeeedddiiiiiing caaaakeeee" escape) and Wano (80 chapter raid) had the exact same pacing problem in their later stages.

He's been on record multiple times saying that the reason the story is so long is because he just has so much fun creating random stuff. great video as always! I did want to bring up 2 things - 1. Katakuri was able to replicate Luffy's elephant gun attack with infusing his mochi and haki, so I think its possible devil fruits can learn or copy other abilities to a certain degree. 2. The 5 elders, idk what the hell their deal is, but I think at some point they must have been human or mortal of some degree because they all have scars. Either they're organic based lifeforms that got power ups and eventually beecame something else, or if they're projections of Imu, could be representative of Imu's own appearance since we've only seen him as a shadow silhouette

A problem with the time-travelling to the past is that it takes away the freedom of choice. Since it already happened, Bonney and Luffy would be "forced" to travel to the past and activate the robot. On the other hand, if you leave them their freedom of choice, you get into a whole lot of logical problems. E. g. if they decide not to activate the robot in the past, it would change the whole past since that point in time.

I see hella people saying franky has haki which isn’t true. We see bonney has haki on her arm before she attacks but Franky clearly doesn’t in the panel. I think luffy meant sanji and bonney was using haki not franky. If oda revealed Franky learn haki offscreen with 0 hints prior, that’s bad writing if I compare his awakening to usopp obs haki during dressrosa.
I was rewatching beginning of Jaya, when Nami reads Noland's 400yo journal about Sky islands and Skyfish, Usopp remarks "It seems like Sky Islands were pretty much a normal thing for people back then" Makes me think even more that the Sky Islands are gonna be Lore Heavy with past events, not necessarily the void century, but even before that.

Time travel is one of those things I dont like being added to stories if its already established alot of stuff.
Like with kingdom hearts, it was scattered lore with some confusing story, than time travel is introduced officially later on making me roll my eyes at it.
People can like these stories, but I find it can ruin/take away from it too. Itd be like if all of a sudden multiverses come into play and an evil luffy shows up with evil crew. Sounds ok in theory but idk if everyone would jump in glee for it. The mirror of Black Beard Crew vs Luffy crew has a more creative approach to it ultimately.

From what I've seen in the fandom. It seems to be people not liking the fact that it takes away from Luffy's character. Gear 5 was a power up that was supposed to be an incredibly unique ability ever written in a Shonen manga. It's literally a power up that gives you the ability of a cartoon. Giving that ability to someone like Bonney who is just a side character was a little too much.
No one was saying that this didn't make sense. Oda had been hinting that since the beginning of the arc. If there were ppl saying that this didn't make sense then they are wrong. The majority of the fanbase were complaining that it was taking away from Luffy and diminishing what gear 5 represented.
It doesn't matter if Bonney can't last long or whatever. It still takes away gear 5 uniqueness. And if Bonney can simply transfer that ability to whoever then yeah of course ppl are gonna have issues with it.
I think part of the point of joyboy is that he spreads his joy to others. So I think other people will have nika like powers.

I Sawyer, always a better sunday when you give your insights! I don't think traveling to the past is a good idea and I think Oda is the same opinion (Toki and Bonney powers). Placing the giant into the past would create a time loop for him or a parallel universe and it would be easy to have a plot hole. I think the giant was sent 600 years to the future by Toki and quickly turned off because it didn't sense Joyboy.
That explains Why the Straw-hat is such an enigma, because someone with one made a ruckus out of Nowhere, Imu and the Five elders clearly are cautious of a time traveling devil fruit hence why they appear in a very hyper specific moments, they wouldn’t want to be in a time traveling pincer attack. I think that’s where the story is going
We also have Zoro and his ancestor in Wano. You gave me an idea what the D. stands for and how its related to this time travel.
We know that the character and skills of a person are saved in their genes and can be replicated. In story also exists the theme of characters in the past beeing similiar to those today, like Joyboy, Roger and Luffy. What if the D. stands for Doppelgänger? All the D.s have some dominant genes, making them different versions of basically the same person, like different timeline versions. Those with similiar enough genes then can take the place or fuse with someone in the future/past with the help of Bonney. This can also work with Blackbeard.
The leading theorie is, that he is multible people in 1 body. His Doppelgänger Xebec could have tried to travel into the future with the help of his treasure that got stolen by the WG and fused with Teach.
200 Years ago, Emeth awakened, climbed the redline and attacked Mary Geoise. I can think of a few situatios:
1- Assuming there have been multiple users of the Nika fruit, there could have been one 200 years ago that succeeded in helping the fishmen and did Awaken the fruit in their last moments but the elders were oblivious to it (Could've also been an actual Fishman that ate the fruit, making it harder for the government to know as well). P.S If there were multiple users, maybe each had their own goal to achieve throughout the centuries until the time came for Luffy to put an end to it all.

3- Emeth awakened upon hearing the fishmen celebrate after they gained their rights (I read this on a comment)
Also where was Emeth 200 years ago before it climbed the wall? If Emeth was to climb the redline 800 years ago but ran out of energy , then he remained underwater until he heard the drums again and proceeded to continue doing his mission. We know that emeth can't hear the drums from everywhere, otherwise he would've awakened when G5 was introduced, so Nika and the drums had to be THERE. (Time traveling could be it, as you said)

Exactly. We're at a point in time for the story to really start crushing fan agendas one by one. One Piece is so long people have developed strong biases on how they THINK the story will play out, but when Oda doesn't play along they'll get upset.
I've learned to never set a hard expectation for anything in One Piece. 9 times out of 10 Oda does something way better than anything I could've conceived

I love this idea but am still trying to "think like Oda", and fit this into the overall narrative, and how them going in the past in this way would push the current story forward. It would be like a post-arc, first time sailing on the sunny after whooping ass again moment - where maybe Luffy & Bonney have that moment together. After Egghead Luffy 100000% has to transform to Nika, in-jest, for the giant-bros, so they can see their god again, like friends asking another to do a cool trick, showing off and just having a dope time. Maybe that triggers something w/ Bonney unintentionally, she gets flooded w memories again and the post-fight dopamine-drop, and something happens between them. The fate of Emeth as it stands now also will have a huge role to play - especially with this last 1121 chapter -

This Bonnie moment, I believe, was the literal point of the character. Her power depends on imagination and Luffy is the god of imation, this moment with Bonnie was to lead to the crew's understanding that laughing is contagious, and enhances imagination, and that's Nika's true power: to create a literal army of Nikas.
And… don't call me nuts… but I still the Kaido and Big Mom "death" extremely suspicious. I find their story arc lacking, maybe that's the problem… but Luffy can uniquely satisfy both the "old yonkos" dream. I think Yamato will find them, and maybe it was Pluton that save them, and then they protected Pluton…?! Anyway, they're pretty much the best fighters, thus best teachers "our" side could have.

I remember a long time ago, I left a comment on (I think this channel) that I thought it'd be funny if Luffy got time travel abilities with his awakening/gear5. Making the timeline "rubbery" and malleable (to change). Him being the igniting factor to other stuff and things seems like it may be kinda real. Sus stuff for sure.
It sounds great, but... the natural question would be what other past events can Luffy and Bonney influence? And that can quickly slip into plot hole issues.
It's a great thing to consider though - what enabled Emmet 200 years ago? I think the time travel theory needs more fine-tuning to avoid these plot hole issues.

It would be criminal not to have Franky use armament haki on his little baby hand in his palm. Can you imagine how silly that would look if the strong right became a shoving attack and came with a tiny little armament infused fist
I always kind of figured post time-skip that the wapolmetal Franky used gives him roughly the same durability as standard armament haki (think blueno or vice admiral level). He obviously has a lot of will, so I don't think he _can't_ , I think he just doesn't really see a need for it. If I had a Shogun and laser beams and light generating nipples I wouldn't really bother too much with unlocking haki. Most people/situations/problems can be solved using the weapons Franky has built.
Nami is going to use armament next chapter. Shes been in the story a long time and deserves it. Validation complete

I still think the Gorosei are the ones who are originally from the One Piece world and the ‘Gods’ came from somewhere else and messed it up. The Gods made the df which is why sea water is against them because they are not naturally from this world. Similar to how many fruits today are man-made.
