I really, really like this kid. I've been around since Moses was a pup, so I've heard my share of country music. Johnson has a lot of country in his soul. It bleeds through in almost all of his songs.
Jamey is absolutely on fire in GA!!! Can't stop at a red light without hearing him. Just shows how hungry people are for real country music instead of all this bull-shit you hear on the radio.
One of my single favorite performances of all time. Unequaled song writing, raw soul, the epitome of country music. Jamey Johnson is the most underrated artists of all time, right up there with David Allen Coe.
Man every time I have a few beers and get onto my You tube channel this is the first song I go to and then I hit repeat on it. Gotta lov it ,I know it's not just me!
man this the first time i have heard of him ..wow takes me back to listening to outlaw country .....country that they wouldn't play on the radio when I was young
I think he a GREAT song writer, he writes about stuff we can all relate to, and the TRUTH.. He is able to articulate what most of us are thinking like High Cost Of Living. And great singer TOO!!!
this IS what country damn well should be,loved the lonesome song album, and the guitar song album is one cool ass concept, first time i heard this song i fliped,of course it'll never get played on main stream radio cause ther aint one pop note on it, and there aint some damn blonde in shorts shaking her ass singing it,in a word it's REAL.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this -- I'm watching, listening to the lyrics, and thinking, "What the hell are they laughing about?" I wonder what Jamey thought as he was singing this....
I listen to this song every day, in todays economy it hits home with hard workin', broke Americans like us! This song isn't supposed to be funny, yall are right, we do what we have to do to feed the hungry mouths around the house!
If you like Jamey you need to check out Jackson Taylor and the Sinners. They kick ass and have opened for Jamey on several occasions. Jamey and Jackson are true outlaw country.
The rooster line is the second one in the song. Jamey has a great sense of humor, so the audience probably had no clue where he was going with it. It's a funny line at face value. By the time that they reach the part about the plants, I think it is meant for a little levity while still getting the point across.
Great song.. but y is everyone laughing? I know there all drunk and whatnot. But this song is so poetic and passionate. U can almost feel his pain or well hell if Ur living in hard times.u can feel Ur own pain like someone put u under a microscope. This is what true country is all bout. Passion and love and heartache. And u can actually feel and understand the words unlike that hip hop shit that the general public is buying into
This song is awesome as is J Johnson but he surely wrote it to get a laugh and the audience totally got it...very cool stuff..I bet if you hung with him he wouldn't say much but when he does he's the funniest guy in the room-very dry wit...
@dixiebloodhound black: 1.lonely at the top 2. cover your eyes 3. poor mans blues 4. set em up joe 5. playing th part 6. baby dont cry 7. heaven bound 8. cant cash my checks 9. thats how i dont love you 10. heartache 11. mental revenge 12. even the skies are blue
I think they're laughing at his phrasing it is a song writters festival so they probably hadn't heard the song before. I think the laughter is reasonable, you can even see he enjoy's their enjoyment of the song.
@dixiebloodhound white: 1. by the seat of your pants 2.california riots3dog in the yard.4the guitar song.5thats why i write song.6.macon7thankful for the rain.8.good morning sunrise9.front porch swing afternoon10i remember you.11.good times aint what they used to be12.for the good times13. my way to you
This song is on his new CD. It completely annoys me that people are laughing through this song as if it's humorous. This song was written for the American Farmer. It's heart wrenching in my opinion, not funny.
I love the song. but the part about honesty not paying off is not the truth. if your honesty is not paying off then your are not surrounding yourself with the right people.
I really, really like this kid. I've been around since Moses was a pup, so I've heard my share of country music. Johnson has a lot of country in his soul. It bleeds through in almost all of his songs.
Eric Church said we need a country music Jesus...Hot damn boys I think we found him! Preach on Jamey
There is no one in country music that can truely say they sing country music but for one man JAMEY JOHNSON!!!!!
Jamey is absolutely on fire in GA!!! Can't stop at a red light without hearing him. Just shows how hungry people are for real country music instead of all this bull-shit you hear on the radio.
He is the best thing to hit country music in the past couple of decades!
It is the audience's reaction that makes this version the best version.
Man, Jamey is country music today. Truthful and heartfelt. Not premade and bullshitting words.
One of my single favorite performances of all time. Unequaled song writing, raw soul, the epitome of country music. Jamey Johnson is the most underrated artists of all time, right up there with David Allen Coe.
Jamey is one of a kind - the kind that speaks us regular people's language. A big ol' amen to your post, charlieohms!
People like Jamey is why country music is around, not the pop country junk mostly on the radio.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this -- I'm watching, listening to the lyrics, and thinking, "What the hell are they laughing about?" I wonder what Jamey thought as he was singing this....

The rooster line is the second one in the song. Jamey has a great sense of humor, so the audience probably had no clue where he was going with it. It's a funny line at face value. This song is on his new CD. It completely annoys me that people are laughing through this song as if it's humorous. This song was written for the American Farmer. It's heart wrenching in my opinion, not funny.
Lol yep so im leaving
@BruceDeuce72 I'm a chick. :-)
Great song! I guess i don't see the humor in the song that the crowd does.
I love the song. but the part about honesty not paying off is not the truth. if your honesty is not paying off then your are not surrounding yourself with the right people.
Funny, how they laughed at the "need to feed him" line. Those are not country folk in the audience. I'd bet it on that one observation.
