Very kind of you, Drew, to have gotten these two packages safely off the neighbor's front stoop before they were taken by porch pirates! I have the Xtool D1 10W and love it. Most of us that have built a custom enclosure have tossed the orange shield. It's not needed with the enclosure, and it actually gets in the way more often than not. I have all the other bits and bobs that you can add to the machine, greatly increasing it's versatility. The Xtool is a great machine - the only thing that appears lacking is the customer support (see online forums for feedback on that)
Yeah, that was one category I decided not to test. Understandably, there will be a language barrier and a response time issue since it's all coming from China. But with how wide their customer base is, usually you can find answers on online forums and that sort of thing

man, I am 4 minutes in and I really hope you do way more tool review/comparison videos. You just seem to understand my sense of humor and this was one of the best review videos Ive ever seen
That is by far the best rating system I’ve ever seen. It should be the standard! I’ve got an xtool d1 (10w) and I really like it. One other feature they have is leg extensions. They’re extra cylinders that screw into the existing legs that let you raise the tray up. These are extremely helpful in case anyone needs to engrave on thicker work pieces.
I usual skip over the laser reviews as I am not in that area yet but I truly enjoy your videos so I watched it all the way through. Thank you for your help. Not really sure what I want just yet as I have many ideas how to incorporate them.
A couple of years ago I built myself a CNC mill as a proof of concept. I used that little CNC mill to build me a much bigger CNC mill. It’s been about 5 years now that I’ve been designing and milling to my heart’s content. This year I’m going to use the knowledge and lessons learnt over the years to me my own 100W CO2 CNC (freaking) laser.
One of the best, most entertaining reviews of this machine. Accesories you can buy after are pretty irrelevant. You can buy all of the accessories, like air assist or extraction, from loads of places. The stuff they give you with the machine is worth considering, but to be honest they are peanuts. And with the X Tool still at around $1300 while the Atezr is $680 that's a lot of test materials. So the rest of the test, fair enough. But the accessories section just seems way off, even allowinf for the fact that the Atezr cost more at the time of the review. The extra $150 for the X Tool air assist still buys all those materials they give you, and a lot more. And there is bound to be an upgrade module for the Atezr, if there isn't at the time of writing. Clear winner here, in all but aethetics, very subjective, is the Atezr.
Yeah, it was definitely my favorite. After filming this video, I sold the xTool immediately and used the ATEZR for quite a while. Since then, I've given it to a friend and now use the IKIER (seen in a more recent video)
Excellent comparison of the two. I appreciate how you abandoned both the metric and the imperial system in favor of the Fisher system. Much more intuitive. These units both look great. I have a much cheaper, 5w, system for making wooden signs and other doo dads that I sell at my camp store. These things have certainly come a long way and they keep getting easier to use. Thank you. I really found that interesting as laser engravers are just starting to become popular here in Australia and I thought about one for sign making. My problem is I’m a computer Neanderthal and getting on in age just a bit to go too deep into that area. My other grey area is my workshop is under my home and I understand laser burning with timber causes odour issues!
Great review comparison. The air assist could be the deal maker for some, that's $150 worth of other upgrades, go toward building your own fume extraction cabinet, consumables. The air hose issue is easily solved with a length of surgical tubing. If your neighbor has one of those cheap, expanding garden hoses, that's the internal part. As soon as the hose fitting starts leaking, you get several ft of free surgical tubing.

Hey Drew I have an Xtool and just learned something there is a switch on the pcb board on the xtool that has to be flipped to allow updates maybe that switch has to be turned on so your phone will connect to the machine I'd love to know if that fixes the issue
A few things to keep in mind with these open frame laser cutters: 1) There is NOTHING for fume extraction. Whenever you're cutting or engraving, you're burning the material, and releasing whatever vapors straight into your workshop. 2) Be wary of what materials you're using, some materials, such as PVC, Formaldehyde-bonded fiberboards, etc., should never be laser cut or engraved, as they release toxic gasses when burned. Always use the machine in a well ventilated area. 3) While they claim to have flame detection, they should never be left unattended. 4) Children and pets should never be around while the machine is in use. 5) Those lasers emit a fair amount of ultraviolet radiation. They should never be operated without proper laser eye protection. That little shroud doesn't do much. I'm very skeptical of open frame laser cutters. They just seem way too dangerous. I would very much rather use an enclosed one, even though they tend to be more expensive.
Nice review, Drew~! I'll be looking at getting one of these in the near future. Great features on both. As for the air hose concern, you could "borrow" one of the vacuum lines from your neighbor's car and replace it with the xTool's line. Neighbor will appreciate the upgrade~! ;-) Thanks for the video~!
Heads up Fisher, I teach a lasercutting class and depending on your model you probably shouldn't put metal on it. Not only do some metals have coatings that shouldn't be heated health-wise, but the metal itself is reflective so it actually bounces the laser back at it's own lens which increases heat and potentially damaging it (mirror is the same). Also many plastics release harmful chemicals that can give you cancer when they're heated up. Hopefully you've already done this--but always research first before cutting!
Should have went bigger with the logo on your neighbor's car, think FREE advertising!! Loved the video. Great comparison for someone considering either machines. Thanks for having a sense of humor and sharing it.
They're both pretty much identical in LB. For the xTool you'll have to configure the offset if you want to use the crosshairs for alignment. Plus, it homes to the back-left corner instead of the front-left like the ATEZR. Other than that, they're the same.
Nice video as always. Only one thing bothers me, laser engravers should not be operated without proper ventilation or fume extraction, the vapors produced during the engraving process are harmful to health
I am still happy I DON'T live next door but I did enjoy this review except for the complete lack of software coverage. Yes, you did mention light burn and proprietary stuff with the Xtool but not what came with the Atezr. I would think that you do need to go over that part of the laser performance at some point. I realize its all new to you and you need time to use them both. I do like the air assist and overall design/construction of the Atezr but not its laser head. I don't like the air assist of the Xtool but am impressed with the software and the laser head. What I see as weaknesses in the Atezr is the visibility with the head and the extreme difficulty to clean the lens/head and glaring lack of software creativity and availability BUT the engineering design coverage is supreme. Sooooo. That leaves the real decision to the software. The Xtool engineering and build quality falls way short of the Atezr but immediate usability outshines the Atezr by miles. Back to you Mr Fisher. Draw it out Drew.
Well, I left software out of it because 99% of laser users just use Lightburn which is a completely different thing and doesn't really fall into the scope of this machine to machine comparison. The xTool has that Creative Space program, but it's pretty lame, to be honest.
I did enjoy (and laughed at) this video. Now if you had engraved a flat head screw image onto a piece of walnut, I’d have given it a 5 bionic leg rating 😃 Good work, thank you!
Great video. I am curious why you chose these two systems? There are others out there. Do you think these two are the best for this price point? Thanks
Thanks for the comparison, Drew. Have a question for you. How well do these do on hardwoods like walnt? Would a 20W laser be adequate for engraving charcuterie boards, etc.?
On a usefulness scale of flathead screws to woodpecker tools, I found this video to be entertaining and informative so I'll rank it at a pockethole jig. 🤓👍And your neighbors will be showing your logo to everyone he knows! Maybe even the police will like it!
Hey man. Love your podcast. Your voice reminds me of Arlo Guthrie, & when you were reviewing the manuals with the lasers, I was expecting to hear something like ‘27 8”x10” coloured glossy pictures, with circles ‘n arrows ‘n a paragraph on the back of each one”…
Just a heads up, I only knew about this video from listening to today's podcast episode where you mention it not getting views. I am subscribed and have notifications on, but I never got a notification about this video. Perhaps Mr algorithm is swaying your numbers. 🤷♂️
Very well done! Informative and clever humor made me wish the video was longer (I've never said that about a video before ) I'll give you 5 out of 5 Death Stars.
With connecting your device to the wifi, I quite often have issues connecting smart devices to the wifi. The trick I found was to disable the high band wifi before connecting. In the UK (not sure if it is the same in the USA) our wifi routers use 2 frequencies. 2ghz and 5ghz. Most smart devices (Amazon echos, ring doorbells, lights, etc) prefer the 2ghz. But the 5ghz confuses them. So I log into the router, disable 5ghz, connect the device as per device instructions, then restart the 5ghz. If American wifi routers are similar, then maybe try that?
Someone’s getting free tools! All about that action boss. Combined with the endless supply of free lumber from your neighbor…I’m a fan of this business model.
The actual review items were excellent. Your spreadsheet items were not. I agree with a previous commenter that numerical values would have been more appropriate. Generally I appreciate your humor but in that case not. I think if I were in the market for a laser engraver, which I am not, I would find it difficult in making a choice between these two machines. thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.😀😀
I wasn't interested in using a numerical system that would would still only show MY opinion and would ultimately show bias towards a single machine. I'd rather just show you each one and let you decide for yourself.
Hey Drew! Great video. I've been looking at the X Tool, a few other brands, and the Atezr you reviewed gave me something to think about for sure. I know your shop is in your basement (as is mine). Can you comment on fume extraction/air assist/safety with these diode lasers? Thanks!
Yeah, I run them in my garage because of the smoke. I did a couple of real quick jobs in the shop so I could film it with better light, but it didn't take long to smoke up the place.
@@FishersShop I understand that. Thanks for the insight. I hope your neighbor doesn’t steal your machines as revenge for all the times you’ve taken plywood, walnut, and other necessary materials for projects from his house while he wasn’t home. 😂
Drew, I really wish you had covered which of these frickin laser beams has the portability, power, and water-resistance I need to attach them to sharks’ frickin heads!
I am now convinced that anyone who isn't doing their tool ratings with completely meaingless 80s references is doing it wrong. Great way to keep either company from being mad at you...or maybe making both of them mad at you. Now I just wish I knew whether the Ortur was a PeeWee Herman or a Pauly Shore when compared to the Arnold or Matthew of these two. :D
I give your scientific analysis a Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park out of five: memorable one-liners and very sexy in an unbuttoned shirt. No homo, just facts.
You forgot the two most important aspects of laser cutters. _Enclosure and fume extraction._ Both systems lack all of aforementioned. The cheap open frame Lasers are in no way safe to use! Just think about it, you're burning material to fine dust particles. What does these particles do to you and your surrounding? You don't want to get them into your respiratory system. Laserlight is dangerous even reflected from surfaces and from a far. You need special glasses to be safe from it. Often are the glasses added to the kits not even suited for the wave length. You think you are safe with using them but you aren't.
Very kind of you, Drew, to have gotten these two packages safely off the neighbor's front stoop before they were taken by porch pirates! If you have a video on how to etch glass with both machines, or if you plan on doing a video etching glass it will be greatly appreciated.
Don't hold your breath. I won't be doing any more laser reviews
There are a bunch out there. There are like 10 different methods. Some are very time consuming, and messy, a couple not so much.
How necessary is fume extraction? Specifically for a basement shop. And how would you accomplish that with these machines since there is no enclosure?
I run them in my garage
build an enclosure!
Just a heads up, I only knew about this video from listening to today's podcast episode where you mention it not getting views. I am subscribed and have notifications on, but I never got a notification about this video. Perhaps Mr algorithm is swaying your numbers. 🤷♂️
Strange. Yeah, this one fell flat on its face. That could be the reason I guess.
Very well done! Informative and clever humor made me wish the video was longer (I've never said that about a video before ) I'll give you 5 out of 5 Death Stars.
Ooooooo!!! Thanks!
Yeah, I was only using 2ghz. Not sure what the issue was
Is there an advantage to these vs getting a laser for your CNC machine?
Yeah... I can put these in my garage so I don't smoke up the house.
what is the thickest piece of material it will cut threw
All depends how many passes you take. I was doing 1/4" material in a single pass. I could do 3/4" material with multiple passes.
How do they work on Gold and Silver?
I wish you covered what type of computer is need? Will they both run off Apple or PC? 21:31
Look up Lightburn and it's requirements. Pretty sure you can use whatever
@@FishersShop will do, thanks
Someone’s getting free tools! All about that action boss. Combined with the endless supply of free lumber from your neighbor…I’m a fan of this business model.
Hard work paying off. :)
@@FishersShop love ya bro. Deserve everything coming your way coz you hustle like no one else. Nothing but love for ya.
Any ill tempered sea bass?
The actual review items were excellent. Your spreadsheet items were not. I agree with a previous commenter that numerical values would have been more appropriate. Generally I appreciate your humor but in that case not. I think if I were in the market for a laser engraver, which I am not, I would find it difficult in making a choice between these two machines. thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.😀😀
I wasn't interested in using a numerical system that would would still only show MY opinion and would ultimately show bias towards a single machine. I'd rather just show you each one and let you decide for yourself.
I love y Xtool D1 Pro 20 watt but, if I needed another laser I'd buy the Roly Lasermatic 10.
What's the purpose of the air assist?
Blows away the particulate as the laser is vaporizing the wood. Leaves a cleaner cut and almost eliminates all the smoke staining on the surface
But on a scale of Snarf to Cringer, which machine stores more easily
thanks
No problem
Drew, I really wish you had covered which of these frickin laser beams has the portability, power, and water-resistance I need to attach them to sharks’ frickin heads!
😉
How many flat heads to a McConaughey?
I've seen xTool and the other [ATEZR] is new to me
Ngl I'm tempted to just buy both so I have have a back up 🤣
I am now convinced that anyone who isn't doing their tool ratings with completely meaingless 80s references is doing it wrong. Great way to keep either company from being mad at you...or maybe making both of them mad at you. Now I just wish I knew whether the Ortur was a PeeWee Herman or a Pauly Shore when compared to the Arnold or Matthew of these two. :D
Haha, definitely a PeeWee Herman
Excellent comparison, ummmm, how do they work on wood? .
In all seriousness though, thank you for another entertaining video :)
Thanks for watching
I give your scientific analysis a Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park out of five: memorable one-liners and very sexy in an unbuttoned shirt. No homo, just facts.
😂
You forgot the two most important aspects of laser cutters. _Enclosure and fume extraction._ Both systems lack all of aforementioned. The cheap open frame Lasers are in no way safe to use! Just think about it, you're burning material to fine dust particles. What does these particles do to you and your surrounding? You don't want to get them into your respiratory system.
Laserlight is dangerous even reflected from surfaces and from a far. You need special glasses to be safe from it. Often are the glasses added to the kits not even suited for the wave length. You think you are safe with using them but you aren't.
👍
Don't know where else to say this but did you know, J-fred from team edge is a fan?
I don't know who that is.... but cool. :)
Red and gold... Did Tony Stark design this? 😂
🤩
Dá-lhe dá-lhe bom dia amigo parabéns - forte abraço - likaço
The X Tool machine looks like it’s made out of a recycled Ironman suit!!!
LOL. Power switch...😇
👍👍👏👏
Is this a review video on Fishers? They forgot to add a slotted screw. Riot!
