Dan Herron , I watched the making of that stunt , it was spectacular , and then when Ernest Borgnine sits up in the car it looks as if was really driving , I seen this when it first came out and I still have it on VCR tape , I break it out now and then to watch it , also have Jaws , Dirty Mary Crazy Larry , and many others , real people doing real stunts , enjoy it immensely , thanks

The film companies cobbled and bodged cars, trucks ect back together using parts from different era,s so the rear end might have been a 71 but the front end a 72 it's known as economy to do so. Thus the vehicle changes through out the scenes.
The roll over was a legit accident. They wanted to re film the scene apparently but the repair shop they were using during the filming wasn't allowed to work on Brockway trucks, so they wrote the accident into the script.

And the driver flew that car way further than was intended. Amazingly, he not only survived, but his bones were intact too.
Little fun fact: The truck that flipped in the intersection, was not actually planned, but a legitimate accident.
