    That was my Pop driving the Chevelle. He doubled Ernie in Convoy, and set a car jump record (at that time), but it wasn't planned that way. He was supposed to end up in the barn, but ended up going 160+ feet w/o any suspension modifications, etc. Amazing her survived this gag. th-cam.com/video/moXAGBIYu4I/w-d-xo.html

      Dan Herron , I watched the making of that stunt , it was spectacular , and then when Ernest Borgnine sits up in the car it looks as if was really driving , I seen this when it first came out and I still have it on VCR tape , I break it out now and then to watch it , also have Jaws , Dirty Mary Crazy Larry , and many others , real people doing real stunts , enjoy it immensely , thanks

      "Convoy" looks like a "Smokey And The Bandit" ripoff, but it has its own personality and, despite being inebriated, Sam Peckinpah. This was his biggest hit, but his unprofessionalism blacklisted him, until he second-unit work on "Jinxed", and full work on "The Osterman Weekend" and two Julian Lennon music videos, before his passing.

      As with most 70,s films Convoy wasn't any different as to vehicles. The film companies cobbled and bodged cars, trucks ect back together using parts from different era,s so the rear end might have been a 71 but the front end a 72 it's known as economy to do so. Thus the vehicle changes through out the scenes.

      The roll over was a legit accident. They wanted to re film the scene apparently but the repair shop they were using during the filming wasn't allowed to work on Brockway trucks, so they wrote the accident into the script.

      "CONVOY" It was released in June 1978. Just in time for summer. Along with "GREASE" and "JAWS 2". All great movies from that time. I so miss the 70's.

    In a Kenworth pullin logs......in a Volvo/white waiting on a tow truck.....in freightliner developing hemroids. In a western star insisting I'm better than a Peterbilt....in the hospital clinging to life after driving team with a SWIFT driver.

    • @heistalmighty84
      @heistalmighty84 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe they started putting it into production cars in the early 50's but it was invented long before that even.

      According to sources power steering for all cars came within the late 80s ,
