Hey, Trent. I just want to let you know if you're ever up North. In the panhandle of Idaho got a place for kit foxes to land kitchens working on the ADUs right now. Good enough for a couple of people to stay. Give me a shout, thanks. Jerry
I bought a 1946 Ercoupe in 1970. I soloed it a week later and had my license in about six weeks. Much of the $2000 I spent for the money I spent for the plane would have been spent on a rental, which was $20 per hour back then. Of course I had to buy my own 80 octane fuel for around a dollar a gallon, so that's an extra $4 an hour. Well worth it.
I've been wanting a kitfox for years and have dreamed of flying since I was a boy. I've bought land at the end of an airstrip in Elk City Idaho built a small cabin and hope to live long enough to make it all come true. Love your videos
Probably much more room than an M5. Early mauls were nothing more than Pacers with the tiniest back seats. you had to have stick legs to fit in. Plus the doors suck. I f'd up my back trying to get into one.
I see that N146KF is a Kitfox IV like the one I used to have. Mine was an 80 hp Rotax but I bet 100 hp Kitfox goes up like a rocket. Did I tell you I miss my Kitfox😢
Thanks for the video Trent! Also, the comment about “that’s how you land a SuperSTOL” made me proud. 😊. Sorry I was late to the party. Waiting for the oil to get a little higher than 120. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
I got my first job as an A&P at the Auburn airport in ... 1976! It was a much different airport then. I look old but don't see myself as this old, kind of bizarre. I still fly a taildragger too!
I did my first solo flight at KAUN. I've been watching your videos for years now and it's so cool to see you go to the airport where I started my training at!

Love the back country.
Very cool video. Thanks. Not to bring up bad memories but what's going on with that flying buddy of yours that crashed and got seriously injured a few years back? I really hope he's back up and flying again.
His story is similar to mine! I bought mine 2 months after I started flight lessons in a J-3. Actually my 1st solo and my checkride were in my own plane, a Kitfox 4-1200!
Buying a Kitfox sounds like a brilliant way to motivate oneself to get their pilot’s license. Trent, your buddy there sounded like he was hungry when the video started. He did say that he gets a little crazy when he’s hungry. So, guess I’m saying, he’s brilliant and crazy at the same time. Didn’t get the paint scheme until, I remembered the expression: Keep the Blue Side Up! ⬆️
Trent, you need to get a Maule yourself. I live in Alaska and they are a very popular aircraft here for the heavy payload they can carry. The Maule M-9 can carry 2 people, 250 pounds of luggage and 7+ hours of fuel. The gros weight is 2800 pounds and we have a lot of them on floats.😊
"Soylent Green" was a movie from 1973. Earth had run out of food, and this great new product came out. Turned out "Soylent Green" was "people" - what a horrible marketing idea. This is what happens when folks forget history, or don't research a name. Maybe it's a good product? Sorry Trent. I'll never know.
They named it that as a joke, but it's worked out good for them. They grew from nothing very fast. Honestly name recognition has done more for them than it has hurt them. Remember, humans kinda run off name recognition to a degree, same reason the same idiots get elected over and over when we all hate em. The people who know the joke will buy it to be like "yaaaaah I'm eating peeeeepool" and people who don't, realistically, probably wouldn't have bought it anyway.
I'll check out the insurance. Just got my Sport certificate last week, and haven't flown cause insurance premium quote is high for the rental aircraft I want to rent
Insurance is ridiculous! That said... day 1 of actually taking possession of my new airplane, the FBO towed it with the parking brake on... $7k damage. Had to file insurance until they subrogate. Was glad for insurance!
Bought an airplane and can’t fly it? In the same situation as I bought Leonard Milholland’s original Legal Eagle late last year. Severe health issues have grounded me for now. I’ll get better but don’t know when yet. Great video Trent!
Good luck to your friend on finding instruction to get either his Private or Sport Pilot Certificates. If he finds someone please, please announce it. I own a Kitfox 2 with a D-MOTOR and since covid have not been able to get instruction in a Kitfox. I have been looking for instruction a long time. The instructor in Denton, Texas tells me he is booked till Dec. 2024. I own a Kitfox, but never have flown in one. I taxi mine ever so often, but that's all I get to do.
I sure hope he got his medical before buying that plane. My CFI told me to get a medical before I started my training. If I failed the medical due to say color blindness I would not be able to get a check ride. I've heard rumors that some FBO's will let you go through the whole program to the point where it's time to see an AME only to fail the exam and have wasted all that money.

I'd think that getting the wing deep in ground effect is better. Bit of aerodynamics might not be bad either.
