Hey Stephanie, thank you for the video. It's great. What about if Social Security commits a mistake. I have a lady who was told she didn't qualify because she didn't have her 40 quarters of work in. I'm a skeptic so I'm going to ask a question, which yes I think you have covered in your videos. I am still working, may retire at 66 or 67, and have Employer-provided insurance. So if I understand this correctly- I wait to enroll in Part B until I know when my employer insurance will end. This is the part I need confidence in - When I sign up for B, I will sign up for Medigap, and for Medigap, there will be no medical exams required and no penalty? Do I understand correctly? I'm skeptical because I had a bunch of brokers contact me and one was getting me signed up for September. I feel like it was a con and I had to change my checking account as a result.t
YES you are correct. You can delay Part B. And then you will have an “open enrollment” for Medigap when you do enroll in Part B. Many brokers will just try to sign you up no matter your situation, use scare tactics etc. I’m glad you got informed! Looking forward to hearing from you in the future.
HELP :) Quit my job this week after 18+ years. I am 65+ I signed up for medicare in May my B-day, and have just signed up for part B. I mean is there really just 1 way, the absolute best way, to go for the rest of this to be covered and not have to worry about money and freedom of choice on where to seek treatment? Thanks and enjoy your weekend.
Thank you for this informative video... I just wanted to clarify: If you signed up for an Advantage plan at 65 (during your IEP), doesn't the system allow you a sort of "trial period" to switch back to a Medigap (from an Advantage plan) with no underwriting requirements at all, after 1 year (at 66) if you decide to switch?
Great question! If your Advantage Plan started at the *same time* as your Part A and B start dates then you have up to 12 months from that date to leave your Advantage Plan and get a Medicare Supplement Plan without medical underwriting. This is also know as a “trial right” guaranteed issue right. I hope this helps!
I went on disability from the Federal Government and I received information that made me delay my wife's Part B coverage enrollment and my wife was penalized by the process you just described. To this day, she is still paying extra coverage for the delay! The government suck!
Hello, I really enjoy watching your videos. Very informative. I have a question...I turn 65 this December, am retired, and have Health Marketplace insurance. Can I be penalized by the Federal Government if I don't begin my Medicare A & B in December while still using the Obamacare insurance? I would like to start everything on January 1st, Medicare A,B,D and a Supplement Plan. I may also begin to receive Social Security payments in January as well. Thank You!
Great question. If you turn 65 in December then Medicare won’t penalize you for starting Medicare part B in January ( because you’re still in your initial enrollment period - IEP). HOWEVER if you sign up for Medicare anytime during your IEP then Medicare will generally make your Part A coverage effective the first day of your birth month. So if you wait until Dec to enroll in Medicare, it’s likely your Part B coverage will start Jan. 1st but Part A will be retroactive and start Dec 1st. The marketplace can technically ask you to pay back any Advance Premium Tax Credit you have received while you have Part A or Part B coverage, so that is something to keep in mind if you are getting a tax credit subsidy.
@@AbtInsuranceAgency So December it shall be. I will apply in September, then call you for help finding a Supplement Plan. I am in Wisconsin, btw. Thank you so very much and have a great day!

Great Stu Stephanie. Thank you very much for sharing your valuable knowledge. I’m not 65 yet but will be soon. I am also self employed. What do you recommend for people like me?
I may be re-employed soon. I have had Medicare B and D since my previous employment ended 12/21. If I were offered company coverage, should I just stick with Medicare? I have had new health issues since I first started Medicare.
Hi Stephanie. May I ask a question? If I decide that I want to go down the Advantage path, am I losing anything really by not staying with traditional Medicare, and choosing a supplement plan in my first year? I feel like I will just be spending money on a supplemental plan for a year, for basically nothing, if I am going to go Advantage later. Just wondering what I am missing.

Thank you! So do I understand this correctly ? I turn 65 in March of 2024, my husband and I are covered under his employer(Costco) insurance . I DO NOT have to sign up for Part A or Part B until we actually need it and there will be no penalty for the delay as long as I sign up with 8 month of previous insurance ending?
Hi, thank you for so many informative videos on this topic. I turn 65 this May and plan to retire this May as well. Can I sign up for medicare Part B now and designate June 1, 2023 as the start date for of my part B coverage or do I have to wait till May to sign up and then start on June 1? I do have medical coverage through my employer now and will have through end of May. Thanks.
Great question. If you sign up anytime before May 1st, your Part A and B coverage will automatically begin on May 1st (you don't have the option to pick a different date). If you wait until May 1st and then sign up in May, coverage will start June 1st. I would go ahead and enroll right on May 1st for coverage to begin 6/1! Call us anytime for help.
You can sign up for Part A and Part B starting 3 months before you turn 65. You can apply for Social Security benefits at the same time. You can apply online or make an appointment (in office or phone) with your local SS office. My husband retires tomorrow and starts SS/Medicare on March 1. He had an appointment to apply over the phone in early December, as he had questions. It was quick and easy. Appointments book out quickly so call well ahead of time to schedule one if you decide to do it that way.
I just signed up for Medicare B which will start in September. Once I get the start date for Medicare B when would I sign up for Medicare Part D? What is the window for enrolling in Medicare Part D?
You can apply for Medicare Part B anytime that you are actively working with employer coverage and you have up to 8 months after you retire to apply without penalty.
Thank you. I am 63 but am an information/planner hound. I believe I have seen all of your videos and find then very informative. I currently have employer retirement medical coverage and individual Dental and Vision plans. I may have missed an answer to my question. I understand the Underwriter risk of Choosing Advantage and then switching to Medigap after the IEP. (or after the 1 year trial). Would it be a better strategy to get Plan D, perhaps individual dental and vision plans, and the Medigap during the IEP? If we switch from Medigap to Advantage after a few years and and then back to Medigap after a few more years, is the underwriter risk still there, since we started with medigap in IEP?
Good questions. If you drop a Medicare Supplement Plan to get a Medicare Advantage Plan *for the first time* then you have a 12 month "trial right" period to go back to your Medicare Supplement Plan without medical underwriting. I hope this helps!
I am 66, and will be retiring in November.. I have full coverage with my employer now, and am going with medigap plan G, as far as D drig plan.. I don't have to sign up for that now.. correct? I should do it when I sign up for G, at the same time I drop coverage from my current employer.. correct?
I’m scared... so much to think about... Hi, I’m turning 65 soon this year. I currently under my wife’s company healthcare plan. Could I just get Medicare plan A and stay under my wife’s plan? I’m not working.
Also my wife just told me that next year 2024 when she renew her healthcare coverage that the insurance company might not accept me under her plan because of my age 65. Is that true?
To be clear, can you delay enrollment in ALL parts of Medicare, i.e. A, B, C, D past age 65 if you are covered by a private employer health insurance plan? Do you still have 8 months (for all parts) to enroll when you do retire?
Yes, you can delay. You have up to 8 months after you retire/lose employer coverage to enroll in Parts A and B without penalty. You have up to 63 days after you lose employer coverage to enroll in either a Part C Medicare Advantage plan or a Part D drug plan. And you have up to 6 months from your Part B effective date to choose any Medigap plan without medical underwriting. I hope this helps!
You can delay Medicare without penalty. When you go to enroll you will need 2 forms. The CMS 40B and the L564. This video explains more! th-cam.com/video/Tc5_VmzBXME-/w-d-xo.html
If your employer’s plan has 19 or fewer plan members, it will pay second to Medicare, so you must enroll in both Parts A and B of Medicare. Then you can choose whether to get a Medicare Advantage plan or a medigap and Part D drug plan, or keep the employer insurance. If your employer’s plan has 20 or more members, it will pay first and be the primary coverage, so it is not required to have Medicare. Since you can choose to have Medicare or not, the thing to do is compare what you pay yourself for the employer coverage and what you get for that monthly premium, with what you would pay for Medicare and what you would get with Medicare coverage. Then you can choose which is best for you.
@@stargazer5073 If you are retiring, you need to enroll in Parts A and B (you have up to 8 months after leaving "active" employment), but if you are still working and plan to stay on your employer health plan then you can do nothing.
@@AbtInsuranceAgency are we okay to do nothing before retirement?
@@stargazer5073 If you are retiring, you need to enroll in Parts A and B (you have up to 8 months after leaving "active" employment), but if you are still working and plan to stay on your employer health plan then you can do nothing. I hope that makes sense! Call us if you still have questions. 888-465-9728.
@@AbtInsuranceAgency thanks, I'll watch the video
My husband will turn 65 next November. He is covered under my employer insurance and I won't retire for another 5 years at least. Our coverage for prescriptions is creditable. So we will wait to sign up for Medicare part B and D. But how do I know if my employer's dental and vision plans are creditable?
There are no penalties/ need for creditable coverage when it comes to Dental and vision !
@@AbtInsuranceAgency Thank you for the quick response!
Is your company authorized to operate in Arkansas?
@@John-m1r8h yes!

My teamsters insurance for her ends on her birthday we need to talk to somebody for help to make the correct decisions, how would be the best way to discuss the best options with you.
Hello my daughter is 26 and works in a restaurant. She doesn't have any kind of health coverage. How can she get health insurance? She is in Texas. Thanks
Email me at stephanie@abtinsuranceagency.com - I can get her some options!
@@AbtInsuranceAgency Thanks. She will contact you. Her name is Vanessa.
What about under 20 employees
You should enroll in Medicare when first eligible to avoid claims issues.
So I start Medicare May 1 but I don’t have my drug plan yet. Is that something I can get right away?
Yes, you can apply now for a 5/1 effective date! You can go to FindingPartD.com or www.abtinsuranceagency.com/finding-part-d to find the best plan for your needs and enroll.
Hi beautiful thanks for the update have a good night
You're welcome!
If I am already receiving social security retirement benefits will i be automatically enrolled in Medicare?
yes!
If you want to read the book at the very bottom of that pile, do you just say, "aw the heck with it. I'll go watch the movie instead."
I'm 64, and I'll be 65 in May of 2025. It's my plan to work until 67. 🤞🏽if I work until 67 do I need to enroll in anything to avoid penalties? Also, will Medicare contact me, or do I contact Medicare when I'm 65 or 3 mos before 65? If not, who do I contact? There are so many tricky websites if I look up something only to find it's not trustworthy. Like it's legit but not reliable (if that makes sense)
If you are actively working with employer insurance (and employer has 20+ employees) then you can delay Medicare without penalty. Just do nothing - or some people will enroll online at SSA.gov in Part A only since it’s free. You will contact Medicare 2-3 months prior to your retirement to apply for Medicare. www.ssa.gov/medicare/sign-up/part-b-only
