An unenviable job for sure. For odor, if you need it, add some white vinegar to the mix and close the lid for a while to soak. Then scrub it out. It works for a lot of things. I hope for garbage cans. 😀👋
Thank you. Yes, white vinegar works, although it doesn't take long for odours to compromise. It's the once a fortnight pickup that's the problem. Used to be once a week once upon a time, but those days are long since gone. And the garbage cans way back then were galvanised iron which had the advantage of being easily cleaned as opposed to today's plastic bins. Seems to me odours permeate the plastic as well as stuff clinging to the plastic surface like doo doo to a blanket. Ah; the good ole days. 🙂👍
@@JohnHampton Oh yes, we used to have the galvanized metal too and the plastic does hang on to odors. We use trash bags, which I know environmentalist don't appreciate but our garbage company is glad for them. We still get the once a week pickup. I hope it stays that way. 😀👋
Very much so, but someone has to do it. 😆😬 Thanks for the tip. Yes, bring back the ole garbage cans and empty once a week like it used to be. Won't happen, of course; because it would cost the councils too much. And besides, there's way too much garbage these days when compared to the garbage of yesterday once upon a time. Oy vey. 🙄👍
We used to have once a week pickup before the council in all its wisdom decided to introduce a recycling and green waste bin, making a total of three bins where once there was one, and so started the once a fortnight pickup; with garbage one week, recycling the next, but the green waste is once a week. We can place meat scraps and other food scraps in the green waste bin, which is handy. If we remember to do so, that is. Ha ha. 😆👍
@@JohnHampton It's become that way in a lot of places here, but we're such a small town that the recycling companies don't pick up down here. We'd have to go to them, so the garbage company in another town picks up once a week and they sort the recycling. Right now I have some old dead cell phones that I don't think they'll buy back. Those can't be put in the garbage, we're supposed to ship them somewhere or remember to take them along and put them in a pile of old phones somewhere. Have fun with the garbage cans. That's Joe's job here. 😂😀👋😂
Oh I don't envy you. We are vegetarian and our food waste we compose so all we put in the bin is mostly plastic and very little of that. We have never put food scraps in bin and all our paper cardboard goes in recycle. You did a good job. Take care.
I didn't envy me, either. One advantage of being vegan, eh? Good for you. Wouldn't be so bad if the garbage was picked up every week like it used to; but now it's every fortnight. Like I said; wheelie garbage bins are a threat to humankind; because who knows what new cultures - bacteria and viruses - are breeding inside them. Thank you, Meg. You take care, too. Ooroo. 🙂👍
@@JohnHampton our bins are once a week only the recycle is fortnight. Yes I can't actually stand the smell on garbage days now it's summer and all our windows and doors are open it's putrid I don't know what goes in those bins but it's vile. Yes composting is the way! Hope your well John.
I can certainly relate to the stench wafting in through the open windows and doors now the weather has started to heat up. Phew. Yuk. Sometimes we have the added bonus of the garbage truck stopping close by to compress the load. Holy smoke. The stench is obscene. It's not so much what goes into the bins that's the problem, it's the amount of time it stays there festering away as it gathers heat and decomposes. Ugh. I'm doing okay, thank you. How are you? Aside from the stench of wheelie bins, how is life in general treating you? All good, I hope. Adieu. 🙂👌👍
@@JohnHampton you are absolutely right about the amount of time the stuff is festering I couldn't handle our bins sitting for 2 weeks thank God it's once a week. I think people that throw out carcasses and meat stuff should leave it in the freezer until the actual pick up day. I am well thanks for asking trying like every one eles in our condition to do all the right things. Diet, excersise, yoga and staying positive. I still haven't got any symptoms yet as was only diagnosed with emphysema in September and my spirmometer test showed my lung capacity at 79 and normal lungs are 80-120 2 Drs have said I should stay here or even improve if I continue to keep healthy. I was just at the Dr Friday my BP was great. My oxygen was great my chest was great no wheezing sounds nothing and my heart is great so yes lol I'm doing great. Thanks for asking I hope you are keeping happy as you always do.
Oh and I don't even need any medication no puffer or anything not to say as the years pass I might well I most probably will need something but I keep a positive mind. Beck I haven't even had a cold in over 15 years so I guess my very strict keto diet as well as my many vitamin sups have helped with the excersise and yoga. 🙂
Hate wheelie bins we have them here and now matter how much you put the rubbish in black bags first they still end up stinking I can't remember our dustbin smelling like wheelie bins do but then the dustbins were emptied every week not every two weeks like the wheelie bins are now
Me too, Dill. It's the same here: once a fortnight instead of once a week like it used to be. Recycling bins the same but they don't smell at all as long as bottles and cans and such are washed out before putting in. You're right about the garbage tins/cans of yesterday; as I can't remember them smelling at all. Still, we had far less garbage in those days compared to what we have now, didn't we? 🙂👍
You’re a brave man John😄👍🏼 don’t know if I could do that without a peg on my nose!
Thank you, Anna. I can be when I need to be. 😆😛
Cleaning is an endless task...
It sure is, Lisa. If it's not one thing, it's another. 🙄😵
