He was coughing i guess he was sick, if he was, to be able to sing the exact same notes with no change is actually impressive The last of the generation that doesn’t use autotune, the people with autotune don’t understand, it is way more genuine and beautiful when it shows the imperfections in your voice so it sounds human not robotic
he probably just coughed because his singing technique is very strained. if you skip to 3:33 you can see the vein in his neck bulging out because he's straining to hit those higher notes. not to say it's particularly dangerous to his voice or it makes him sound worse; however, it still irritates the vocal cords and therefore makes him cough. happens to a lot of non-professional/untrained vocalists.
U know man, studio version has always a "better sound" cause everything is mixed... Obviously hearing him like this looks "raw" but still I kinda prefer it like this, cus he is not scared to show truth. We like him because he is being real with us, as always
