WOW, this is why I watch your channel! You are doing unique builds and they are all cool. The way you explain everything and work through your process makes you one of if not the best in my opinion. Thanks for working hard for our enjoyment.
Seems like a good time to address the Ugly in the UglyTruck, clean everything up, as I'm sure the install will be, but it should look as good as it performs... Top to bottom and front to back! Looking forward to the new videos, as always.
I love to see how excited you are about it! Makes me feel excited too! People don't understand the joy after the anticipation and how much this stuff means to us and how hard we work for stuff like this.
Congrats on finally getting your motor, in the first few minutes of the video you looked like a kid on Christmas morning lol smiling ear to ear. Can’t wait to see this build
Obligatory congrats on 80k. I love this channel and have no idea how you haven’t absolutely blown up yet. Can’t wait for that to happen. This channel has one of my fav ratios of nerdy specs to action. Also just enough for me to learn a lil without getting completely lost.
Yeah when I worked for Cummins we had some natural gas generators with the 8.1 engine. Always wondered if they could be put into an automotive application. Never had any issues out of them. They lived a pretty easy life just running 1800rpm. That’s cool.
Congratulations to you! I love the 4WD idea. I'm not sure how you'd get traction with 1,500hp otherwise. Looking forward to seeing your work come together.
Friend of a fiend owns Valley Cylinder Heads. They do some great stuff there. Their cylinder head work is pretty amazing. Good choice. You won’t be disappointed.
While I agree, I would be pretty uncomfortable with my piston skirts poking out from the bottom of the cylinders. Best to get an aftermarket block or modify the stock one.
I love it when new parts arrive, Christmas in July... 😁😎 Can't wait to see how fast the ugly truck goes. You might need awd to just put the power down.😮😆
Excited for this build ! Cool to see people do something with these engines. Running into a single 96/88 turbine it's going to have VERY bad backpressure issues. Yes, it'll spool stupid fast but you'll be RPM limited from the excessive backpressure. Keep in mind, guys have pinned the gates shut on 370ci LS engines with 96/88 s480 turbos. You REALLY need 2 for this many cubes and to reach your goal easier. JMO.....
I agree on all points... I will be monitoring backpressure with the Holley and the S480 will absolutely be upgraded to something larger before we reach our final goal... I may even build a twin setup
Everything looks awesome! I'm excited for you. Hopefully that cam retains the original 8.1L firing order. (Same as the LS) There's a few reasons it's better, but the sound is the only one I need.
Larry does a cnc ported version of those heads, with the bigger valves. It flows around 440cfm per port. It's nice you got some, I couldn't even order any, he had no clue when restock was gonna happen. The crank he offers is the stock psi 8.8. It's forged oem.
We’re ready! Just woke up 6:30 this morn to watch this and I’m just as excited as you are! With my stock 8.1 at home your the only guy I get to see doing mods to them!!! Thanks man
I've been running a 8.1 bone stock on 15psi for 2 years now ... I've run it by accident up to 24lbs for 2 weeks running it pretty hard . There tough motors, don't listen to the negative hype.
Congratulations on 80k, love no replacement for displacement. Will you be doing a cost breakdown on what this build would cost to duplicate. Would love to do something like this for my 90 R3500 crew cab dually. Good luck on the build and at the races.
Just some insight on your et goals....@ 4400# you'll need 1200 rwhp to run 8.99 at sea level, and 1700rwhp to go 7.99 at sea level. With that many cid, you're gonna need a pair of 90+mm turbos to make that power at 15 psi.
I noticed the ring grooves are alot lower on the new pistons. I wish I had swapped mine out when I had to have the crank and rear rods fixed but they still looked great so I left them. But since yours is holding up so well to boost them it eases my mind a little bit since I use my dually to toe all my proje'ts and camper mainly. Can't wait to see the new motor being built. Love the show!
Hi LT I'm so excited for you to finally start building your dream engine I wish you the best of luck and encourage you to just take your time with this engine by doing that the chance of anything going wrong are out the door and your ahead of all issues because you took your time. I wished I lived closer to because I wouldn't mind being your grunt man doing the things you don't like doing. So I guess your on your own so have and I'll just watch your videos 📹 and get some education from your build. Going now thanks Ray in Idaho
Harrop are working on blowers for big blocks FYI see the Skid Factory for details. Steve Morris engines do a build tech series on big blocks. The piston gudgion pin area is a week link on most pistons as the ring lands are very weak in that area so he uses a button type pin retainer and not spiral clip.
1500hp is about right! For this guy to have the experience he has and to be anything less is unacceptable! Loved watching this dude work before with the other guys but this is much better!
Man, I experienced the same elation this last week; I picked up my new short block on 6/29! It’s about 120 cubic inches smaller though LOL. I’ve got a 5,200 lb Ford crewcab shooting for 1,000 hp… I’ll be watching your ugly truck times and doing some Dragy races against it on my own. Great content!
Great video LT 👍👍 a guess on your power would be between 1200 to 1280hp. You're going to need the AWD gonna be very hard to plant that power without modifications to the suspension. Great video LT 👏👏👏👏

Definitely a cool and unique build. You really should have went minimum 10.1:1 compression or maybe 10.5:1 since you have E85 fuel. Since you have tuning capabilities it is super easy to set your timing at a safe position for street driving. I have a 416ci stroker LSA with 11.2:1 SCR and am running 15-16psi on E85 and it can be daily driven or raced as much as I want. It is so responsive and fun too.
thats a great point, and I have to say I discovered e85 locally only after ordering the pistons, so if I could go back, I'd probably do it a bit different.
@@LawrenceTolman you could mill some off of the heads as long as you have enough piston to valve clearance, and if they can redo the sealing ring after the milling to the head was done.
