- James Hannon (TI-6799) of the NorthEast Remnant Garrison (and Jolly Roger Squadron Detachment) of the 501st Legion shows you how to put on a TIE Pilot costume. I agree its not the most complicated costume out there, but the NER and I are putting out a series of these videos, and we're starting with the ones that are easy to film....

There's nothing better than this...being a TIE Pilot. They will always be my favourite characters in STAR WARS.

The fan was such a smart idea!!!!
The helmets were large because they were basically a Stormtrooper helmet with an X-Wing pilot helmet attached to the top/sides. Which gives it that huge appearance.
The fans blowing air through the tubes is a brilliant idea. I would consider doing a TIE Pilot simply for that, haha.
I own the helmet and jumpsuit. Where or from whom can I purchase the rest, ESPECIALLY the chest piece with the fans. What a great concept. Please advise and thanks so much for posting.

Thanks for the video! I've always been interested in having a costume ready to go for costumer-appropriate events, but my options are somewhat limited due to my size. For a fella of about 230 lbs and 5'10" (roughly 100kg / 180cm) could I fit a "Tie Pilot" or "Deathstar Gunner" costume without looking ridiculous? Don't get me wrong, man, you look magnificent in it! But I have doubts about my own person; I really would prefer to avoid going as Barf from Spaceballs ;) Thanks in advance!

Just buy the costume in parts rather than buying it as one package. Me and a lot of wannabe pilots are buying their costumes in small parts because not everyone can afford to pay $1,500 USD in one transaction. Especially if you're a Canadian like me.

Ok i was curious what was the setup for the chestbox, you choose 2 screws and a velcro system. Not bad. Mine will be from SandProp in Poland (Arakyel) i don't know if his comes with a similar system, if not my GML and I will figure it out.

How much will a costume like this or a stromtrooper costume approximately cost you? What about more specialized costumes like an ARC trooper? I'm just looking for a rough estimate. I'd love to join the 501st but don't want to spend 1k+ on it...
It all depends on how much crafting skills you have... If you can trim and paint plastic, you could find a good do it yourself kit for less than $500... But if you want to be ready to go right off the bat, its going to be quite a bit higher...

What I always wonder with those SW helmets- do you actually see anything through the visors, or are those just a differently shaped and painted part of the same material the helmet is made of, and you're completely blind in this bucket?

I would love to join you guys but unfortunately I am too young for your requirements. Not only that but I am not an expert costume maker skilled enough to make armor like that. Nor do I know a website to buy armor for a good price.

Denali Kota I don't know the maker well enough to recommend - go to the Jolly Roger Squadron 501st page, or the Black Squadron, you're sure to find a lot of opinions there on RS

Is there a way to get awesome costumes that look like the movies without joining the 501st? I can't find any websites
Even if you don't want to join the 501st, they specialize in movie-accurate costumes, so joining their various forums will help you find all you need. And I can tell you right now, even though you'll most likely have to build a costume instead of just buy one, it will not only be cheaper but it will also look better as well.

the 501st judges ANYONE not in the 501st and they tell you how inaccurate you are compared to there elite standards
I think it comes down to, why pay $1200 for an inaccurate costume when you can get an accurate one for $800?

It's real. I'm a recently enlisted member. I already bought a jumpsuit and a belt. Later this year I plan on getting the boots and the helmet. As far as the minimum age goes, I'm not even sure about that, and I never had to worry about that since I'm over 18. However, when I was ordering my jumpsuit then I've seen that there are sizes available for people who are only 165 centimeters tall and who have waist sizes of less than 30 inches, so this makes me presume that kids can do this too.

The only thing I don't get about the 501st legion is that it was a legion during the clone wars unless it also carried over to the empire.
