I saw my bro play this game and I literally only picked it up so I could fight to this music. A single song was my purpose for an entire game. Greatest boss theme of all time
This is quite possibly the greatest RPG battle theme ever composed. Noriyuki Iwadare is an absolutely amazing composer. I know he is my favorite. This theme encompasses every emotion that could be felt in a heated, struggling battle. Truly epic, and truly an everlasting masterpiece.
@@ShaneDouglas713 11 Years later, I'm still here and am playing through Grandia Xtreme for the first time in 11 Years Actually! Yeah..... still one of the best Themes overall I have ever heard. 2:00 at the change up is when it gets serious, and what makes this theme have that standout!
All the producers of this game had to ask Noriyuki Iwadare to do was compose “epic battle music”, and he went way above and beyond yet again. I really appreciate his compositional style; orchestrated (synth and real) with blaring horns, warm strings, sizzling electric guitars, pianos, etc. It just oozes the style of awesome film soundtracks from the 1970s. This is especially the case for this game and the masterpiece of a soundtrack for Grandia 2. I don’t think other composers really embrace this style consistently (usually they lean toward progressive/classic rock, jazz or a more eclectic mix of tracks).
@@feiwong3634I have heard of them but will probably deep dive even never having played those games, thank you. I had to send my past self into time out.
This is without doubt the best battle theme I've ever heard. The melody sounds extremely unique, the different parts are not overly repetive and it really causes tension. Awesome!
This is absolutely my favorite Grandia Xtreme theme EVER!!! Every time I hear this I always think of the first time I heard it (and loved it) when I fought against Volt Beast.
Similar to his title naming conventions for Grandia 2 (Fight Ver 1, 2, 3, etc). But, if you know what this stands for in context, just seeing the title Combat 4 is all that is required. Just like “Fight!! Ver 2” has a feeling.
As I stated in another video, Noriyuki Iwadare is an excellent not so recognized composer, this battle theme is EPIC, yes, it deserved to have all the capital letters. The Volt Beast, Kroitz (both versions) and Zenothlee battles deserved such theme.
I see that someone upvoted my comment and so let me talk more about Noriyuki Iwadare. He's a skilled composer but the games he made music for sadly had shoddy sequels (Grandia Xtreme & Grandia III) and promising prospects that didn't get fulfilled (Radiata Stories & Lunar). There were supposed to be a sequel for Lunar 2 but it didn't happen due to disputes breaking out and the regular team from there made Grandia 1 which is like a spiritual successor to Lunar 2. Shoji Meguro has been with Atlus for over 20 years. Yoko (Kingdom Hearts) has been with Square for over 20 years. Koichi Sugiyama has been with Dragon Quest for over 35 years. Noriyuki Iwadare has been around but he doesn't have a base of operations which sucks because its a missed opportunity for what he can do. The motto nowadays is be loyal to yourself and nobody else but bouncing from place to place has small fees that add up over time.
+Doctor Who #12 yep ^^ I wish I could play another game with the same battle system :/ but I've never found anything yet ;-; anyway I'm happy for just discovering this game!
Totally agree!! I loved G1 & 2 and when this came out me and friends were: WTF!? Story is garbage but the combat was good as always and music awesome, its the worst grandia for me.
For me is 3, both Xtreme and 3 have the same problem, the story, and in 3 my GOD was so predictable. But hey the systems and musci make me come back tooThe only thing that i REALLY hated from Xtreme (besides the story and in some parts the exagerated dub) was the 100 floor dungeon. DEAR MOTHER OF MERCY HOW ANNOYING THAT WAS
I will speak for this game's awesomeness. Yes, it lacked a decent story and the characters had little development, but there's a reason they slapped the word Xtreme next to Grandia. It's a culmination of battle system madness. Every time you want to go into a dungeon, you feel this urge to change up how each character is going to perform. These weren't dungeons you could finish in half an hour and the monsters aren't pushovers. That's what made it extreme. Iwadare rocked here big time.
@MrElechandsup You've got to be kidding me, lol. This is one of the best RPG battle themes ever composed. I don't see how that could be considered an opinion. Noriyuki Iwadare is a musical master, thats a fact. =D
Here here my friend. To me this is a huge step up in quality from the already fantastic Grandia 2 soundtrack. One of the best VGM soundtracks of all time, in my opinion.
The only thing were missing from the Grandia series: A new game for this generation or next generation of consoles. Release Grandia 4 on the PS3 and 360 that stays true to the series in the past and were all set. Fans like me would love that so much.
To be honest, the characters in all Grandia games, along with the great dialogue, fleshes out their personalities quite well in any of the games. This game was never meant to have a massive, intricate story. Still, it manages to stand out due to the sheer quality in everything it offers. What little story it has isn't too bad either. I feel people should consider it an "arcade style" RPG for the lack of a better term. Tough, yet fun and intriguing. Makes you want to feed it more quarters. ;)
Final Fantasy and Grandia are by far my two favorite RPG franchises, with Grandia having the most fun battle system of any RPG. I just love the battle system so much and this is part of why Xtreme being a dungeon crawler never bothered my in the least. That being said, I have to disagree with you on the difficulty part, as I never found any Grandia challenging as compared to say the original Final Fantasy IV (hard type) and Final Fantasy Tactics.
Merhawk, do you happen to have the music from this game that is in the room after you beat a boss? Like, after you beat the water dungeon boss, there's the room that has three items in it and a statue of the guardian. The music from that room I have yet to be able to find.
The music feels so epic. I dragged on the fights with this BGM just to listen to it some more. This and the main battle theme are the best songs of the game. I must say, that the final boss theme wasn't all that hot........
it was cool but the characters dont have like any back story and the story is a bit weird but its amazing the gameplay and music is wat makes this game shine

I really like this theme, too bad its only played on like 4 boss battles on the entire game, dont get mt wrong, i like the other one but this is just better.
2:08 is also one of the most epic moments in VGM history. It always makes me think of unleashing a killer technique in the heat of a difficult boss fight that turns the tide of battle!
