    The "Grung War" is essentially what our current campaign is doing on a secluded island

    The grung slander! Grungs are the goblins of the jungle, and they deserve respect. I'm aghast.

    I had grungs in my game that I DM, and I had them use giant frogs as mounts and used gorilla warfare against the party hoping from branch to branch doing drive by blow dart shootings at the party.

    Another reason so many monsters are slavers is it gives them a reason to capture defeated party members over kills outright

    The most interesting thing ever done with grungs was in tfs at the table where grungs (accidentally misnamed tibbits) were organ harvesters rather than slavers. It was despicable enough to send a character on a rampage, so there's other stuff you can do besides slavery.

      I think it would be funny to use them like the underpants gnomes from South Park if one is writing a humorous campaign.

    I actually have a country in my world currently developing where Bullywug, Grung, and Slaad are the main citizens ruled over by a green dragon

    I had a friend who played a grung, our barbarian carried him in a water barrel so we had a healthy supply of poisoned water for some evil fun, there was even an instance of 3 grungs in a trench coat best npc ever

    The poison skin thing sounds incredibly annoying at the table. If you're something with Extra Attack or bonus action attacks (or both), you can apply the poison to every single attack, but targets have to roll a con save for every single one of those. That would get old very, very fast.
    I would suspect that they're AL illegal because they don't know Common by default? Could be very possible to build one that can't meaningfully communicate.

    Look at the Grippli in Candlekeep Mysteries. They are more of a neutral sort. Quest involving them has you helping to save their unhatched children.

    These guys need a tropical Tucker's Kobolds flavor. A Veitgrung gorilla trapped dungeon

    I love the recognition of the overdone and sketchy tropes that every DnD race needs...

    "a caste system based on skin color"
    MMMm...

    I think the issue comes from a cultural issue where we as a society have so few things we all agree on as evil. This leads to the villains to all be similar because we as a culture don't agree on what's evil

    I like the poison stuff but yes, you are correct, very trope lore.

    I love these weird off brand monsters you guys do lol, I agree that they put way too many monsters into tropes. They should try and make more things unique, or just not tropey

    You know I never thought of grung as evil. Isoltionist and primative yes but not evil per say. Perhapse I am just desensatized to the slavery and caste system thing because of just how wide spread they used to be.

    • @onemanriot100
      @onemanriot100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Isolationist would be enough to fight them....gives you a permanent self defense justification if you feel like you need it.

    • @antonymash9586
      @antonymash9586 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@onemanriot100 To be fair to them given how hostile the DnD universe is isolationism may be the correct response.
      Besides the very essence of their beings is poison. If they didnt have hostile relations with most of their neighbors they soon would.

    Why the hell would the Brian grung steal cabbages if it is eating bugs? Ritual purposes?

    • @jdrvargo287

      Diversify its diet? A side dish?

    • @AjenjoAnejo
      @AjenjoAnejo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jdrvargo287 That's the most reasonable option. I thought it would be fun for a party to track the grung, and find a frog choir, singing to a shrine of half rotting cabbages.

    When it comes to trope 5, I tend to ignore it. Slavery is more of a societal thing, in my games. A city/town/location may involve slavery, and most to all of the individuals residing there are involved.
