I miss listening to Pastor Chuck taking you through mind numbing stoic teaching to a tasteful sense of humor, not found so much in the church today. Sort of like a meal of meat and potatos with a side of dessert.

Yes. As the spirit gave them utterance. You can be filled with the spirit and the spirit can exercise other gifts too. Otherwise you’re just making noise, drawing attention to yourself. Which is probably why you commented.
Just making noise and God has nothing to do with it.

    1 Peter 3:
8.Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

U are like many who let a very bad thing ( corruption of the Word of God,) get worse by statng the Word of God is actually bad ! No. Originally these gifts were used in a pure way. Churches and evil hearts corrupt the gifts by selfish motives, acting and actually being led by a false spirit.
I guess you just see what others do and do not read the Holy Bible. Beware, that you do not blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Its an unforgivable sin. The Pharisees in Jesus day accused him of casting out devils by the prince of the devils Beelzebub. They blasphemed the Holy Spirit of God. The fruit of constant unbelief and refusal to submit to God are accusations like saying what is good from God is evil.

You do realize Mark 16 wasn't in the original manuscripts, don't you? I'd be careful building an entire theology around passages that weren't written or circulated by the Apostles.

Why couldn't both writings be right for certain scenarios? Didn't tongues show the power of God to unbelievers when the Spirit fell on them and they spoke in many different languages?

If speaking in unknown tongues is so edifying to oneself (in private setting), why didn't Paul record this ability in the other NT Epistles or teach it in NT churches?

    • @PastorChuckSmithTWFT
      @PastorChuckSmithTWFT  ปีที่แล้ว +2

First of all, thank you for your time. That is a good observation.
Now, would you agree the Epistles were circulated; and that the different parts of the body of Christ [i.e., the letters written to the different churches at different locations] do not all have the same issues? So the Holy Spirit addresses the issues that needed to be encouraged or corrected.
In reading the Letters to the Churches in Revelation 2 & 3, we see Jesus deals with each one based on His knowledge of what needs to be addressed and, if necessary, corrected.
Hope this helps - God Bless you in Jesus Name.

Paul did: 1 Cor 14:18 “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all”. Paul practiced the gift of tongues so much in his private time with God that in the next verse, he would only speak 5 words of understanding to teach others in the church about what the Holy Spirit taught Paul in scriptures and revelation of the finished work of Jesus on the cross which is the Gospel of Grace. 1 Cor 4:19 “Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others ALSO, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.” That word ALSO is the key for this verse. Paul was taught by the Holy Spirit in his private devotions with God when he spoke and prayed in tongues. Then Paul would teach in his language (Hebrew) others about this revelation. Remember Paul wrote 2/3 of the New Testament epistles.
In Ephesians where Paul talks about Spiritual Warfare and putting on the whole armor of God (belt of Truth, breastplate of Righteousness, boots of Gospel of Peace, shield of Faith, helmet of Salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word (Rema) of God.) When Paul was ready to go to war, he just didn't stay in defense with the whole armor, he goes on the offensive how? Eph 6:18 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication IN THE SPIRIT (in tongues), and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints”. Praying in the Spirit is praying in tongues. 1 Cor 14:14 “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.”
In 2 Tim Paul actually encouraged Timothy about this gift of God (Tongues) He told Timothy to stir up this gift of tongues after Paul laid hands on him. 2 Tim 1:6 “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands’. Acts 19:6 "And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.". This is the only gift by the way that God gave the believer to exercise at his own control. The believer has control over it, you can start and stop at your own conscious volition. Apparently, Paul had heard of Timothy’s spiritual warfare, shame and fear are two of the emotions that the enemy wants us to have. So, in the next verse this is what Paul says after stirring up that gift of God (tongues). 2 Tim 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” When you are being attack by the enemy through fear and accusations and intimidation, start speaking and praying in tongues. Fear will go away and will be replaced by Power, Love and a Sound Mind (self control). 2 Tim 1:7 "
So I disagree with Chuck, and I knew him by the way. He was a godly man and is in heaven enjoying the Glory presence of the Trinity. But Chuck did not have the full understanding of how special the gift of tongues, was the first gift that God gave to the believers and how important it is for the believers' walk with God in this side of eternity. When you pray and speak in tongues, you don’t have the understanding of what you are praying for, but you just have by faith settle in your heart that the Spirit is praying in your behalf straight into the throne of God.

Good sermon but praying in the spirit does not necessarily mean in an unknown tongue..... the fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control...... so tongues is not necessary to pray in the spirit. Tongues is not a fruit of the spirit. Just as I can walk in the spirit, I can also pray in the spirit with intention, feeling, exhortation, marvel etc etc etc there are many many many gifts that I would seek before tongues. Direct communication with God in my own language that is sufficient would be one of them...... and to be honest, I always have things to say..... if I don't then I don't need to speak but express in my spirit or listen..... why are people so in need to keep babbling that they need to do all this stuff that isn't gifted to them but done out of some sort of false exhortation of themselves.

I take issue with Chuck regarding is position/attitude towards the Pentecostal churches and tongues.
--- Firstly, he frequently characterizes those churches as being more focused on emotions. That's categorically WRONG. In fact, like Baptist churches, all Baptist churches do not worship or believe the same. I've visited a Baptist church that resembled a Pentecostal church, I've also known some who felt like staid Presbyterian congregations.
-- Secondly, What's chaotic to some might be normal to others--I am not to judge my brethren. I have friends where everyone in the family talks at the same time at a fever pitch and others whose family hardly speaks to each other. I'M IN THEIR HOME. There are churches where clapping, raising one's hands, and singing is prohibited. It's not for me to judge, I'm in THEIR house. I leave my attitude and outside before entering and join and accept my brethren where they are. The New Testament is over 2,000 years old and the same attitudes exist. What a horrible statement.

After a year has passed, can you notice the irony of you judging Pastor Smith’s preaching (in his own house) while taking a moral superiority stance for not judging others?
You may leave your attitude out of the church (I doubt it, actually), but you certainly don’t leave it out of your hypocritical TH-cam comments. 😂
