I've been called the N-word a few times there, but it was never in a malicious way. They thought it was a term of endearment. So, I wasn't offended. The only time I've gotten offended was by a Chinese guy who was being consistently rude to me in my condo. I was more offended because I assumed that he thought I was a black African, and as such could be played cheap. I kept it chill but let him (and the people around us) know that I'm from Baltimore, MD of the USA -- and he doesn't want to see that side of me.
@@markthompson4055 I have lived in Dallas and Philippines, planning on Cebu in April. Huge cultural differences but we adapt. Nothing in Philippines beats Luling Texas BBQ 😋
young pinoys see a black man: he must be a badass cool gangsta rapper! and i wanna be like him! it's what they see how you are portrayed in their tv's, radio's, movies...etc.
Very interesting. Here in Japan people are usually very reserved, especially with foreigners. But occasionally you will encounter someone who thinks social boundaries don't apply to non-Japanese people. They're usually pretty drunk and harmless though...Also, it's extremely rare to be asked for money. In all my time here I can only think of 3 times someone asked me for money, and two of them were other foreigners...
My girlfriend in Mindanao appears to have African ancestry, and she jokingly calls me 'white bread' because I am as white as a Lawrence Welk fan club. Maybe I should start a channel called "White Bread Filipino" LOL
I deeply appreciate this video..Im an American planning on going to the Philippines some day to see my girlfriend and we have talked about the possibility of us moving there some day. So I will be looking out for your videos and your wonderful tips. God bless you
I drove in Bacolod for two weeks with no issue. It’s not Manila I’m sure. But, I drove in São Paulo Brazil many years ago and I’m sure it’s as bad or worse than Manila. You can literally sit in traffic for an hour and go one city block! As I was told when the keys were given to me: “This is not the US, there are no rules only suggestions!”
My god wow 🤩 Well I remember lots of kids was begging me a lot of things in Philippines and I must run my wallet but I managed to survive are well and stay strong but so happy to see you again stay safe God bless you
The easiest way not to offend anyone while dining is to lie and tell them you’re a vegetarian- or you don’t eat certain types of meat or food. It’s understandable to not eat pork or be vegan.
That's my biggest challenge is I'm always 15+ minutes early for everything. In the PH, it's a hard habit to break. I'm always super early and I'm always waiting 45 min to an hour for things to start. Unless I'm going to the movies, I gotta learn to not be so dang early to everything.
Jay good video. Hey I had that same little kid say “what’s up my n…” to me when I was there. Needless to say I had to pull him aside and tell him not to use that word with people you don’t know.
Great Video , I think people should Have RESPECT for another Country , The People , the Culture and the LAWS of The Country and RESPECT all of these things . Just because you're not in your Home Country doesn't give you any right to not have Total Respect for This Country You're in . The Philippines is an Amazing Place .
I was in Manila in a street market and some kid said “wassup man””””a” while I was Video recording. Mi take no offense. I get disgusted however with these worthless rappers who perpetuate this nonsense tho.
Black man, l enjoy watching your informative TH-cam channel and l would love to do an collaboration with you. I have some great stories about meeting beautiful Philippine women on Filipino cupid.
Suggest getting a hotel room for maybe a couple nights and looking around the area, talking to locals esp the taxi drivers or uber drivers, they can give you great perspective on where the best places to stay based on what you expect out of the city.
@@keinlieb3818 is it easy to get hotels when there ? I want to book flights but they are up to 3k CAD . I’ve found some for just under 1k for round trip . I don’t want to spend 50-100 a night on hotel . I want something I can rent for 1 or 2 weeks at a time and check out the provinces and local life . I want to do Manila for 1 week to see it but I don’t need luxury all inclusive An tips
@@Wickedtingzz honestly when I come here I go with air bnb. You can find some pretty nice places for 1 to 2 weeks at a time or even a month at a time for roughly $25 to $50 a night and they are usually nicer than a hotel
@@keinlieb3818 nice . Ya I wanted to go there for a month or 3 week at least . I don’t necessarily need to island hop ( 2 days here , 3 days here , on the move all the time ) I want to relax and be able to explore on my time and not rush anything . I also want to be able to surf . Not sure about the gun laws but going to a gun range would be kool . I don’t really snorkel or scuba drive . Fishing surfing and checking out the provinces ( maybe I find a woman maybe I don’t haha ) . Bottom line I am not looking to spend 5,000 or anything . 2 k is the max I want to spend .. less the better as I don’t need to go shopping or any of that stuff . Strictly going to clear my head and relax / have fun and maybe meet some chicks . People say go to manilla or cebu city first so you can get used to the culture shock . I have lived in a city my whole life , big city with running clean tap water , unlimited hot water for showers and laundry / showers and toilets ( not looking for a squatting vacation or having to bathe with a bucket and ladle
@@Wickedtingzz not sure if this will be the place for you or not then lol. Even the nice places can be a little rough. I remember the last time going to SM mall, they didn't have toilet paper in the bathroom and you had to figure things out. This was a big fancy mall in Manila. Also, most places here you don't flush toilet paper because the sewer systems can't handle it. Philippines really is beautiful, but it is definitely a 3rd world country still and there's a lot they still need to fix. When I visit my inlaws in the province, there's no AC, everyone sleeps on the floor (except me because I bring an air mattress), sleep under a net to keep bugs from biting you. If you do come here, make sure you're expectations are reasonable. Manila and Cebu are nice. Boracay and Puerto Galera are some of the most popular beaches with decent infrastructure. 2,000 may not be a realistic amount for air bnb, food, and travel when you get out here. 30 days 25 a night is $750 US or $1k CAD. You'll probably be going out to eat a lot if not all the time so add another $900 for food and you haven't even gotten into travel and how taxi and tricycle drivers love to take advantage of foreigners. I think you might enjoy it, but you really gotta bring your expectations down a bit, especially on the expenses. I have a permanent place here and I spend roughly $2k a month and I don't go out to eat only 4 times a month.
