Its funny how back in the day when typewritting we were pretty fast and accurate. You had to type fast and put an extra effort each strike. So when computers keyboards came out it was funny how light those are. The clicky, strong and fast sound of an old typewritter its soooo cool and different and gives me live tingles.
I totally agree. I also find that the (sort of) white noise of a typewriter tends to nudge the imagination onward to the next word, the next sentence, the next paragraph, etc., whereas the relative silence of a computer keyboard can be almost debilitating.
And now, with linear mechanical keyboards, even the "light" membrane keyboards are too heavy. And I worked with manual typewriter, electrical (IBM), electronic (Olivetty), membrane keyboard, blue (clicly) switches and, now, linear ones (wth a tocky sound).
My grandpa was the only man in his little town in Mexico who owned a typewrite. People payed him a small fee to type in birth certificates or other legal papers, then he would send to be stamped or certified to the “city hall” my grandma still has his type writer. She refuses to give it or sell it to anyone it is so special.
When I was a kid, I would fall asleep to the sound of my dad writing his books on the old Olivetti. He types much faster than this, but this video is still very comforting, thank you! I'm still amazed that my dad could type 60wpm on an old mechanical typewriter. This is a lovely video, thanks so much for this.
My favorite ASMR is typing. I went to a very small grade school in Oregon, in the 1980s, and my first and second grade class rooms were just down the hall from the front office. I remember working on assignments early in the morning in the fall, the class would be dead quite, and all you could hear was the muted sounds of rain, and the lady in the front office typing away.
Definitely it's on top of "things I made on 2020 list"... I won a typewriter from a friend as a gift. I made the enough adjustments and put it working again. I replaced the ribbon, and it's given me the feeling for writing again. Indeed, this sensation of typewriting is the best ever !!!
I looked on Amazon and eBay but the shipping was super expensive, so I ended up searching through an antique store near me and finally found a fully functional and not totally ugly typewriter
I still use my grandpa' 1950 or 1960s portatil typewritter... And i actually use for work. Like for postsurgery note. But the best asmr effect, even live, its when you type fast and kinda hard each key... The best asmr live sound... No microphoning needed
I have a Royal Caravan Portable typewriter that was a present from my parents (remember the word parents?) I still use that today and nobody can cancel me. Anyway, I was 16 years old when I received my typewriter back in 1966. Yes, I'm that old! The typewriter is still like brand new with the case that when you open it up, you can smell the original smell it had back when I first opened the case in 1966! Recently, I got back into typing. I write letters to friends, relatives and other things. I don't do "facebook"...I am not interested when someone goes to the bathroom and small chit-chat...As I'm sure, nobody would be interested in what I'm doing...I feel typing a letter is more personal. The computer to me is just to cold. I don't text, I have a cell phone but really don't use it and many times leave the house without it because it is another thing that I would have to remember to carry and at my age, remembering things start to become a little challenging. The reason I got the typewriter from my parents is because at 16, I started taking typing class in high school. I figured that it would be the best way to meet a lot of girls! I was right too! because I was the only boy in a class of 30 girls! I actually met and became very good friends with this girl in class that was a part time model for 17 Magazine at that time. Anyway, as I'm writing this, I'm listening to you type away. I love typewriters (besides girls)...😂
