Sounds like d&d's talent tree and level mixing.

I have been playing on for... 18 years now... Second edition got me started.
4 and 5e were ... Underwhelming. I really liked your system from what i have seen so far

@georgesarreas5509 I'm really glad to hear that! I didn't get around to playing much of 2E but I've witnessed a decent bit of it, and I'd say the same; I hope Utopia treats you well!

So, I'll start by saying I've played D&D off and on for 30+ years now. While there are some valid points made, I think the railroading section really misunderstands the fundamental draw of D&D for a lot of us.
3.5 was built around the concept of multiclassing and there are very few reasons not to at least dip into 2 classes with 5e. The fact that you can plan out what classes would be best to be paired together, like if it's worth it to take that 3 level dip in warlock for your bard, makes it so there is so much more to your character decisions than what's written on a single class' skills block. This does lead to the balance issues as you mentioned, but nearly every game system has problems with that.
There's also nothing that says that your character and their resulting class doesn't change throughout your campaign. Dimension 20 does a good job of highlighting this concept by showing an inquisitive rogue shift to an arcane trickster while retaining that investigator mindset, or a life domain cleric switch to twilight through changing gods. Yes, each class has their specific abilities that don't change, but it's how you use those abilities that can make a big difference.
I also acknowledge that D&D is far from perfect. It can be horribly broken and can really set a new DM or failure if they have a min/maxer (as I admittedly tend to be). Pathfinder is overall better in practically every way, and there are many other good systems that are also easier for people to pick up and play, even with the simplifacation that 5e did with the rules.
That said, I really do like the concept of Utopia and watched the video for that before checking out this one, as well as downloading the materials to check out more deeply later. It does lead to a lot of customizability and a way to more fully control your character's growth as you directly level, but I don't think that's necessarily better than what D&D offers. It's a different style of play that I think has a lot of potential, though, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it progresses now that the Kickstarter is already funded.

That's honestly really fair! I think preference is always a predominate driving force, and I always do my best to respect that; I've played 5E for admittedly less time, and honestly I had fun all and all, I think my biggest gripe is the "respect" for creative decisions when it comes to playwr agency~
In my head, I feel like it's nice for a games mechanics to aid the players creative decisions, and i feel like that's kinda where 5e fell flat for me; however, there's possibly things that I'm unaware about or potentially just comes down to a different playstyle!
The goal with Utopia was to allow min maxing while still letting other players who prefer against it to play at the table together and still have fun, and i think it's gone well. If you do end up playing, I hope you enjoy! And thank you for the feedback!

Ok, I gotta hop in here. I've seen other games besides D&D that have a class system, and class systems can be better. My next game system after D&D is Fabula Ultima, and it's class system is way better in regards to overall character customization.
