    You should of mentioned Brad Zinker who designed this model. Brad has been on my radar for a long time and he has “so many” gentlemanly, Uber slicey, flippers & folders . You should check his customs out. As far as Boker, I’m with ya, they have always missed the mark on their premium knives for some reason. Tho Reate can make most anything premium if the design elements are there. I did love Boker’s Soligen, Germany “compact kwaiken” designed by the genius Lucas Burnley which was a titanium frame lock with cpm 154 satin finished blade with the titanium scales with a super cool finish which was coined “marbled titanium” which was soo good. Confucius says: If more manufactures strived for Reate quality their business would surely prosper. Just sayin 😊

    I have the longer version and absolutely love it. Big fan of Zinker in general. I did have some gritty feel in the pivot, and I had a hell of a time with reassembly (couldn't get the pivot screw lined up properly to save my life) eventually got it back together. I can also confirm that the pocket clip was way too tight. Aside from those things, it's gotta be my favorite knife when I'm feeling fancy

    Brad Zinker makes some of the nicest Gentleman's folders. The Civivi Bo you showcased in one of your videos a few days ago is from him as well.
    And his Customs are also very reasonable priced considering his reputation and how long he's been a knife maker and he always uses hollow grind on already thin blade stock which makes them crazy slicers and what a gentleman knife should be since it's not meant for hard use. I also always maximizes the blade to handle ratio which is awesome.
    I have a Custom Urban Barlow, same as the 2 identical that are on the video, but with regular flipper and in 3.5" blade.
    It's one of the very few Customs I have and I love it.
    He's also a very kind person and awesome to deal with.

    Boker is kinda like several companies in one. They have their cheap Asian made knives, and then there is still the division made in Germany that has been making high quality, and more expensive knives in that factory for a couple centuries now... Those tend to be more traditional in nature, the ones made in Solingen, but they are very high quality and well made.

    Not into front flippers but I can see people liking these as more of a gent knife, build quality looks on point (Reate after all) and the full hollow will make them great slicers. Just not my style is all. Thanks for the look see and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

    I like it, but the clip to me is way too large for the knife. It’s a slim flippy folder with a giant clip that is very wide and tall for the style of knife.

    Sorry to post on an ollllld vid, but KC put the K390 version of the smaller knife on sale, so I grabbed it. I can’t get my WIHA T6 bits in the body screws, I think they are actually T5, which I don’t currently have a bit or driver for. Other than that, agree with you assessment 100%. First Boker I will actually put in the rotation and I think I like it better than my production Pena.

      @@NeevesKnivesI'm with you on that one. I'm waiting for it to go on sale just because I have a few different custom Zinker front flippers and the price for the Bokers are pretty close to the price of the customs. If the BladeOps cocobolo gets below $275 I'll buy it, but right now - $375+ - no way... but I say no way just because I already have these knives in custom format. As soon as they're on sale, I'll definitely buy one because as far as looks, size, ergonomics, materials, opening action, action in general, etc these are as good as it gets for me. Just like you, these are exactly what I want especially if they would've used Brad Zinker's type of deep carry pocket clip.

    I wish both of the marble carbon models had the stonewashed finish. stonewashed always looked sleeker and better longterm. It is odd that a knife that is over $400 on their site doesnt have a sharpening choil though. Were these expected to never be sharpened and just be collector pieces? between the price, lack of sharpening choil, and the fact that the smaller one doesnt have the stonewashed finish i will probably have to skip depite these checking off so many of my boxes. Also, why are those pocket clips soooo wide?

    I know what you mean about what you normally see as far as Boker quality, and I’ve run into that, but back in the ‘80’s Boker made some very nice stuff. I have a Boker Tree Brand folder with sambar stag and polished brass bolsters from 1982 that’s one of the most beautiful knives in my collection, just incredible stag you don’t see anymore, that locks up like a vault.
    No flippers then, and the only knife production in the far east was Seki City, no Taiwan other than cheap pocket junk, and certainly no mainland China. All nail nick opening lockbacks straight from Germany.

      @@4d4mko Reate always run their steel around 61. I knew this was true for M390, and as far as they explained it's a "limitation on their side". Not sure how true that is or if they are not willing to push it further. But kinda strange running K390 at that also. Personally like to see it at 64-65, 63 would be "fine", but as close to 65 as possible. Wonder if they would run ZDP189 at 61 also 🤔

    • @4d4mko
      @4d4mko ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Cid_1 yeah, for a fixed blade it could be « understood » 61HRC, for a pocket knife 64-65 would be ideal! K390 at 61HRC is comparable to M390 at 61HRC… I am from France, I was tempted by this exclusive version but knowing that it is at 61HRC it is not worth the import charges…

      @@4d4mko Yeah I agree. Looking at Bohlers Tempering chart, 1030°C (1885°F) Aust and 525*c (975*F) tempering cycles should get that hardness. But it's still wild that it's so soft, maybe that's why they are $100 cheaper, I don't know. Reate usually does a great heat treatment even if their M390 hardness is still only around 61HRC. i’ve had a hard time purchasing a boker ever since the orange kwaiken i got and another knife i think was called “Kuhno” or something like that and later they had a auto version…. but those two knives ruined boker for me. like i understand their sob story, it’s too expensive to export their products and they have stringent local knife laws so that company has extra stress that other companies don’t have to deal with but even if you get past all of that they are disappointing. that 2012 orange g10 version was the first blade that i thinned and you could never tell that it was a hollow grind because it was so thick behind the edge. that knife sucked so bad that it forced me to geek out on it and that knife was so fun to modify and looks really cool after i snapped the tip off and turned it into a flipper by grinding down the corner of the frame but constantly fighting the ikbs bs and trying to tune that knife which has a “hydraulic feel” so the action just sucked so bad. and the other knife was just terrible, everything about it. i think they were able to move away from some of those issues but none of their designs have ever called to me since.

    I saw the KC exclusive version with k390 instead of m390 and was excited until I saw it was at 61hrc. That's so low for k390, it's like 57-58hrc for m390. Reate usually does a pretty good job with their heat treatment for production knives so I'm surprised they went so low on their k390.
    Shame cuz I would have been interested in it but I'll pass.

    432.95$ FOR A POCKET KNIFE!?

    • @watchreport
      @watchreport ปีที่แล้ว

      Pocket knives can go WELL beyond that price depending on maker and materials.

      @@watchreport oh I'm very aware, just seems unnecessary to me. Pocket knives are tools meant too be used. At those price points they just seem pointless.

    I mean ya I can't believe it's a Boker. Cause it's a Reate 😂.

    I don't trust Boker. Their QC is bad enough that almost every knife I have been interested in seems to have problems.
    I think there are plenty of front flippers out there from companies with a better QC track record than Boker.
    PS. 379 bucks on BHQ for the cocobolo wood version.

      I PUT LINKS IN TO THE DESCRIPTION, AND I WOULDNT TRUST THE QC EITHER IF IT WASNT REATE

    It's not a boker. It's a reate with boker branding

    Clip is too fat for a clean skinny knife in my opinion. That would be perfect with a titanium matchstick clip.

    Not gonna lie, as soon as I saw this knife I wanted this. But the price is so over the top compared to many better options out there
