How sad become the levantine city of Kavala (قولة) after the end of first world War, from a cosmopolitan and main port of the ottoman empire into an abondened marginal city in small country 😢 , it dramatically lost importance same like thessaloniki, Izmir, Alexandria, Beirut as other cities in the new century get prosperity instead
Levantine city? LOL Definetly not. It never was. Kavala is just the recent name of this city. It's original name was Neapolis - Νεάπολις (from Greek: New City. Founded by *Hellenic Settlers* over 2400 years ago). Later it was renamed into Christoupolis - Χριστούπολις (from Greek: City of Christ) in the 6th century during the (Greek Eastern Roman Empire) a.k.a. Byzantine Empire. At the end of the 16th century, during the Ottoman occupation and forced mass islamisation of the Christian Orthodox Greek & jewish population, the occupiers changed the city's name into Kavala.

Well there are no hostels in the city as far as I know, so your only bet is a hotel or a studio apartment.
