- Bicycle Vlog 10: ‘Bosna i Hercegovina’ - After climbing Steep Mountain (E.9) we cycle through beautiful and broad valleys, filled with the ruins of war that raged in this area of Bosnia 25 years ago. When we ask a farmer to sleep in his field he invites us to stay in his garden. Here we meet his lovely family and share a special moment. Once again the summer storms hit us with thunder, lightning and rain. On an exposed saddle we have to shelter under our groundsheet away from the trees to be safe. An ideal camp spot gives us some time to relax, prepare a sandwich breakfast and have some fun :.) After a break we head out on the Ciro-Trail, a converted old railway line that makes cycling possible higher up and through the mountains. We begin over a rocky path that leads us over sketchy looking bridges and tunnels full of bats!
To see, feel, smell, hear and taste everything the road has to offer will be so much different than watching a documentary or reading a book about it. Sometimes it will be difficult and most of the time fantastic. We hope you will find some inspiration in our video's and maybe fuel your dreams as so many other have done for us.

What a deepening ride we had through Bosnia and Herzegovina, a country we only knew from the newspapers and television. It gave us a new and positive perspective on past events. Has anybody had the same or related experiences?
Wheels to Wander Yes :). I loved the hospitality over there. It’s such a beautiful country with very warm people. Unfortunately with a very tragic history, there is no getting around it. (I visited Srebrenica on the bicycle as well: a young guy was joking about his neighbour ‘coming home in a shoe box’ (he stept on a landmine).)
Your videos are getting better and better. Great work guys, keep it up. Today we cycled past a refugee camp in Thailand for Burmese people. After hearing their stories, it was not just incredibly sad but very eye opening.

On a hitchhiking trip in Europe in 1956 I travelled by train on the old existing narrow gauge line from Ploce on the Adriatic coast to Mostar and on to Sarajevo . What an adventure trip that was . Many memories from a time when all was "peaceful" under the regime of Tito.

what are those handle bars called please? Bosnia looks amazing. How do you pack the bikes for flights between Countries, at airports etc. Do you find a bike box locally? Cooking equipment? can you take that on flights? Isn't it funny how yawning is contagious?
I met a couple on a tandem riding around the world. They had been married for 25 years now there married 45 years still ride a tandem, still very much in love! I see a tandem in your future.i see two very much in love, Its heart breaking for a long tour to come to an end! But its not the end its just a break. Time to start that book! mak ten more videos, make a list of where you want to go to next, start planing day 1 of your break. Rebuild your bikes, replace worn out gear. Don't let the fear of it all coming to an end! Remember Its just a break!...

Great video. Just found your channel. I was curious, is it just me or are there a lot of helicopter sounds in this? Not that it matters at all. Just curious.
Hi Sfeebab, thanks for telling us. We didn't notice it, at first I thought you meant the cricket sounds :-)! It seems that only one of our camera's records audio with this 'helicopter sound' you're talking about. I'm going to check the new footage of our trip, hopefully it was just this one time only!
We checked and it seems to be more pronounced on one camera/hotshoe mic setup (two identical camera/mic combo's) but both have it to some degree. The Sony A6000's that we film with can not take an external microphone so we have to make due with the hotshot option available, which works a treat with a deadcat for blocking the wind but doesn't seem to be very good with ambient noise. Now we have to figure out a way to reduce that oscillation! Thanks again, this helps us out to make better video's :.)

1-How did you guys choose the camping spots
2- How did you secure your backpack and stuff while walking around the cities you've visited?

Thanks :) We scout ahead in our navigation software for possible good spots and than check them out "in situ" if they are worth it. In cities one of us always stays with the bikes or we take a hotel/hostel to be able to walk around so everything is secure. Groet!!

Again a very nice movie, in this case Bosnia Hercegovina. To me the land appears a bit spooky on what I see in the movie, but I feel that people on the globe generally are hospitable and nice and you both always run into them. I think you're both giving us a realistic view of your experiences all the way. Nothing seems better or worse than this reality. That's the strong side of your video stories. For me I get a better view and feel of what plain and "normal" people are about, and its better than I expected!! With "spooky" I ment the scars of war, you also showed us! For that I'm gratefull, nothing in life is just sunshine! But as your journey is going on you give me (maybe us?) the feeling that this globe is containing a lot of fine people. Hey Funn, we don't have an answer to your question. We don't need this document and didn't hear from any other cyclists who did. At many border crossings they didn't even check our luggage. We did see a documentary about two motorcyclists making a world tour and made a BBC documentary series about it, they had those documents because it was for professional use. Maybe you can send someone like: Abhishek Kumar Sharma an E-mail to ask him as he is from the same country! :-)

We are using the Sony a6000 with a 18-105mm F4 lens and external mic as our main camera.

Hi what app do you use on your phone to find your way , do you download in advance the maps good luck from i hope soon a free Scotland.
We use Maps.Me on the smartphone and plot our routes mostly with Bikemap in advance online. Scotland! One off our favorite places 😃 good luck!
