      I got mine for $2 20 years ago, and have been carrying it ever since, as I roll cigarettes. Mine has an inscription, “to Helen, from the one who will always love you, Howard”. My lighter stopped working after years of working in kitchens, so I am giving it a thorough cleaning

      @NsertGenericUsername, very cool! You would wick a Mastercase just like a Standard but the fuel hole is sideways. You also need to be extra careful when replacing the wadding not to poke around too much and dent up the tank portion of the case from the inside.✌️

    Great video! Used your tricks to get a Mastercase bought off etsy working and lighting! I used a cat nail trimmer to cut the wick, it gave it a perfect cut and is very easy to use

    Nice video. I think mine is an older design. I have wondered, how do you replace the wick if ever needed?

    Thanks! This video was a great help. I have my great-aunt's Ronson Mastercase lighter she was given by her regiment when she left the Canadian Army in the late 1940s/early 50s. Is the alcohol you use rubbing alcohol? Please forgive the ignorant question, I'm not very experienced with repairs like this and I want to make sure I don't use something that will damage it. Sadly it does have the stuck flint problem, and I don't know if I am willing to tackle that, but I would like to clean the mechanism at least.

    1/16th, 3/32, are the smallest bits I use, but I recently started using a diamond burr bit for a dremel with an extra long shank (only about a quarter to half inch longer than normal) for getting the stubborn and extra hard stuck flints. But they can still take forever sometimes.

    So glad you have a video about this lighter. Just picked one up and I need to fix the lighting mechanism and drill out the flint too. The mechanism currently doesn't work correctly. Button doesn't compress all the way. It has the original box and felt bag with it in really good shape. These lighters are from the 1930s aren't they?

    I did the cleaning as you taped your repair. However, when the repairs are completed. However, no spark still happens. Could it be defective flint wheel. If so how do I order another one?

    I have a question, on the lighter I just picked up of this model, the “sponge” or “wick” material that is in the storage tank for the fluid is severely dry rotted. Any advice on how to get that stuff cleaned out and how to/what material would you stuff back down in there? Thank you for your time! My lighter has some very peculiar initials on it and I want to get it restored and working again.

    The lighter I have is missing the flint screw and spring. Would a person generally be able to find a replacement? Thank you for sharing these repairs, they are interesting. The lighter I have was in some of the collection of a hoarder, and instead of throwing it away I sat it aside to see if it could be made to work.

    Awesome video! I found an antique mastercase lighter similar to this and just replaced the flint, however, I wanted to ask what is used to refill the lighter. Is it butane? Or Zippo fluid? Thanks!

    • @DependableFlame

      Any petrol fluid like Zippo fuel will work.✌️

    Hey, Can you please tell me how to change cotton in this ronson mastercase where we put liquid fluid(Process)
    because there is no videos on TH-cam related to this thing.
    Thankyou

    Hey there, I picked up one of these ronson cigarette lighter cases from an antique store and I can’t seem to figure it out. I put new flint in it, it wouldn’t spark. Put fluid in it too, wouldn’t light. Drug the wick out and clipped that and it wouldn’t light either. Is there no hope for my 20$ lighter? 😂

      Did you clear the old, degraded flint from the flint tube?✌️

    Where do I find the Ronson redskin flints? Is there a zippo or other Ronson flints equivalent to these? From what I’m finding you can just get them vintage or used online.

    • @DependableFlame

      The Zippo or Ronson flints you can get on Amazon will work just fine:

    Hi,
    Is at also possible that the flint wheel is worn out? I've cleaned the flint tube but it still won't spark while the wheel is turning. Is there any quick fix for that?

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible it's worn out or the file wheel teeth are caked with old flint debris. It is also possible the clutch spring is your culprit. The key should be, can you see the file wheel turning?✌️

    • @MajinVegeta11
      @MajinVegeta11 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DependableFlame yes it does turn, and it somewhat scrapes of bits of the flint, but it seems there's not enough friction/speed to ignite a spark.

    How do you fix up a ronson mastercase with a fulcrum cap? Having a difficult time figuring out how clean the top

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may need a second screwdriver to get the cap separated from the fulcrum screw to get the mechanism off but everything else should be the same.✌️

  • @madarauchiha919
    @madarauchiha919 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a lighter, same mechanism. But I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong. Flint tube is totally clear button goes down just fine turns the gear. But the spark wheel won't move at all. Thought maybe the flint wasn't hitting then I put 2 in. And nope still won't spark. The flint it touching the wheel, the wheel just won't move no matter what I do.

    • @DependableFlame
      @DependableFlame  ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like your clutch spring is out of position, missing or failing to work properly.✌️
