Beautiful Glendalough Valley Lakes in Wicklow Ireland | Upper and Lower Lakes

Glendalough Valley, situated within the Wicklow Mountains National Park, offers a range of attractions to delight and captivate visitors. From the Monastic Site featuring a Round Tower to its lakes and valleys, it truly is a stunning location. Additionally, Glendalough provides walking paths and trails, such as the Wicklow Way and showcases a diverse array of wildlife and plant species.
The highlight of Glendalough is its century monastic settlement established by St. Kevin. Many of the existing structures date back to the 10th century. Despite facing Viking raids over time, Glendalough flourished as one of Ireland's centres and centres of knowledge until it was razed by the Normans in 1214 A.D. Fortunately, remnants of this site still stand for us to appreciate today.
Enclosed within a wall is Glendalough monastery. Also known as "the city of the seven churches”. It features a circular arch constructed with Roman-style columns, where stones were precisely cut to fit together without mortar support. The structural integrity relied on every stone in place; removing one stone would result in its collapse.
The charming gateway holds the distinction of being the remaining instance, in Ireland, of a gateway leading to an early monastic city.

Another great Video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻... I have been going to Glendalough since I was a child.. Years ago in the early 1970s when I was a child we camped there ( unfortunately) you cannot camp there anymore.. We used to call it OUR VALLEY. We as a family still go and visit every year in summertime.. It really is, a special place for my Family.. We love it 💚☘️🇮🇪
