I looked a bit on the Japanese side of things, and found that for the most part they were just as clueless and curious about the lost scenario as we in the west are. Indeed, a few of them even questioned if _we_ might know or have preserved more about it than they seem to have, as Silent Hill is ironically more popular in the west than east. Even in Japan, the shounen scenario is considered mysterious, as few people are even aware of it to begin with. Play Novel isn't all that well-regarded there, with some users commenting that it was tedious while others felt it was far too short. I was able to find a (very) rough summary of the trajectory of the plot as it is generally understood (or at least rumored) to have been composed, however. Spring: Covers Andy's initial pursuit of Cheryl. Summer: Andy reunites with Cheryl and runs away with her from the town's dangers. (I speculate this is where the scene from Cybil's perspective would take place.) Autumn: Alessa is encountered and Andy gets jerked around by the nature of who Cheryl and Alessa are. Winter: Andy refuses to abandon Alessa, and confronts Incubus as she dies. It is apparently hinted that Andy may be a figment akin to Lisa. This is, of course, the barest minimum details, and I myself can't be sure of its veracity. It seems to reflect the digital cards the four episodes would grant, but by the same token, it may've been based on knowledge of those four cards ("First Sight" - Andy looking out the window, "Escape" - Andy and Cheryl running together, "Love" - Andy and Alessa together, and "Incubus" - no image). Assuming it is true, it seems that this scenario was actually meant to be a sort of "Cheryl/Alessa" scenario following what Cheryl and Alessa were going through and delving deeper into their thoughts and feelings throughout the story, but from the outside perspective of Andy so as to avoid disrupting the mystique surrounding Alessa as a character. Oh, and one particular comment I found that made me laugh was "Andy has potential as a stalker." I'll be looking for more info and will post again if I can find anything more concrete. Much like this video, it seems quite a bit of the discussion surrounding this topic has actually only been stirred up relatively recently.
@@mattmolloy636 I wish I could find anything more concrete to share, but the mobile adapter service ended literally a year after release. Insofar as there are people talking about the game at all, there's not exactly a shortage of stories in reviews and on old forums here and there about how they picked it up in the latter 00s and tried to collect all the digital cards, got frustrated with missing the last four, and then learned it was impossible. Even if it's a poorly known niche title that didn't sell or review particularly well, and even though the mobile adapter service was itself unpopular, it's hard to imagine _not a single soul in all of Japan_ was around to experience it. In the first place, you'd have to be a big fan of the first game to buy Play Novel at all, right? And the first game _was_ in fact really quite popular at the time, to the extent SH2 was criticized in Japan for diverging too far from it, thus leading to SH3. But even accounting for all of the people who were weeded out of potentially playing the Boy Scenario simply because the game turned them off, surely there was _somebody_ for whom the stars aligned to play the lost content while it was available. And because such a person would have to be such a big fan, they probably went on the Internet and discussed it with other fans somewhere at the time. But if they did, it's entirely possible that those discussions were themselves lost as threads were purged and web hosts expired. All that's left is rumors and memory and a lot of griping about the inability to total clear the game. I think at this point we're as likely for a developer or playtester (although unless someone went uncredited, it seems those two groups are the same 18 people) to come forward and give more info as finding a reliable overview from the fans. That, or there is an outright leak of internal Konami documentation, although considering how poorly kept crucial things like the finished source code to every Team Silent game was, even that may be impossible. It appears the scenario writer, Hideki Sakamoto, is actually an industry veteran with a godlike number of credits under his belt (albeit rarely for scenario writing lmao) who is still involved in game development to this day, although it has been over two decades, and if Toby Normoyle, who is infinitely more qualified than me, hasn't felt the urge to ask him over twitter yet, it's probably barking up the wrong tree.
I had done a lot of searching for info in Japan as well. Sad part is I was still living in Japan when the Spring and Summer scenarios were available, but I never bought the GBA to cell phone adaptor. Most of the info I put on GameFAQs for the Spring scenario years ago came from the strategy guide for Play Novel Silent Hill when I was working on translating the game. Even back then I found nothing on Japanese sites, so I am glad to see people are still searching. When the Lost Memories guide came out and barely mentioned Play Novel Silent Hill that is when I lost all hope, but I am glad to see that people like you are still searching!
Maybe the story of Andy is somewhat parallel to that of Laura in Silent hill 2, as in, someone who knew someone important in the town gets drawn by the supernatural forces and gets to have a closure with that them. That's just my speculation.
Laura is also ambiguous regarding her presence in SH, even if it's related that she's never concerned regarding the manifestations of the city. But for Andy, his motive is to stay with Cheryl, and as for Harry, he has to travel into the fog world during the story. But as it is a whole mystery to uncover, all theories are possible.
@@residentevil094 it’s actually dependent on who is in SH…. The reason Laura never saw any monsters or darkness when she was in Silent Hill was because she was technically innocent and at that time the town had generated itself based on the guilt, dread, and sin of James, Angela, and Eddie. Laura never really got sucked into the darkness.
Thats not the state of the town during the events of SH 1,so no,noone gets drawn to it other than Cheryl due to Daliah's spell to reunite both halves of Alessa, its only after the end of SH1 that the spiritual energy of the town starts to do weird things by itself.
But in Silent Hill 1 the whole thing is Alessa's nightmares twisting reality. The town calling the mentally unwell starts in 2 when Alessa has disappeared leaving her influence upon the town, acting like a single individual.
I have done a lot of searching on The Boy over the years, but I never did find anything more than Kageryushin did. After I finished the translation of Harry and Cybil's scenarios and put them on GameFAQs I was hoping someone might reach out, but I got very few communications. (Some of that was my fault, I had an old email address linked for far too long and lost a few messages that included excellent feedback.) It was nice to meet up with a few of the old fans a few years back when they provided me with a Japanese text dump of the game. I was a little surprised how many kanji I had misread, but that screen was small and even my Japanese friends sometimes had trouble reading the kanji! While we produced a much better translation and cleaned up all the silly errors, sadly no news of The Boy came out of their analysis of the rom. Seeing this video reminds me that I really need to take the new translation and put it into guides on GameFAQs. Thanks for posting and keeping the hunt for The Boy's scenarios alive!
Dang, it's terrible that we most likely will never know. There's a low chance that anyone that worked on it will talk about it, anyone that managed to play it would remember, or Konami to have it saved (as it's likely it was lost back when they lost a bunch of Silent Hill stuff).

They should definitely have chosen this as the 1st remake. There's so much more going on ( and therefore room for expansion and explanation than 2). I think the remake of 2 is on thin ice, any changes or expansion is probably going to upset more than a few people.

When the mobile phone feature was mentioned i thought it was about this mobile game konami published in 2007 (silent hill orphan) but then remembered the play novel was released in 2001 so that wouldn't really work. But i have to say silent hill orphan is barely known amongst fans of the franchise and I've yet to see anyone talk about it.
Oh, I remember that game! It was fairly solid for a point-and-click mobile title. There was also a second game of that genre on java, confusingly named Silent Hill 2. Couple things I recall about it: - The game took place in a hospital of some kind and you had to find a way out. - You played as someone named Vincent who, sadly, is just a name-sake of a character from SH3.
That Is so so interesting and so niche. Kudos for creating such an interesting video about something that is essentially just lost to time now, that 90s/early 2000s time window when data wasn't backed up or archived, and presumed to just be unimportant. Really enjoyed this one 🙂
the only two human beings mentioned as devs for this are two composers who apparently wrote the game - Sakamoto Hideki & Yamaoka Akira, maybe they'd remember? doesnt seem like anyone talking about this online has actually reached out to them
@RandoLePerson He's actually right. Most people miss that the game play in Silent Hills was never intended to resemble PT. PT was strictly a promotional tool to raise awareness for Silent Hills, but there were never any plans to create a full-length PT. I think that's what this comment is referring to.

That's very hard to create a theory based on Andy but the issue is this character is never heard again on any sequel or spin-off. I'm so curious about this whole lost Silent Hill media. Andy story being forgotten in a horror game in real life is kind of a horror story itself. I wish there's was a way of knowing more about his story, but I guess it's completely gone forever.
the concept and everything about this it would interesting bring to life nowadays in some way maybe an extra scenario in silent hill 2 remake? well i think that never gonna happened unfortunately but really is a shame.
Maybe Alessa could sense Andy wanted to be friends with Cheryl and since she is her other half she could have wanted to talk to him? Or maybe Alessa was like: You don't belong here...
I prefer silent hill point and click style that made for Nokia phone before touch screen exists. That game give me a chilling experience while explore the house.
it's such a shame about silent hill we love these games yet we never get any, I know we are getting 2 remade but I would love to see a brand new silent hill on the next gen consoles.
Well, lucky for you (or us) there is a new Silent Hill in the makings named "Silent Hill F", this one seems to have it's main story set outside the US though. The remake of 2 doesn't make me entirely happy, not the concept of a movie about it possibly being in the works as well... I love Silent Hill but it seems like every time they make something for the franchise it just keeps on pushing it further down into the mud :´) but damn if I ain't a sucker for the kind of horror it presents... Hoping for the next projects to bring back what the first few games made me feel when I first stumbled upon them
It's incredible that how much the SH Play Novel adds extra storyline where the PS1 original didn't shown. Andy's story is very interesting and yet very sad. The fact that he wanted to be friends with Cheryl.
This is why the first silent hill needs a proper remake I think so much can be done and can be added with todays graphics and technology they can make a masterpiece out of the first game
😂 no No this masterpiece needs to be left alone remakes ruin everything and it feels like theft to me especially theft of remaking other people's work, so I strongly disagree this game doesn't need a remake, it could do with an upscale remaster and port it to ps5 that would be fine but no such remake needs to exist.
NO. Leave SH1 alone. The first game is ALREADY A FUCKING MASTERPIECE. It's the best SH game for a reason. Does the "old graphix" filter GenZ plebs? Good.
I didn't know that this game was lost media, i played this game in a GB advance collection for a Xbox (hack). I remember that I never completed a puzzle with red squares.
Konami didn't even have access to the finalized version of Silent Hill 2 for the collection because it got misplaced. High doubt they'd care enough to keep the Gameboy adaptations files secure.
I definitely remember seeing stills of this in a gaming magazine. Was especially excited to get Cybil’s scenario since RE2 set a high standard for playing parallel storylines and wanted to see how Konami handled the concept even if this was completely different gameplay from SH1.
I could have sworn all the plot details for each scenario were known, as I have this extremely vague memory of a guide on Gamefaqs about the Play Novel, and how it mentioned the endings, though checking the page there now shows incomplete guides, so I'm either mistaken or the guide I saw was taken down. I know in the Cybil path, it has a rather mind screw ending in which Cybil apparently died prior to the game, her crashed bike meaning she perished somewhere on the road prior to Harry swerving out of the way of Alessa. However, we know that Cybil's status was left up in the air, since either the Good or Good+ endings of SH1 are equally valid canon to SH3. In the case of the boy, Andy, I swear I heard somewhere, either on Gamefaqs as I mentioned, or perhaps a forum, as I have memories of perusing some Silent Hill themed forums in the early 2000s. Most I recall was something about Andy being dead, having presumably died in the crash when Harry swerved off the road. Either way, it's definitely a shame when these ARG style titles have less consideration for preservation than the main medium, meaning these things are probably 100% gone unless the tool used to broadcast those downloadable contents can be tracked down and reactivated.
I never knew this even existed. Back in the early 2000s I'd go and check out the GBA section on a pretty regular basis when I got paid and I never seen this stocked at my local Walmart, Kmart, Shopko or Gamestop.
Konami actually tried to patent the term "Visual Novel" with this game. Luckily they failed. Typical Konami behaviour. That is why they ended up calling it a Play Novel as many other companies were already using the term visual novel since it was popularized by the adult VN company Leaf in 1996. Before then Chunsoft had single handedly created the genre of VN horror fiction with St John's Wort, but they called them Sound Novels, to highlight all the sound effects they had added to improve the reading experience.
One way to play it again officialy, would be the fans pushing konami to re-release this scenario as an unlockable in one of the new silent hill they they're gonna release, like they used to do with the other silent hills, if you fulfill some requirement in game you can unlock this boy's scenario to play, that would be nice.
It still sounds like an awesome third scenario that would flesh out the first game, but odds of it being preserved by a third party are next to none unless some Japanese player with the mobile accessory at least wrote up a guide for the remaining 3 scenarios. Its easier to imagine Konami still has the assets on a disk or hard dive somewhere assuming they didn’t dump them like other developers did during the late 90s-2000s. At least they can get in touch with the writer to recreate the scenario as best they can. But the odds of that happening aren’t high unless they decide to do a Master Collection or come up with some excuse to officially sell Play Novel: Silent Hill in the west.
Reminds me of this Legend of Zelda kinda-remake that cannot be played any more since it was kinda offered for download only, and only in Japan, way back when downloading games wasn't really a thing yet... Aah I don't remember specifics, maybe someone else knows what I'm talking about. So sad to see games getting lost like that.
You mean the Broadcast Satellite games, which were only available for a certain time of day on a certain TV channel. The download only example was the anniversary edition of the first Four Swords, which was released worldwide twice, once for the anniversary and a second due to positive reception. Unlike this however all of these have been properly preserved by fans and are playable with some edits for the Broadcast Satellite games to account for the real time aspects. Andy's story *only* has the first part preserved, which annoyed me to no end when I got to play it myself.
There isn't any GameBoy that can have it after 20 years. The game came out in 2001 for the original GameBoy Advance, a model that used AA batteries, not a rechargeable one. The GameBoy Advance SP, which had a rechargeable battery, came out on 2003, but by then the service would've been taken down.
i like how some SH fans are in the search for andy like how harry was in the search for cheryl lol it would be interesting for the sake of seeing another part of silent hill, and maybe see if andy sees monsters too or not like luara in SH2 just cuz he's a normal kid, but seeing how he hasn't been acknowledged outside of this game in the others i'm going to assume it wasn't that significant. it might give more insight for cheryl and alyessa seeing their personality and behaviors, maybe their perspective into what's going on. i'd be curious of andy's fate too or if he was just a "memory" like lisa was. also it makes me wish konami would focus on bringing this back rather than just remake SH2 but they're all about the benjimans ig. seems every SH game gets some attention than the first one and thats a shame.
This is possibly rarer than PT. You can buy PlayStation consoles with PT on it, however there are 0 Gameboy consoles with this scenario on (that we know of!)

You're very welcome! I hope you enjoyed. Lots more coming soon :)
@@SilentHillside heck yeah!! I can't wait
the concept and everything about this it would interesting bring to life nowadays in some way maybe an extra scenario in silent hill 2 remake? well i think that never gonna happened unfortunately but really is a shame.
"Have you seen my expansive port?"
Someone had to preserve this. Enough attention gets brought to it I'm sure they release the files.
Yep. Etsy.
It was only available for a year and was deleted from your handheld the moment it turned off, the chances of it being preserved are very very small
@tomutoo well hopefully the small amount of people that preserved it will release the files one day so everyone can experience this side story.
I just love how all these new scenes and Andy are rendered like in SH1... It's almost like seeing scrapped stuff from the first game.
Great video! 🤍
such an amazing vid, mate. Andy Looks proper creepy!
always wished the phone connector was available here. Pokemon Crystal also has features for it
Andy seems interesting. Might give some more light about alessa's personality. We know almost nothing about her...
What if Andy is the son of Alessa
I've known the universe of sh since 2005 and this is the first time I hear about this. Great channel
Silent Hill has to be remade, and include this chapters (cybils and andys) as DLC or maybe as extra content from day 1
Fuck no. Leave my SH1 alone.
Modern day DEmakes are disgusting, insulting trash.
This is my first time of hearing about this Silent Hill game
it's such a shame about silent hill we love these games yet we never get any, I know we are getting 2 remade but I would love to see a brand new silent hill on the next gen consoles.
Hoping for the next projects to bring back what the first few games made me feel when I first stumbled upon them
Dang that's crazy I wish I'd known more about this game
Is there no way to contact the person(s) responsible for writing/creating Andy's scenario? Surely they could reveal all!
It's incredible that how much the SH Play Novel adds extra storyline where the PS1 original didn't shown. Andy's story is very interesting and yet very sad. The fact that he wanted to be friends with Cheryl.
Ohh, your videos are just awesome, thanks so much for your labour and for this channel ❤❤❤
Good.
@@GugureSux you can stick to the old one no one will force to play the remake if there will ever be one and let’ us play enjoy it
@@GugureSux 👍👍👏 yes we must protect SH team silent games all this remakes obsession is out of control and we don't need remakes in the SH fandom.
@@mserdar8247 it will never happen remakes are bad for the future of games.
I didn't know that this game was lost media, i played this game in a GB advance collection for a Xbox (hack).
I remember that I never completed a puzzle with red squares.
That sucks that it self deleted when it was disconnected. I'm sure someone at konami, has access to the original code....:(
Konami didn't even have access to the finalized version of Silent Hill 2 for the collection because it got misplaced. High doubt they'd care enough to keep the Gameboy adaptations files secure.
It’d be amazing if the Silent Hill 1 remake inculded Andy’s entire scenerio as either a NG+ or just straight up part pf the canon story
thank u for these vids 💜
I definitely remember seeing stills of this in a gaming magazine. Was especially excited to get Cybil’s scenario since RE2 set a high standard for playing parallel storylines and wanted to see how Konami handled the concept even if this was completely different gameplay from SH1.
First time watching your channel. You just got a new subscriber. Great videos!
Makes me think of all the game scenarios or levels that were limited editions that we’ll never see again
awesome content man it piqued my curiosity back.
Plot twist, Andy does have an intensive backstory. It’s all recounted in the legend “Toy Story”.
Just like a Silent Hill game that gives people more questions to a number of things without much answers too :3
I never knew this even existed.
Recognised the West Country accent and subscribed
One way to play it again officialy, would be the fans pushing konami to re-release this scenario as an unlockable in one of the new silent hill they they're gonna release, like they used to do with the other silent hills, if you fulfill some requirement in game you can unlock this boy's scenario to play, that would be nice.
Never say never
Now I want a full blown Silent Hill game playing as a child!
Given that they lost the source code for SH2, I doubt they kept any data from this game. :(
Reminds me of this Legend of Zelda kinda-remake that cannot be played any more since it was kinda offered for download only, and only in Japan, way back when downloading games wasn't really a thing yet...
Someone, somewhere has a dump of this. They just need to see this video, and know that people care.
The dump publicly available and has been for years probably
What they need to do , to bring andy back to life, is to add an andy chapter to a silent hill remake if one ever releases
that fucking siren scared the shit outta me
There isn't any GameBoy that can have it after 20 years. The game came out in 2001 for the original GameBoy Advance, a model that used AA batteries, not a rechargeable one. The GameBoy Advance SP, which had a rechargeable battery, came out on 2003, but by then the service would've been taken down.
There were rechargeable battery packs available for it, though, replacing the AAs.
I remember this game! I almost got it on my Ipad when I was younger. I randomly think about how it tried to make Cheryl fleshed out but didn't really.
This might have been linked to original story writing connected to main story line sad
i like how some SH fans are in the search for andy like how harry was in the search for cheryl lol
it would be interesting for the sake of seeing another part of silent hill, and maybe see if andy sees monsters too or not like luara in SH2 just cuz he's a normal kid, but seeing how he hasn't been acknowledged outside of this game in the others i'm going to assume it wasn't that significant. it might give more insight for cheryl and alyessa seeing their personality and behaviors, maybe their perspective into what's going on. i'd be curious of andy's fate too or if he was just a "memory" like lisa was.
also it makes me wish konami would focus on bringing this back rather than just remake SH2 but they're all about the benjimans ig. seems every SH game gets some attention than the first one and thats a shame.
At this point that might have been the better thing that happened to this series.
I never knew he was a playable character at all
Great video! Can you make a video about the movie adaptations!
This story gave me PTsd.
The police investigators discovering pieces of a dismembered child 5:06
It's sad that the game was lost because of a gimmick, basically
Is this the Gameboy advanced game that was put out in Japan in a physical cart?
Ngl a play novel silent hill on the gba is an extremely hard sell.
might also be worthwhile asking some japanese people selling the GBA cartridges online if they played these chapters back in the day
So much stuff lost in this franchise, even the final version of SH2 was lost and the remake for PS3/Xbox had to be based on an earlier one.
Outro musics a banger
Never? I have it on my PC, downloaded it years ago
That's impressive! Would you mind recording some footage of Andy's scenario, as there is none on the internet at all.
@@SilentHillside I'll see what I can dig up. Stay tuned

So PT and Silent Hills
This is possibly rarer than PT. You can buy PlayStation consoles with PT on it, however there are 0 Gameboy consoles with this scenario on (that we know of!)
@@SilentHillside In a unlocked PS4 you can also download it just not from Sony
so angry with the exclusivity......
Where/ how did you get that cinematic free-cam view of the town?
It's really weird for a CHOA story to allow you to choose what happens, instead of just choosing what you do.
PT was canceled for a reason and i bet its because it was too scary
I have the play novel but it’s in Japanese 😭
there's romhack for that!!
At least you have it, pretty much use Google translate while playing it

Basically a Separate Ways of RE4 type story, but it's just my opinion
