in an age of hyperactive in your face, fast paced, quick cut TH-cam videos, the stuff you make is so refreshing to see. And it always looks fantastic too.
Seeing the diffusion ramp was pretty amazing actually. Way more interesting than I expected it to be. Thanks for showing off some of the other gear too!
the lumen arc looks like a way better product than I expected, especially regarding the weight and also the fact that it diffuse but not ''stop down'' as much as an equivalent diffusion, plus the benefit of the in camera effect that you can achieve while going going up in filtering, great video as always!
It might be just me, but whenever I see a really well lit face (no harsh shadows, proper key and fill light, etc.), specially in outside shots, it brings my disbelief back a little, I can't help but imagine a dude with a reflecting panel crouching below the frame
Hey! Just wanted to tell you thanks for your great videos. I've learned so much! You're so good at conveying the principles and the methodology behind lighting. I can't wait for your next video and I REALLY look forward to your lighting class you're working on. Cheers from Los Angeles!
Nice vid. Heads up: the LiteCloth 3.0 is easiest and fastest - in my experience - built flat on a blanket, then clip the frame, then softbox from the top of the frame, diffusion, and grid. I was traveling with it late last spring/early summer through the US, and realized this after the first rounds of interviews. All was butter afterwards.
Great vid, I think this product is cool for people that do a lot of interviews. I have a dilema when using small diffusions I prefer to cover really big spaces. This is more for the every day.
Another great video. I know it's a boring topic but I'd recommend a video on all the c-stand stuff. The different clamps and accessories that help you create different shots. Idk could be interesting though.
😅 I literally checked your channel yesterday, because I realised you had not post in a while (and I wanted to see some QUALITY on TH-cam ❤) Happy surprise in my feed this morning!
Active diff !? That is other worldly - as someone who likes skinning frames I hope my 4x cart doesn’t get replaced w these - as cool as a thing that it is
To be honest, i dont think the active diffusion is noticeable at 50%, but I do kinda like how it warms up the light locally... It matches the warmer tones in the trees behind you. You couldn't really do that easily in post. It looks too warm at 100% though.
de die frame is interesting but In my opinion its not a substitution to a normal gel frame yet, I guess it can be used as a WD range but there are so much more diff kinds of Dif like soft frost, silk, brushed silk... and I guess the light lose will be quit a lot, a normal wd gel frame dose not have such a extra color change and the main factor is, you often need quit a lot of frames and for that they are to expensive and techy ate the moment. but its a cool kind of new lighting tech
I'm at 3:30 and I don't know how much this product costs yet, however I reckon I know enough to know I wouldn't want to see that thing turn into a sail in even a medium wind and fall onto a hard un-even surface. And for what gain, a couple minutes to change a little diffusion on a stand.
This tech (Lumen Arc Active diffusion )is from like the Iced windows you see in some corporate windows or some peoples houses. This is also the tech Sony uses in their FX6 Electronic NDs. There is i believe 2 sheet of material(glass or something else idk) that has something between in it that reacts to electricity which is why a battery is required to use this. When the tech sends electricity through that glass and it hits the reactive material in between it becomes more Clear. Its like moving the Atoms of the material really quickly, the more electricity sent through the quicker the atoms move the more the atoms move the more clear that window, electronic ND or in this case Diffusion becomes Its something along those lines this was probably a bad explanation but i tried lol.
The LumenArc looks really cool, but I wonder if it is really that much easier than traditional frames? I could see it being handy if you only had space to pack one 40x40 frame.
yea, I was thinking that it made rather a lot of sense from an environmental/waste standpoint but that's assuming it stands the test of time because I am sure the manufacturing is wasteful. It would be interesting to map our the return on investment if you averaged out your diffusion consumables over a year. @@Nellbow
Amazing tech!!! Question for ya mate, what's the mast that you use in the interior scenes that you hang the Dooplo on? It's like a pressure rod system that goes from wall to wall. Seems like a must have. Got a name for it?
Can someone PLEASE explain to me the tech behind how it works? All of the videos just gloss over it and talk about how to use it for lighting but how does it go from almost clear to diffused??
As someone who happen to know the price of electronic variable opacity glass panels (roughly $100 for the similar 40x40 size), i find the $3299 price astronomical :O
This diffuser frame must be how Boeing 787 window shades work. There was also an elevated train I rode in Japan many years ago that had windows like this - they would go diffused/translucent as the train passed close by apartment windows, then back to transparent so you could see out as normal over the city. It's not new technology at all.
super cool. will this company offer different types of diffusion? still would like to get different looks different quality of light beyond just the diffusion level
USD $5200 or the LumenArc? A little exxy. Pretty cool though. It would be a hell of a lot Cheaper and not a lot more difficult to have pre-skun frames of your favorite 2 or 3 grades of diffusion. Where the LumenArc would come into it's own is rigging it in difficult to reach places where changing the frames would be a pain in the ass but remotely controlling the LumenArc would be a piece of piss. Or fading the diff level during a take for a special effect. Like a fake timelapse moving from overcast to sunny. Thanks for showing it of Lewis.
Future filmmakers: all skipping their aputure lights and going all in on "active diffusion" haha -"Could you brighten things up a touch?"- -> "Could you diffuse a lil' less?"
$3300 for a 4x4 that is overcomplicated enough that I have to worry about it working on the day? And gauging from the unboxing, it does not break down. So, big, probably fragile, needs a battery, and 3300 bills... what do I know. They'll probably sell a million of them next week.
in an age of hyperactive in your face, fast paced, quick cut TH-cam videos, the stuff you make is so refreshing to see. And it always looks fantastic too.
true
that transition between hard and diffused looked SO surreal, I had to watch it several times
I absolutely love this, and love the subtle close up on the 'fragile' sign that has been destroyed by shipping
Seeing the diffusion ramp was pretty amazing actually. Way more interesting than I expected it to be. Thanks for showing off some of the other gear too!

Yea, I think the optimal is something like 80% where there's a nice soft fill, but the harsher sun shadow is also slightly visible
I agree partly, but almost all people won’t notice it, because they usually don’t stop to think about the lightning and if it makes sense…
@@nikilragav yep 50%/80% is nice, the full 100% is blargh maybe indoors but damn the 50% is nice sweet spot for me
The king has returned!
Been a while since hardware blew my mind. This is pretty damn amazing!

I saw this kind of technology a long time ago in a 5d Newsshooter video, I think. I'm glad to see it come to life! This is amazing!

2 seconds in already saving this to a playlist :D
bangers only from Lewis !
The perfect gear review ^^^ put it together and show what it’s like using it ✅
Makes so much sense this tech made it to the filmmaking world, in such a cool way too!
This is amazing. Really like the way you take us through the lighting. Thank you Lewis.
1:57 got me good. Welcome back brother
Wow! That frame is incredible. I look forward to the day it’s more common and the price can be more like $1000 rather than $3,000+. Super cool tool
Sick tools! Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Love these fixtures and accessories, thanks for sharing!
this was the first video i watched from you and i gotta say i absolutely loved it
you can get this effect by moving the light toward a diffuser or take it far from it
Oh hey, Lewis. That Diffusion frame is coooool
My favourite aussie on the tube!
Great vid, I think this product is cool for people that do a lot of interviews. I have a dilema when using small diffusions I prefer to cover really big spaces. This is more for the every day.
That’s so crazy watching it change from soft to harsh! 😮
how’s the output on the light cloth compared to something like a Litemat 4 plus?
Another great video. I know it's a boring topic but I'd recommend a video on all the c-stand stuff. The different clamps and accessories that help you create different shots. Idk could be interesting though.
I didn't even know these things existed. Great demonstration.

I missed you, we all did Lewis welcome back

Heck yeah Lewis! Looks great dude!
“ Well…I don’t really know”. That was great. 😀
I've been waiting for this notification for months!
That's all pretty amazing stuff, would love to mess around with more lighting and diffusion gear
It was the sfx while you turned the light horizontal for me 😂🤌🏽
why do houses in Perth always have creeky doors?
Very impressive tool. I’m not sure I’d be interested in yet another tool that needs a battery but I can see it being very useful.
The goat returns!
Insane! Excited for the gear of the 'Future'
Hi Lewis! Love the colors! May I ask what picture profile do you use to achieve those colors and if you sell luts?
Literally came to the channel yesterday thinking "Where has Lewis been?"

Y'see....with Lewis and @gafferandgear, you've got it all sorted 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Liquid crystals. Has been available in windows for years. Would love it in my studio windows.
LumenArc what the actual heck haha so cool
Looks super handy, and even stylish. But for the price point, it's something you'd really NEED in order to invest in one
2:25 When you turned the knob to 100 my mouth hit the floor wtf
Nice. Question, the wallspreader. How safe are they to use? And do they damage walls?

OK, wow. This is the product I didn't know I needed.

I assume it's work with some "electroshocks" like polarized airplanes widows ?

2:38 that's so crazy. Image just completely changes in complexion. Seems like 50% isn't bright enough
Can u share color grading process of this video will help alot thanks
1:50 was gold hahahaha
What is the name of that dolly + offset extension used in the last BTS frame?
Panther classic
thank you Brother 🥰 Love from Nepal.

Totally agree, I also wonder if it gets scratched what happens then.

It’s called an Autopole
Hey Lewis, you mentioned you dont like using the div in sunlight outside as it looks too fake, whats your go to then to cut the sun ?
A very light amount of dif or none
Thanks Lewis! Could the Intellytech be used for travel on docs as a key for sit-down interviews?
Yeah I used the original one for that all the time
Sweet! Appreciate it.@@lewispotts
Lewis, the colors look fantastic on this video! Are you grading with Filmbox by any chance?
ouh that variable diffusion frame looks like it's from the future 👀
Smartglass/Switchable glass been around for a while 👍
What are the poles called that you use to hold up the light socks/titan tubes? I kept searching the comments to find if someone else had asked
Autopole
Can someone PLEASE explain to me the tech behind how it works? All of the videos just gloss over it and talk about how to use it for lighting but how does it go from almost clear to diffused??
what's the boom stand you're using for the Litecloth?
Kupo junior boom

They’re called three legged thing, I would not recommend. Terrible design
super cool. will this company offer different types of diffusion? still would like to get different looks different quality of light beyond just the diffusion level
This is AMAZING tech!
The next breakthrough that would make this obsolete would be a dial on the the light source to control it's intensity. . .
LFG!!!

You crushed “Epic Light Media” from making any new videos……😥😥😆
just curious, did yo use Filmbox to grade this?? love the channel.
Yeah filmbox and some dctl plugins
What is the Title of the Feature Film that you shot last year?

So perfect
It’s exactly the privacy film u use on glass walls.
TBH, I’m tired of overpriced equipments that basically cost a fraction of its retail price
came to check out saw prices and remember why i cant afford to do any of this lol
(No Country For Old Men) Llewelyn, what’s in the satchel? 😂
What kind of sorcery is that?!!! O_o
"$3,299.99" - Ouch, that is Not cheap... but awesome result from your video.
Someone been watching The Curse lately. 😉
g'damn it... my GAS is outta control right now!

3200$ woo doggy. I hate watching gear videos of expensive luxury set items because of the feeling afterward. Great video tho!
