The computer music logo is literally covering up the most important parts of all the operators for the drum design!!!
I guess they want ppl to pay for a good version (cause they sell it in the description..)
#MoneyMoneyMoneyMustBeFunny
Sorry I lost myself >
"That snare doesn't sound too bad"
literally sounds like a live recorded snare in 5 minutes of work. You fucken wot.
I've watched this several times as there is so much valuable information. He is my favourite producer and his sound is incredible
he sure is skilled at sound design. Respect Metrik
I'm gonna be honest, I didn't expect Metrik to be this well versed and noisia-ish about sound design. I don't really like his tracks for the most part but this made me appreciate him and his music a gooood bit more! Thanks CMM
you can hear he's making a pretty detailed and thought out dnb, and with distinct sound, only difference is it's mainstream mainly while noisia is more about sounding unorthodox
Having seen him play between 6 & 10 DJ sets and listening to him for almost ten years it's clear he's passionate and experienced about this music. Definitely an extremely skilled producer/DJ in the scene
Please please change the opacity of the Computer Music logo
Agree with that but also would actually be great if artists zoomed up the Ableton's interface to at least 120% when recording the screencasts; it's hard to see stuff even in 1080p, and I'm using a 27" monitor, can't imagine how it would be if I were to use a laptop to watch the tutorial...
proper snare design tutorial! well played!... and kicks!
Hehehehehehehe I was thinking the same.... What a waste of time.... (our time and their money!) lol
This is why it’s so important to pitch match your drums if you’re doing it based on samples alone.
All the stuff he goes into about harmonics is exactly what you’re doing when you pitch match your samples and cutaway some frequencies in the EQs.
Excellent tutorial well done CM
I'm going to resist the "please please tell me what that rackmount analyzer is"....but I will see dam that's so sweet the way it's mounted and displays just looks awesome. Def never seen that before in a home rig. Big ups for the loads of great technical tips. I had to rewind many times and take note!!
Amazing process of produce ,thank you
You are one of my favorite producers. Thank you for this!!!!!!!!!
wow. Inspiring stuff! Love this track
Video with very high-quality content. Thank you very much. Very interesting are the details of the Studio work!
Big ups for the excellent explanation of your processes! I don’t make dnb, but so many of these great techniques will translate across genres. Keep doing what you’re doing man!
Love it! Kick and snare edits is interesting on how you did it and gave me ideas to use your methods.
Thank you for explaining phase cancellation better than anyone I've ever seen. I appreciate the simplicity of your delivery and actually seeing it be done. Now I know what to look out for in my own mixes for the first time in my 16 years of producing 🤦🏻♂️🙂
Excellent video, super helpful and shout out to computer music for posting this content for free. Big thanks.
Great tutorial It reminded me of the sub focus tuts from a few years back
This man is on such a different level!
Ive been producing UK Hardcore since 1993 and haveing a go at some drum and bass these days, this tutorial has giving me a massive head start. Thank you so much loving Hackers by the way, thats the track thats given me real inspiration ;)
I have a few of your tunes. it was me that remixed 'Techno Round the World' with Fracus. I am also now doing D&B. Hope all is well with you!
Omgggg this is where i waited for all my life the master of snaresssssssss
Your the new king of deep wide and well mixed dance music my man, I'm always astounded at how your music sounds. I'm desperate to get out of the studio and into the gym at the moment and I'm taking you with me for motivation. :)
Thats exactly what I did yesterday. Produced all day, then listened to ex machina while on a bike ride. All kinds of energy from this music.
Metrik is a giant of DNB if you ask me.
One of Top 5 bass lines in Earth's evolution
"so I wrote this riff with my guitar hero controller"
The best tip ever! lol ha ha... I just got my NI Maschine Mikro. New toy to play with lol. His toy is the guitar hero. Why? Cause Metrik can. The tech is out there
Such a banger!
amazing video ! didn't know about the lfo tool latency issue.... thanks !
when he whipped out the midi guitar i knew I was in for a treat 😍
Great video, followed up by informative and clean production techniques. Learnt a lot from a short window into the production of Metrik. Very good at explaining things too!!
Theres only one issue with the video though. The Computer Music logo is in the way of revealing Ableton instruments settings / macros and kinda missing out on things like parameter values that aren't mentioned.
that midi guitar is sick
legends say he's still tutting to this day
He just changed the game for me with showing off the midi guitar. Thx Man!!! Jam Origin has software where you can convert your real electric guitar into a midi controller to control synths inside your daw..... fucking bad ass.
\I like making my drums tuned a few notes/a fifth lower than the key of the project, then when I pitch it up so it's in key it sounds so much tighter.
VPS metrum is also a great tool to form the transient of a snare drum.
Oof!! Didnt see that coming but I love it!
awesome video
what a MASTER !
great!👍
Great tutorial :)
Please get Dimension!
@@hearmenow909 definitely not now a days, may have when he was still on Cyantific's label
Hi, Mertik, Great work and video! Can you tell us what hardware analyser is behind left NI Komplete keyboard (under monitor), or if it's easy for you, where can we find your studio gear specs :) ? Thank You!
O_o bassline makes me want to rip and tear!
Thanks a lot CMM! Btw may i ask why is it important to not phase cancel the snare's tail with the attack or what he did there?
This guy is a genius
Hey Metrik, where can I get one of those funky midi guitars?
Take a drink every time he says "um"! 😆
How do I see what the parameters behind the Computer music logo that hides part of a synth?
Anyone got any idea on what the bit of hardware that shows the waves to the left of the UAD apollo is?
thanks
Can anyone say what exactly function he is using on 32:41 to extract audio from midi? He did right click on a channel (or a group?), clicked somewhere in menu on 3d column from the top and there is an audio! How's that?
What is the oscilloscope screen we can see on the desktop please ? I love it !!!
What is the rack gear on the left under the monitor. I saw the waveform scroll across it
anyone know the name of the midi guitar controller?
Anyone knows where i can find the analogue oscilloscope he has under his monitor? are those expensive?
I rate hackers so much, and just this week I'm starting to self teach myself production, literally couldn't have asked for a more suited video for me! Sick
this level of production isnt suitable for someone who's been learning for a week.
@@wonderchild3605 gotta start somewhere, learning form the best might be a steep learning curved but doesn't warrant your gatekeeping. With time and patience anything can be achieved.
Thats one bad dude right there.
genius level
what kind of guitar controller is that?
Metrik👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Is there a part 2?
Anyone know what drum samples pack used in the intro? Been looking for that kick n snare for long, cant find any
pretty interesting how he works with the MIDI guitar cuz it's his main instrument... i'm the same, so I'll often jam on guitar to come up with ideas, then transcribe them. I'll often do the same with bass and drums, but guitar is my main! maybe when I can afford a MIDI one, it'd be a solid investment :)
Hmm, delaybleton. Does cubase have that PDC issue? I normally sidechain with a compressor, but would like to try with lfo tool in cubase
Was wondering about the same thing, i experience some clicking sometimes with both LFO-tool and Kickstart. Did you find any info on that? Cheers
anyone know what that oscilloscope thing is in his rack under the computer monitor?
I wanna know what Spectogram hardware that is on his table. Looks dope af
It's DMG Audio Trackmeter. He also has a studio walkthrough video where he talks specifically about his Analyzer set up here: th-cam.com/video/URE_jiFFde4/w-d-xo.html
Where is part 2?
12:55 anyone know if there’s a feature like that for LFO-tool latency in Cubase? Cheers
In 'Setup Window Layout' there is an option to select 'Channel Latencies' if that helps at all?
anyone else have issues remaking the snares from scratch in operator? Can't seem to get it right and the computer music logo is in the way.
Looks like I missed the boat on the physical magazine (with DVD) and the digital version doesn't include the masterclass.
Is there any way I can get part 2?
Well, I found somewhere on EBay I could find the digital magazine, only to find that part 2 of the video is a hidden link on TH-cam. So the digital edition would have done, probably.
Can anyone tell me what the guitar controller he's using is called? I can't see if it has strings or anything but it looks interesting !!
Please have Culture Shock go into his song Renaissance!
Does anyone know what is that external oscilloscope like analyzer below screen? This is pure gold!
Can be confusing when someone mentions adjusting a specific harmonic i.e. Metrik mentions the first harmonic is after the fundamental.. but quick google search comes up with ... "The lowest frequency produced by any particular instrument is known as the fundamental frequency. The fundamental frequency is also called the first harmonic of the instrument.".. So when he mentions the first harmonic, it's actually the second.
Anyone know what software he is using ???
where is the part 2 of this?
i watching
this now
Trying to purchase part 2 any help?
Can someone tell me what piece of gear are he using on the below left side of the desk that display the spectrum and waveform?? i never saw that device.. Thanks! th-cam.com/video/o7EeihUfNTY/w-d-xo.html
I've always wondered how dnb producers went about sidechaining for the second kick
The cover makes it looks like his eyes are only pupils. "HOw tO SeLL YoUR sOuL To saTAn WiTH meTriK"
5:46 🔥
What is the midi guitar he used? And what is the analyzer in the left rack slots of the desk?
Is someone that actually got the second part of the tutorial? Because I wasnt' able to find it and get it.
Doesn't he 'sidechain' everything to the kick? I mean, he was talking about phase cancellations on the Sub when I'm pretty sure it's sidechained/ducked anyways..
In dnb the sub isn't generally sidechained...
It's the bed where everything lies.
this guy should be a teacher,,, hes fucking brill at explaining his logic anf thought process... and hes seems a expert ar Ableton
What do you mean.?
The computer music logo blocks all the action! 😆
If you uploaded both parts with ads then you would make a lot of money. I also have a subscription to the magazine but I don't think I can access old magazines.
fuck yes
fyi there is no part 2
Dealing with latency due to lack of delay compensation in Ableton is a nightmare. Although Ableton does compensate, it does so up to a point and after that you have to figure out what plugins are generating latency and then try to manually compensate like he did in the video. It's even more complicated when you have multiple channels routed to a bus, and the bus has a midi-synced effect like LFO Tool. I wish Ableton implemented Pro Tool's way of reporting how much compensation is being applied and when does it exceed the maximum and by how much.
Agreed. In Reaper I can seemingly add as many latent plugins as I want before LFOTool without it ever crapping out. In Ableton I just use the compressor sidechain to avoid the headaches.
@@ninecrowns7092 Bitwig too, no delay compensation problems at all, not with midi from another track, not with latency within a track. FL Studio is worse than Ableton when it comes to delay compensation, though.
@@tommertens7431 Yeah, Bitwig does it really well. It's just weird how Ableton can't get it right when most of the music made with it is loop based where solid timing is key.
FUCK YES!
I've been producing electronic music professionally for over 25 years and this is by far one of the best tutorials I've seen on the production process and sound design that I've seen on TH-cam. Well done Metrik!
