we were out on a field trip with some other university students about five or so years ago and while we were walking on the trail I wanted to munch something I did not bring any snacks for that trail so I pulled off a bunch of these. The face the others made when they saw me chew on one after another. Almost no-one dared to join me, only a girl from the geologist group, we had fun, now she is my wife. So I can say that I won it all for a few little yellow flowers.
@@outdoorvideoswithbrad Beautiful scenery this time of year. It’s not as elevated as the Rockies, but the plants and wildlife are always so exciting in spring! Good lookin’ out, Brother Brad!
I was recently teaching my kids that dandelions were edible and showed them by eating one. I am now showered with dandelion every time we go outside to play and told to " eat up daddy!" I have yet to get them to try one yet though.
When I was little, my grandma used to fix me fried dandelion blossoms. She soaked them in salt water for about and hour then rolled them in egg and flour.
@@aj3910 I remember the trailer park my grandparents lived in had a huge grassy field that would be solid yellow with dandelions. Funny, I’ve let a little section in both corners of my backyard grow wild and seeded some hummingbird mix to try to give them a reason to hang around my backyard. Mostly right now it’s clover and my 12-year-old will sit there and graze on the clover and dandelion like he’s a dang cow. There’s even some mock strawberry growing but that’s a waste of time.
Dandelion flowerheads make great tea too, I've had trouble keeping the sap out of the tea though, so if you just boil the flowerheads and strain them out for later use, you'll get some of the latex containing sap in said tea, not great if you're allergic.
The leaves and blossom make a good salad if made properly, get in early morning before the blossoms open and wash ,boil until tender, add your dressing of vinegar, oil, water, fried bacon and salt and pepper to taste, there you have a field salad
Everyone wants to eradicate them, yet their nutrition value is outstanding, leaves, root and flower, a totally misunderstood plant.
