Hilo International Airport needs a major makeover. I can see why a lot of the major Airlines choose not to fly here. The terminal is outdated, bathrooms are filthy and there’s lack of amenities. It has potential...just need to modernize for it to become more profitable.
It's not only the airport, hotels here have a history of not being successful which contributes to our lack of tourism unlike Kona side. But can't you see? Hilo is making progress. Since the naniloa was renovated more people are coming. Southwest now flies to Hilo. Banyan drive is planning on being revitalized. And the Hilo airport bathrooms are being renovated. Be greatful we have an airport . And it's not that bad in my opinion.

Nice video... typical Hilo to Honolulu flight except for the landing on 4R which is a longer taxi to the terminal vs. landing on the usual 8L.
