Thank you for your video of the Sheaffer Pen Museum it brought back memories - between April 1977 to December 1983 was head of Industrial Styling Design Department of the Research And Development Unit.
Several of the Writing Instruments you showed in the video from that time period I designed the Targa, and many others. That prototype Targa Slim you picked up is all my design you may have picked up one of the prototypes I touched during development.
Have wonderful pictures of prototypes that are more exciting than the Sheaffer products that came to market...
Will tell you a true story about December 1981 Leslie “Ned” Bishop President really screwed up - Sheaffer at that time it was part of Textron could have been a multi-billion dollar company today and would have never been sold departing Fort Madison had he followed my plan.
Sitting at a high level meeting along with the Chairman of the Board.
Had purchase my first Texas Instrument Computer writing algorithms at home on my own time to predict within 1% margin of error the number of cycles it would take before our parts failed…I was successful in my predictions
My turn came to present ideas for new products and market channels for the coming year. I had researched the computer industry and assessed our production capabilities, with our precision metal working skills and abilities knew we could produce millions of computer parts and hard drive components per year. At the same time the computer digitalization of drafting with a stylist was starting.
Had been testing surfaces and points for making the writing instruments writing on glass feel like paper…no one has yet to be successful with that goal. Watching Star Trek from the mid 1960’s Captain Kirk signed his name to the Enterprise log - what would be today is known as an iPad invented 2010 (1981 29 years after my prediction and project plan) and a Lenovo - Tab P12 Pro.
We can contact computer component manufacturers for distribution and sales…we have our product channel into the existing office equipment market - if we can get this electronic writing pad to function the technology is here now.
Leslie “Ned” Bishop President said to me "that is just stupid Science Fiction nonsense it is never going to happen…you are wasting your time…what else do have in next years project plan.
Before could continuing my presentation - suddenly, two visionary marketing managers said “I think he is on to something - we will work with with R&D to do more market research, Ned told them to get real…was not going to waste Sheaffer’s time, money, personnel and resources on that foolish Science Fiction Crap. I was sitting directly across from Ned from just 40 inches away looking him directly the eyes saying. “Mr Bishop I am an engineer and from experience and observation of history what ever concept or inventions human can create in their minds will become a reality like this Sheaffer Fountain Pen…or Sheaffer Pen that was used to sign papers that created the atomic bomb”. He did not get my comment - he was clueless.

Thanks for an awesome and informative video. Love Sheaffer Snorkel and Legacy fountain pens. I have been collecting them for almost 30 years. Love the hobby.

Love fountain pens particularly the iconic Sheaffer design....once I saw my headmaster of secondary school writing in Sheaffer back in 1999 in violet ink ...from that day I had planned to acquire the pen when money permit so.
    Many thanks.

I have three Sheaffers. Two Sentinels and one chrome ballpoint Targa. They're made in China now, but still great quality. The Sentinels still have brass threads in the caps. Great material and info, btw.

I really like the Targas myself. But the old flat tops and balance models have to be my favorite. Thanks for watching.

Nice; just a bit too fast. They need an archivist to properly store that stuff as well as a temperature controlled environment. Or an environment without water leakage…in the basement and wear gloves when touching papers and items. Nice to see all that, so thank you!

This place is so cool to vist but it makes me quite sad that all the know-how and jobs lost when this giant manufacturing facility closed down. There is still a market for quality writing instruments and Sheaffer should be the one company still around to supply this market. Sheaffer was always my favorite pen company for the shere amount of innovation happening here.

Hahaha! For those who don't know, Janesville, Wisconsin is where the Parker Pen Company started its life by George S. Parker in the late 1800s.
